Hi all it's summer time in my country and I was thinking about taking my JAM to the beach (as it is now my primary mobile)... Was looking at some solutions for making the JAM atleast splash and dust/sand proof. Now don't get me wrong I ain't going swimming or jet skiing with my JAM just want some protection... just in case the boat ride to the beach is a bit 'SPALSHY'.
I came about 2 products one is http://aquapac.net/ the other is http://www.otterbox.com/ has anybody have any experience with these to cases? the otter box appears to be overkill though... Any comments?
My last resort is to place my JAM in a zip-loc bag and put it in between towels inside a bag (not very savvy)...

Hi bnycastro,
the Otterbox is a very good solution for really rough surroundings, but it is also a very "bulky" solution. The aquapacs surely are enough protection in your case as well they are slightly cheaper.
I recently bought something which is about the same as the aquapac but is cheaper: Take a look at this: http://www.haid-services.de/pd924227741.htm?defaultVariants={EOL}&categoryId=108

I can recommend the AquaPac case - I ride a motorbike in all weathers and so need a water-proof case for emergency phone use - the Aquapac is not too bulky (it fits in a bike jacket outer pocket with no problems) and you can talk through the bag very easily. The Aquapac even comes with a small holder for a stylus so you get complete use of the phone (well - maybe not the keyboard!) when it's still completely sealed.
:)
If Proporta ever get the magnesium casing I ordered to me then I'll have both ruggedness AND weather protection because the M2K fits into the Aquapac with room to spare. :)

Thanks for your responses
@BGK can you tell me the brand of the case you linked to? I can't read German. TIA
@Riceburner: so I'm guessing you got the PDA version of aquapac. I was thinking of either the PRO Sport (because it comes with more extras) or Wire Thru model (for headset use).

Just realised that - didn't think about it before, sorry...
The bag is called "beachbag" (I guess the only english word on that page :) ) and this german webshop I mentioned was the only one, where I could find this bag (also searched a while before I found it).
It came in a simple plastic bag without any brand name on it (even there's no brand directly on the beachbag itself), so I guess, the only chance to get the brand or an alternative distributor is to get in contact with this shop. Their email address is mailto:info@haids.de. They should be able to read english mails, but expect longer response times as they seem to be very busy shop keepers...
Another thing to mention: The bag fits my iPaq perfectly, so it's slightly to big for the JAM/MDA. Nevertheless I guess it's the best protection against water and dust at an affordable price.

Yeah - it's the PDA version (I would have put up a picture from my M2K - but Pocket IE doesn't work with this forums uploading system - I think it's because PIE doesn't allow a "2nd window")
Instead of using the headset I have a BT headset (the small, cheap i.tech one) so wires aren't an issue. :)

bny, in case you haven't hit our beautiful beaches just yet, I believe that that trusty zip loc sandwich bag will serve you well. The amount you'll spend on a pack that you'll rarely use + shipping, may be enough to get you a good upgrade on other mini accessories, or a scuba and jetski rental. I tried it myself during a small trip to boracay a month ago...superb!
However, if you do live near the beach and can't get enough of the surf, might as well invest on an aquapac or an otter. Otters, however, do get those suspicious looks in airports. The kind that says "Did that guy just chelked in with a detonator?"

Anyway I will also bring the a 'zip-lock' bag but what I got and might try out is the promotional wet pack from West Cigarettes (2 packs West Lights + Lighter + the wet pack) for around PhP 100.00 I even got some dessicant hehe to suck out extra moisture that might build up. Will report if this is a viable solution. Can't wait to hit the beach!!! 1 week to go!
