Hi,

Great forum!

I have read a lot about installing Firmware and Ext. ROM Apps, but there is one question remaining:

I have the CAB for Caller ID v1.20. On my Qtek 9090 I still have v1.17, which I would like to upgrade.

I don't want to modify the original firmware/ext. ROM for warranty issues and because otherwise everything is working fine.

What I want to know is: if I delete the old files belonging to Caller ID v1.17 (as explained in another topic) and then run the CAB from the PDA, will I change the ext. ROM in any way, or will I get the old Caller ID v1.17 back after a hard reset?

Have I understood it correctly, that the apps are installed FROM this ext. ROM to the flash memory? They don't RUN from the ext. ROM, right?

Thanks,
vma

you are correct if you follow the topic to change the caller id it works fine i have done it, as i didnt want to do a hard reset had things pretty much set up as i want them .i have however added it to the extended rom if in future i need to hard reset as if you do it will revert back to the older version of caller id and you will need to do the same again.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

My main hobby is satellite TV and flashing different firmware onto receivers is something I am totally familiar with.

However, this phone was really expensive compared to a satellite receiver, plus I need it for work.

Therefor I wanted to be absolutly sure, that I did not change the ext. ROM by updating Caller ID, since I want to be able to rever to the old release, if needed.

Thanks,
vma
