External microphone

Is it possible to use an external microphone together with the handsfree speaker?

I have tried the handsfree option.
the sound is ok, but the mic cannot cope with a distance of more than 20cm.

therefor in my car I want to connect an external (better) microphone and use the handsfree option for the speaker.

Any ideas?

I have managed to use both xda 1 and xda 2 without external mic, I just raise my voice and the listener is able to hear me ok, 20cm dont seem right.

I have the same experice with the speakerphone. People cannot understand me unless I move the thing right to my mouth like a walkie-talkie. This would be very inconvenient if you need your hands for other things, e.g. while driving!!
