I noticed one day that Nintendo's new device, the Nintendo DS, comes with a special lanyard for use with the touch screen. There is a loop on the end of the lanyard that has a plastic little nub attached that can be used as a stylus. You put the loop around your thumb and use your thumb as a stylus sans fingerprints. I have to imagine its far more dignified than using the stylus for dialing.

Nice idea. :D I was able to find a picture of the lanyard in question in the Gadgeteer's review of the DS:

Is it possible to buy just the lanyard anywhere? I checked ebay, no dice.

I believe there is a slot on the top to attach it to, next to the SD slot.

You can order replacement thumb-straps for the Nintendo DS from www.nintendo.com should be $3.95 plus shipping if memory serves me correctly.

Alternatively you could buy one of these:

For one hand use, I would recommend IMAGINET finger clix. This software has a very good contact search and turns your i-mate JAM into a Nokia-like dailer !!

Just install a screenprotector and you won't need an special stylus or the mentioned lanyard. All you need is a cleaning tissue ... noting more nothing less.

It works great for me ...

Best regards,

R.

Let's face it. The xda mini isn't really built for one handed use. Both the lanyard and the stinger stylus offer good alternatives but it all boils down to how big your hands are and how limber your thumb is. For navigating through the menu, sure. But for messaging? It's good practice for thumb wrestling olympics. :D
