Hi Guys,

My device has locked up again this morning. Totally and fully, for the second time in as many weeks. I've had it for over a year now and it has been working fine for the most part.

Anyway, today for a second time the device froze on me. I used the power button to switch it off. Now, the power button does nothing. The soft reset button does nothing too. I can't even hard reset by holding the power button and pressing the soft reset button at the same time. Now the screen if off and the device is completely unresponsive - it is fully charged and it worked first thing after i woke up this morning., after which time I connected to GPRS, checked my email and then started Skype for Pocket PC. That was when it froze and stayed frozen.

My ROM version is 1.72, upgraded from 1.58 ( I think ) about 5 months ago (and I regret doing this, as my battery life dropped from 5 hours to 3 hours per day).

Can anyone suggest how to revive the device other than pulling the batter out and leaving it out for a while?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Paul

Hello there,

Well, I've got an i-mate as well, and it was 1.5x too, then got it upgraded to 1.72, but never noticed this battery life issue (i felt it was already very short as I used to have 4 days on 6310i) :D.
Anyway, I suggest you try to get it into the bootloader mode (by pressing the action button, while performing a hard reset). This will get you into that black screen where it is written (serial or usb, v.1.0x). After that, you can try to perform a normal hard reset, without pressing the action button this time.

note that you will loose the data on it as you are performing a hard reset.

Hope it works, good luck.

Thanks for your reply.

Just one question for you - which button is the action button?

You see, I have tried pressing the power button together with every other button (individually) and pressing in the reset switch with the stylus, without any response whatsoever.

Finally, I did what worked the last time - I removed the main battery and left it out for a few minutes. After re-inserting the battery the iMate came back to life and now all the buttons work again as they should. I restored my self extracting sprite backup and I'm back normal.

So, which button combination should have unconditionally reset the device?

Thanks,

Paul

The action button is the centre of the 4 way rocker/navigation key.
