New to the forum, so please feel free to correct any false information I cite. Sorry for the long first post.
I'm in the process of buying an i-mate jam, and i've been considering a fairly far fetched use for it (not that this would prevent me from getting it if it didn't work).
The i-mate can run the Playstation emulator for PPC, as far as I know. Moreover, it can play fairly decent quality movies (640x480) or access those on a wifi network provided you use a wifi SDIO card.
What I'm trying to do is manage a way to hook up the i-mate to a TV and play playstation games and movies on the TV using the i-mate. I've found SDIO presenters (i.e. the Margi Presenter-to-Go) which replicate the PPC screen over a VGA connection. A VGA to RCA cable would then allow you to display the jam's screen on a TV. But you're limited to the onboard memory (not enough for a game or movie) and can't access files on a wifi network because the SD slot is occupied by the presenter. Bluetooth presenters (e.g. the pitch duo) aren't fast enough to display video.
SO, i'd like to know if anyone knows of a workaround to keep the SD slot empty but hook the jam up to a TV. Can the USB port be used? Does anyone know of a device that can receive a WIFI signal and send the video stream to a TV (in other words, you could use the 256+wifi card in the jam and use the wifi to connect to another device that would stream video into the TV)?
I apologize if this sounds absurd; just tryin to push the device to its limits. You have to admit that it would be badass to hook the i-mate up to a TV and play playstation games or full length movies.
