For those of you who have grounded pin 19 to get sound out via bottom connector, have you seen this site which sells proper car kits for the blueangel
http://www.thb.de/index.html?lang=en
Note the bit at the bottom of the MDAIII car kit about wavedev.dll, could this be the solution to all sound out via bottom connector?
could someone who has already got pin 19 wired up test this before i bastadise my cradle with wiring of XDA II

Hi,
I have just finished my work.
I have grounded pin 19 via 10K resistor and then installed wavedev.dll from the site http://www.thb.de
Now it works well. Internal mic and audio are switched to pins 1 (mic) and 3,4 (audio). I have connected the MDA III via bottom connector to my motorcycle intercom and now I can hear all instructions of my navigate software as well I can telefone with my helmet on.
I had tried it before without THBs wavedev.dll and it was only possible to use the telefone function. MP3s and navigate instructions couldn't been heard.

Hi,
yes, the pin layout seems to be the same as XDAII, MDAII (himalaya).

I groudeed it via 10 resitor to pins 16,17,18.
But without the wavedev.dll from http://www.thb-service.de/download/MDAIII/Wavedev.dll there is no chance to get audio output from mediaplayer ond so on.

I have come across a thread which described a registry hack to output tomtom GPS Sounds etc to a bluetooth headset, but i cannot find it again, but this thread in another forum backs my thinking up http://www.mtekk.com.au/forums/viewtopic.php?p=24624 you should root around the google, it is only on one of three sites, this one, MoDaCo or Mtekk but i know its possible at least

I have a PPC6600 (PDA2k, XDAIIs, etc.) and I have a couple questions...
When you unhook the bottom connector from your phone, does the audio go back to the internal speaker and microphone?
Also, when the bottom connector is plugged in, what takes precedence, your bluetooth headset or the bottom connector's audio?
Last, if I paid you could you make me a cable that would have the connector that would feed to :
3.5mm Microphone Plug
3.5mm Stereo Audio Plug
Radio Mute Plug (pin 12 supposedly?)
Power?
My vehicle's radio supports RCA feeds and Radio Mutes, and I would LOVE to get this hooked up...
Lastly, is it possible to pipe out video through the connector? (Just thinking about the XDAII backpack...)
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi rleestma,
>When you unhook the bottom connector from your phone, does the audio go back to the internal speaker and microphone? <
Yes internal speeker and mic are turned on when the connector is unhooked.
>Also, when the bottom connector is plugged in, what takes precedence, your bluetooth headset or the bottom connector's audio? <
Bluetooth headset is preferred, the external speeker works but microfone is only used from bluetooth headset.
>Last, if I paid you could you make me a cable that would have the connector that would feed to :
3.5mm Microphone Plug
3.5mm Stereo Audio Plug
Radio Mute Plug (pin 12 supposedly?)
Power? <
The answer is no. I'm glad, that my connector works. But until this I had disturbed 3 connectors because of my very small experiences in soldering.
I think that every TV or radio store could help you when you tell them the pin layout and how to groud the pin 19.
>Lastly, is it possible to pipe out video through the connector? (Just thinking about the XDA II backpack...)<
I don't have any idea how video can be piped out through the connector.

Thanks for the info!
Perhaps a few more questions then?
Where did you find these parts?
1. XDAIII connector
2. Wire to solder in connector
Secondly, do you have some type of diagram layout and parts list for resistors, power, etc.?
I also have very little experience doing this type of thing, but this is EXACTLY what I need for my little project...
Thank you for your help in advance!

Hey there...
when grounding the Car_ON (pin 19) through a 10k resistor, which pin did you ground it to? Was it 15, 16, or 17? The reason I ask is that it seems that incoming power ground needs to be on 15, 17, and 18, so does that mean that the CAR_ON needs to be sent to pin 16?
See what I mean here...

Hi,
I bought this connector http://www.haid-services.de/pi-680482093.htm?categoryId=49 .
The Cable and the resistor I got in a tv shop.
One pole of the resitor you have to solder to pin 19 and the other pole must be soldered to pin 16, 17 and 18.
Don't use pin 15 for ground from the car charger. It's only used for USB cable.

Yes, I saw that you soldered pin 19 to pins 16, 17, and 18, but the problem is that the positive lead ties into 19, 21, and 22...
So, with that being said, i have two questions... Did you tie power into your setup? If so, then...
1. Do I tie in the positive lead from the car charger into pin 19 at all because it's going to be grounded out?
2. Do I tie in the negative lead from the car charger into all the pins, or only the ones that aren't being tied back into 19?
If you have an example that you used the worked that would be STUPENDOUS... I feel like I just need to have this quesiton answered and I'll be good to go...

Can I use this connector, or do I need to use the other one from you?

Again, if you used power, can you let me know what pins you tied into the positive and negative? maybe a diagram?

Hi rleestma,
have a look at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/Connectors
There you can see that pins 20,21,22 are power+ and pins 16,17,18 are ground. Now connect now solder a 10k resitor between pin 19 and (16,17,18) and it should work.
But only if you download the wavedev.dll from www.thb.de

last question...
when you were wiring yours up, did you jump 19 right at the connector or did you run everything back to the opposite end of the cable and then run the 10k resistor?
Also, did you tie in the car charger's negative and all the negative pins together at the other end of the cable, or did you run one negative wire to the connector and then split it there? same for the positive...
thanks!

Hi,
the resistant fits in the connector, so there is no need to use an extra wire to connect it outside to the ground.
I connected the the pins together with solder in the connector.

Hello bombur,
Great to hear that you got your configuration working ! Would you mind postiing some pictures of your cable ?
I'm curious how you separated the microphone, audio and power. Don't you have any problem with ground loops causing interference ? I would like to connect the audio to a car-powered fm transmitter.
I just bought this connector : http://www.t-mobile.de/shop/zubehoer/detail/1,7156,10198-_3996-0--181-0,00.html
Do you think I could open the connector and just add the microphone and audio wiring and ground pin 19 ?
Thanks for your comments !!!

I have an Audivox XV6600WOC that I am using with a Parrot CK3300 in my car with Teletype GPS. All has been working well there.
I wanted to have a charging cradle as pipe audio via the bottom connector to my stereo (via FM tranmitter). So, following the outstanding and much appreciated instructions above I rewired a seideo G2100 cradle, including the addition of a switch added to the side of the cradle to switch the pin 19 10K resistor grounding on and off (in case I wanted to continue charging and play a CD for example). I haven't actually run the audio yet, but confirmed that telephone audio is turned on and of with my switch, then with the addition of the new WaveDev.dll, file that VoiceCommand and WMP sound is turned off and on.
Now the problem (there always is one, isn't there?). With the replacement of the WaveDev.dll file, my Parrot Bluetooth car kit no longer gets audio. Aaargh! I am thinking that the good folks at THB must have complaints if their car kit software upgrade messes up bluetooth headset audio (Parrot CK3300 connects via Headset Profile).
After all my work I am at wits end. Any suggestions would be truly appreciated!
Thanks!

Does your bluetooth headset still work or did that break as well?
Also, did you replace your wavedev.dll by working through your workstation? I left myne at work so I'm trying to do it right on the pocket pc, which is why I think I'm failling...
Keep me updated on the bluetooth thing, 'cause I can't afford to lose my bluetooth headset...
Thanks!

I actually don't use a bluetooth headset, so I can;t report on that. I do know that the Parrot CK3300 connects to my phone using the headset profile rather than the handsfree profile, so I presume that a headset would fail as well. But unless you try ...
It's easy enough to switch back anyways. Make sure you rename you old file to WaveDev.dll.old (or similar), then if it fails you can just rename the new file WaveDev.dll.mod and rename the .old file back to regular WaveDev.dll and you are back in business with a soft reset.

I've just ordered up the bits to make my kit. If I lose the BT headset operation then I'll not be happy.
I just want to get the audio out of the connector and use the BT headset for the mike.
Is this going to be possible?
I should add that I'm using an XDA2i. The BT profile supports audio through the BT headset and I get both M3 and Tom Tom audio through my Jabra.
Maybe this will make a difference to the function of wavedev.dll.
Any ideas?
To bombur: & rleestma :
After reading your succes building car kit, I've got back to me old project of building it.
I abandoned it some time ago, as I was not able to have a 'clean' audio, always having a lot of induced noise (rf noise) and of course coupling between mic and speaker.
I am using separate mic and audio amplifiers, connected to pins 1, 3, 4, 5 using isolation 1:1 transformers and doing (trying to do) me best on shielding cables and separating circuits.
Can any of you give me adicional hints of how did you obtained a clean sound , and get ride of echo coupling??

I think you should be able to rename the problem .dll (to.old or whatever), soft reset, and then delete it. The original is in the ROM so it will return.
However, here's a cab file with wavedev.dll that was made by a guy in the Windows Media Player 10 thread in BA Upgrading forum. Just run the cab and it should update your wavedev to a "normal" version.
I have been watching this thread with great interest! I'm hopeful someone will release a cradle that is enabled in this fashion... I'll be damned if I'm going to connect the headset jack every time I get in the car :)

I have received all the parts to make this happen yesterday. I'm anxious to start building my DIY carkit. But the first thing i did is open up the connector i ordered. It's the same as the one that comes with the Qtek 9090 that can be used for charging.
The problem is: on the 'outside' i have a 22-pins connector. Based on the schematics posted in other threats i know which one is what. But on the 'inside' of the connector there are 22 pins as well. On each side 6 on top and 5 bottom. So 11 each side that makes 22  Now which one is which?!? So which pin on the 'inside' corresponds with which pin on the 'outside'?
Help!

While trying to figure out how I am going to deal with the WaveDev.dll file, I decided to check if the audio coming out of the bottom is line level or 'headphone' level, which will be requird by the FM transmitter.
Turns out to be line level, which I suspected (but very clean!). Are there any electronics gurus out there who might educate me on how to convert from line level to 'headphone' level? A suspect a transformer is involved, but I am a software guy, not a hardware guy, so I know just enough to get me into trouble.
A shopping list for the Electronics Store and a diagram would be most appreciated, but any information would be useful and greatly appreciated.

Getting very anxious here to try and jump to making a diy carkit...
Two questions though :
- Where are you splitting the audio/microphone outputs ? Directly at the connector, or at the end of the cable you solder to the connector ? If anyone could post pictures, they speak more than a 1000 words :-)
- Do you integrate charging via a car adapter into the cable ?

Somebody mentioned that the BlueAngel had a pin for radio mute output as well. I assume that this only works during phone calls? I want to use my xdaiis for Navigation as well as a Phone. I guess I'm going to have to build a noise detector circuit to drive a stereo mute for the Navigation audio.
Everybody needs to remember that echo cancelation should be required for a car kit to stop feedback. I see the person who started this forum is essentually using a head set on a motoro-bike. Has anybody tried doing this in a car with their stereo and a mike?

Hi There,
I am using a bit of a bodge set up with my car stereo and it seems to work fine.
I de-soldered the earpieces from the handsfree headset that came with my Blue Angel and replaced them with standard 3.5mm headphone socket.
I now plug an FM transmitter into this to send all the audio (Satnav, MP3 and phone calls) through the car stereo whilst using the microphone on the headset. I get good stereo audio and have had no complaints from callers about echo as yet.
Hope this helps
Cheers

What FM Transmitter are you using to broadcast to your car radio. I just cut the earbuds off my original wired headset (2 earbuds) and soldered onto a 3.5mm adaptor. I already have a Belkin Tunecast II which works fine on my Dell Jukebox, but when using on the Siemens SX66 (XDAIII), my .wav and mp3's work fine thru the radio. IF I have a signal on the Tunecast, the call will ring thru the car radio, I answer with the pushbutton on the wired headset, I can be heard, but I can't hear my caller. Think the Tunecast is not capable of "voice"? Is the Soundfeeder SF250 any better. It is advertised as MP3 and Voice?

I have built the DIY handsfree kit, however i dont use a bluetooth headset so i cannot comment about it cocking up bluetooth audio. I just couldn't get clear enough audio via bluetooth anyway, so i just pick up the phone and use it.
For those using an FM transmitter i am using one also, and my findings are. the connection does give out line level sound and not headset level at reduced audio, however i resolved this by using a standard car preamp. which can limit the output.
Also those people getting inteference on the audio when the cradle has power, this is becuase you have two or three devices all powered off the same car, and this causes a ground loop. all you need is a cheap ground loop isolator available in a car audio store for around £6.00 this will solve the inteference problem.
I did need to use two isolators as i am using a pre-amp but it works ok. the only problem i cannot resolve is inteference from the mobile phone when a call comes through, but it isn't too bad.
I am working on a tutorial with picks and wiring diagrams that hopefullt can be put on the wiki, does anyone know who i send it to to get it on the wiki?

Hi,
I'm using MDAIII
I've made DIY Carkit, with help of "connectors" page and your posts.
However, the sound I get through connector (CAR_ON grounded via 10k and wavdev.dll installed) is insanely crispy (without any bass).
I've tried to use DSP application to boost bass, but still, the sound is not nice.
Anybody had a problem like this ?
Some other things I've noticed so far:
- grounding ANALOG_GND together with GND's doesn't add any noise
- GND/SENSE doesn't work as decribed on wiki's connectors
- IN_CALL (as above)
Have anyone tested those ? Maybe my blueangel is faulty ?
Please help.
However, the sound I get through connector (CAR_ON grounded via 10k and wavdev.dll installed) is insanely crispy (without any bass).
I have same issue as robal. Attached is a wiring diagram of my setup. Although sound is clean(no noise) it is all higher frequency. Like there's a low frequency cut off.
Is there an error in my wiring?
robal

Your pinout seems to be OK. I've noticed that pulling CAR_ON isn't always necessary to get all audio out through CAR_AUDIO_X. (OS version dependent).
Your audio is clear because you use FM transmitter. This is one of the methods to seperate audio ground. (second is to use isolation audio transformer).
The only problem is the low frequency cut-off. To date, there's no workaround for this. BA simply filters audio for GSM speech. It's not designed to support car kits. That's bad.
I've made a additional cable with 2,5mm jack in my car kit. It's annoying, but I connect it every time to the headphone connector.
I've made many enquiries to HTC but got no reply. Maybe the high pass filter is software controlled, so it could be turned off, but no one knows.
I even tried to boost bass by additional equalizer, but the effect was horrible (there's comletely no bass to boost, only low freq noise).
Good luck on your efforts. Post any inventions :)
Robal, Thanks for the reply.
I was working on this a few months ago then shelved it. I’ve been using the head phone plug since, but was encouraged again when I saw this thread. Guess Ill put it back on the shelf after getting a little closer to my goal.
I find it unusual that a hand held computer this well thought out, this technologically complete, would overlook an obvious application that would require relatively little additional development. It does appear that the hardware is there.
Thanks,
N2O2
