View Full Version : XDA2i Locks up fix

Has anyone experienced a regular lock up on the 02 XDA2i - if so I may have the fix.

The freeze on the xda2i happens after it has been running various programs, no one program was the root cause of the issue but when the program was ended the memory it was using should be freed up for other applications to use - but doesn't.
O2 will claim that 3rd party apps are causing this but in my opinion the cause is the 02 Active software which is installed after a hard resest where it allocates itself a memory address within the ROM.
SOLUTION:
1. Hard Reset after backing up
2. Choose Corporate User
3. Enter PIN 0506
This will install a corporate edition of Mobile 2003SE and will not include the 02 stuff.
Hope it helps - if anyone has any further bluetooth or tomtom problems I can probably help too.

ThebigWomble,
Thans for the fix on freezing XDA 2i.
This id very useful.
I have two question if you would help me.
Tomtom 3 keeps loosing its favourites and recent locations.
How I can save them manually and reinstate them whenever they are lost.
Some it say no maps installed when in fact two maps are installed and on the Storage Card.
How I can unlock and unhide the extededROm on XDA 2i
Thanks for the help.

I too have experienced the lockups on my XDA2i even with the corporate version of Mobile 2003SE installed. It seems to happen after I've used bluetooth (headset only) for a while. The only third party software I have installed at the moment is Resco Explorer.

i've removed the o2 interfaces and shit, but kept the task manager. mine regularly locks up, but usually when i go into the task manager and end the item called "programs" it the says something along the lines of "unhandled shell exception. attempting to reboot the shell." then it soft resets itself. not a major problem, just an anoyance.

yes, i've the same problem
my new xda2ii locks up very often
and during the blackout, i can receive incoming calls
during the blackout, if make a call to the xda2ii, it seems the line is free and ringing, but the pda stil remain off!!!
the only way to "get up" to the pda is reset it with the stylo
all other buttons are disabled
what can i do?
i've tried it also with installing the latest italian rom, and the problem is the same
so O2ACTIVE is not the cause of the problem, because the italian rom doesn't include that program/interface
NOW, i've tried to come back to O2ROM, without installing the O2 interface, using the trick of "corporate user"
i'll advise you about the results
any suggestion on resolving this problem?

For those experiencing lockups please take a look at my Thread, its the phone that causes the lockup, trust me I have tested it to the absolute fullness.

Ok here is how to turn off the phone, ive just done it without having a problem.
1) Start Tomtom with it communicating to the Bluetooth GPS and Phone is on.
2) Whilst tomtom is running turn on flightmode (turning off all Wireless and Phone)
3) Go back into Tomtom and it should have lost its connection to BT you will see it hasn't disabled the GPS though!
4) Turn on BT in the Bluetooth Settings in the settings menu of the XDA2i
5) XDA2i will then pop up a message saying turn off flight mode first, try to close that popup and it will take several seconds whilst it closes the popup.
6) Hey presto the delay was caused by the XDA2i trying to turn on Wirelss with out the Phone.
7) You now have just wirelss on and not the phone.
Let me know if this works for you, it has for me each time.
Cheers

It is one month since I bought. Sofar more than 20 hard resets. 100 soft resets. Why O2 is not coming out with fix.

Ya I've only had mine a week and have had to soft reset almost once a day. Just switching to transcriber mode or whatever. I've mailed O2, waiting for a response.

Me too - My XDAII ran reasonably stably, and was a useful device. The XDAIIi is going back to the shop. I've had far too many problems and I'm normally quite forgiving...
Just a sample:
Regular lock-ups
Subtle incompatibilities with software (e.g. provided GPRS monitor prevents GPRS reconnecting)
Phone never regains the signal if you try to dial when out of signal range (need a soft reset).
Rapid battery discharge - Didn't charge overnight and awoke to a completely flat XDA.
Microphone - People simply cannot hear me clearly
Camera - Fuzzy pictures because of simple software bugs make camera useless
Alarm bug - Microsoft should be ashamed - it's still there
Speed - seems far more unresponsive during normal usage especially just after wake-up, and occasionally seems to run in slow motion.
The biggies are the mic quality and the lock ups - basically it's just not fit for its intended purpose, so I beleive that I am within my consumer rights to get a full refund.

From O2 :-
"Unfortunately we do not have a date for the release of the ROM for the xda2i but it will be available from the xda web site www.my-xda.com when it is ready for release."

I really want to purchase a xdaIIi, I really don't know whether I should buy it. Other than the above problem, the most worry is whether there is sim lock and whether I can use it with any sim cards of other countries.

Just wanted to add another voice to this thread - I'm on my second 2i and the problem still persists.
It happens when TomTom isn't in memory, and I normally have BT switched off. I've got a 1GB corsair SD, and I've run on both the O2 standard install and the blank install (Hard reset followed by soft reset to prevent O2 apps from installing).
Usually the lock occurs at the beginnig or end of a phone call.
I'm trying a new SIM to see if that works...

I returned my XDAIIi as it just simple wouldn't run tomtom (it locked everytime the phone was in use), i now have an XDAIIs, tomtom runs fine on this, but i am getting about 3 lock ups a day for no apperent reason or have any real pattern. I have had it lock up when finishing a call, lock up when opening programs, closing programs, using options within programs!! Is there a fix, or should i bin it and get something diferent altogher??
I also seem to have a crap microphone, people sem to struggle to here me!!

I haven't got time to check through all the threads but thought I might let you know my experience with O2 XDA IIs.
I had all the locking up problems, couldn't log on to my home wiFi and numerous other faults. In the end I rang O2 Data Support (ring customer services first and bore them with your problem then you will get transferred at local rate rather than the scurrilous 60p per minute).
O2 DS told me to remove O2 Active (Hard Reset, Corporate, Pin=0506) and all problems are solved - thank gawd!

The IIs is renowned for having a lousy microphone, the IIi locked up before I even installed TomTom on it - it's the nightmare we all though would never happen - phones that crash all the time.
Apparently the II mini from T-mobile is great.... O2 only do it in Asia and Auz tho...

strange my phone works fantasically as a phone ,my problems only start when tomtom is started ,but with flight mode on it works a dream as well ,no soft resets yet using them like that for 1 week now
it's only if i forget to turn flight mode on and the phone rings i get a lockup with tomtom 5 running otherwise it's a great phone , they must just sort the combo out asap
