ATP Secure Digital Card 2GB 60X Super High Speed

Haven't managed to source a 2GB SanDisk Ultra II SD card as my suppliers are being delayed but as soon as I get one I will post and
let you know the outcome.

Tested the ATP with the follow devices.

XDA, XDAIIi, XDA mini, XDAIIs
Super Imate Jam
Imate PDA2K

Installed 5 Programs and games
Copied 1gb Of Music mp3 to the SD card through a card reader and left Pocket music playing on shuffle for 20 minutes.
Tested by copying a 13mb file to the device through USB - To device.
Playing it from the SD Card. No problems at all for the above devices.

By the way the file was Star Wars Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith Trailer :-)
Use Beta Player to play the file.

I have question:

Which one better in term of file/quality, .avi or .wmf or .mpg?

Thanks.

I must say as the ATP is Great this was the only option for me as my friend had in stock I took bought it to test and must say I am very happy with it. I just watched Constantine of the SD card and now I can use My jam as an all in one device.

Phone
Pda
Games
Movies - 3 Movies currently on there
Music - Have over 1gb of music on
Camera - Don't use it in doors as it is crap.

I tend to have a lot more .avi
Quality is great, I have seen some good mpeg and Windows Media files too.
As I encoded my own movies from DVD - av The source file is good to start of with which helps.

i only have a 1GB SD card (PQI Hi Speed 40x) and works great as well. I always sync my Jam with my Media Center PC to store recorded TV shows. i might get one of those 2gigs if my 1gb is not enough

I've got a 2GB Sandisk card and it works like a charm. (it's the "regular" SD card, not the Ultra II or Extreme III).

I'm using an Orange M500;
ROM version = 1.06.00 WWE
Radio version = 1.05.10
Protocol version = 1337.39

Hello,

I want to contribute my findings on 2 GB SD cards on the HTC Magican. Actually I am using an German T-Mobile MDA compact. ROM is 1.12.01 bigstorage (German T-Mobile ROM).

Until recently I used different SD cards form 256 MB up to 1 GB and never had any problems with them. Then I wanted to buy a 2 GB SD card. I knew there where issues with 2 GB cards on the Magican. All cards where tested on my MDA compact, older card-readers an a build-in cardreader on my notebook. These are the cards I tried:

2 GB Magu 120x
On inserting this card into the magican the format-message was prompted. Formating took just a second but the card was not recognized by the magican. The older cardreaders did not recognize this card or they did recognize and format it with a capacity of 1 GB only. My notebook also formated it as a 1 GB card only. But also after formating this card with 1 GB it was not recognized by my MDA compact. This card was also of a bad quality. It seemed to be thicker than a usual card so I had problems getting it out of my MDA compact.

2 GB Extrememory 133x
Same as above except for the trouble getting the card out of my MDA compact.

2 GB A-Data 150x
Same as above. But I was able to test this card on a second German T-Mobile MDA compact also. Although it seemed to be exactly the same model as my MDA, on this MDA compact this card was recognized. The ROM was a 1.06 German ROM. But I do not think this made the difference. I guess it is a hardware-releated issue. Maybe there are differences between the production-charges.

2 GB Sandisk Ultra II 133x
Finally I got this card and this one works. There was no format-message on inserting this card. It was just recognized as a 2 GB card. This one also works without problems on my built-in cardreader in my notebook. The older cardreaders have still problems with this card. So I bought a new one and this one just works and writes and reads very fast on this card. After 2 weeks of intense use of this card I have still no problems with it.

My conclusion is that some models of the Magican seem to be more picky with 2 GB cards than others. So if you have trouble with one 2 GB card then probably very few cards will work. The cards from Sandisk will probably work.

My guess that the issues are hardware releated are just a guess because there was no time for extensive testing with both MDAs. But given the fact that the firmware on my MDA was newer I can not imagine that it is a firmware issue.

I hope this info is usefull.

Hello,

I just want to add that I found a post in a German magican forum stating that after an firmware-update from 1.06 to 1.12 the SD Card of this user was no longer recognized. So there is a possibility that firmware 1.06 is better regarding compatibility with SD Cards than firmware 1.12. So someone having trouble with a 2 GB SD Card might check this.

I found these cards do not work on the latest Magician (1.12 qtec) rom;

Moby memory own branded 2gb
A - Data 2gb

The following works perfectly (as already stated above)(third time lucky);

Sandisk Ultra II 2.0 GB

The error I encountered with the first two is that the Magician always offers to format the card and is unable to see it regardless of if it is formatted or not.

For some reason, the PQI 2GB didn't work for me. Could it be that the older rom version could be the problem? I Haven't updated my rom in ages...

the sandisk ultra II is aprox. 60x in writting and 66x in reading (actually 68x)
do the math
one x is 150 kb/sec
and the ultra II writes with about 9 mb/sec
and reads with about 10 mb/sec

It looks like the mini sd but is it the mini sd?

if it is, then i think i'm buying it! the product discription seems vague in the dimensions 5.0 x 1.1 x 7.0in ... anyone can confirm if this is the mini sd? weird dimensions though... perhaps its measuring the whole thing including the box

It's a standard SD card- I don't think SanDisk have released a 2GB miniSD yet. Plus the price is too cheap for it to be a miniSD.

As for those dimensions, well 5 and 7 inches--- do you know big that is?? It's probably talking about the size of the packaging :P

Weird. This image of the "square" SD has been there for over a month. Now it has been replaced with a correct now. Interesting. Anyway, thanks for the replies. :-)

Sandisk is probably the brand that 100% of the time their 2Gb cards work on the Magician. Other brands will work for some but not for others. I've tried Adata 150X and Ridata 150X 2Gb cards but neither worked.

Am trying out the Transcend 4Gb hopefully this week depends on when my package gets here.

Hello.

What is the speed (read/write) of the magician SD card reader ?

Where to find these specs ?

This way, we could know which SD card speed suits the magician the best.

Every Magician will post different figures even if using the same brand and size. One thing that is true is that Magician's speed of reading the SD cards is slow. There is little or no advantage using high-speed cards over the normal speed ones. So you can save yourself some money and buy the normal speed ones..Sandisk is peobably the most compatible SD card for the Magician

Hi there guys - I'm sorry if this is re-hashing things that have already been said, but I just bought a 2gb Sandisk ('regular') SD from www.e-xcessories.com , and upon insertion in my UK MDA Compact (T-Mobile), I get the "Do you want to try to format this card to make it readable, etc" message. I tap 'yes', and get the format succesful box, but am then unable to access the card. From reading through previous posts, I thought you might be able to suggest some way of making the card useable. If it's of any use, my Compact is Rom ver. 1.12.00 WWE, dated 05/28/05.

Thanks for your patience!

GurneyHalleck

Okay... so there was a piece of fluff stuck in the SD slot... ;) Anyway... The Compact will still only recognise the card as a 128mb, so could anyone tell me if this is normal, or do I still have problems? Cheers.

Hi there,

I have noticed that the Ultra II 2GB Sandisk appears to work out of the box fine with my O2 mini. But I have also noticed that it appears to be a bit unstable. I will find either files mysteriously dissapearing, or sometimes the entire card reads as empty, despite me knowing it was full of stuff a few minutes ago. The longest I have gone without loosing data is 4 weeks.

Could it be the card itself or the O2 ?
I have send the card back to the shop and they are happy to swap it, but they are now recommending that I go for 2 1Gb cards instead.

regards

I have 2 magicans. One accepts the card, the other doesn't and just wants to format it. (Formatting doesn't work either)
