Ok. Now itīs done .....

Rom is available.

Until now there are a few linitations with this ROM:

1.) Bootimage are not adjustable. Needs more investigations
2.) Flashing is only via EXE-File possible, because this ROMs are little bit bigger than the normal an xdatools checks the filesize.....
3.) Part of ROm that was reserved for backup is used in this ROM, so those data will be destroyed while flashing.....

ROM is available without any additional Programs (Download the Attachement) and also already included in the kitchen (http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/).

I cannot gurantee, that all is working fine. So flashing is on your own risc....

Also it would be great if some nice guys donate for the xda-developers or for me. Link ares available here and on my kitchen....

If you have any problems, please use this thread, PM to me or Email....

Have fun with the new ROM...

I think it does not (i repeat, i THINK). The sd-erase bug was a bug in Windows CE 4.2 (WM2003 based on that), and there were a patch that correct that bug (if you have the WCE4.2 source of course :) ), so WM2003SE should be patched.

i am geting GetDeviseData error, any idea? btw thanks for great work

There are 2 possibilities:

1.) Wrong device. This only works with Wallaby devices (XDA I / MDA I / ... )
2.) You have rom that prohibits flashing via exe (e.g. 4.01.16) Than you have to downgrade first via SD-card (e.g. Special Edition ROM) and then upgrade to WM2003SE

The poor signal on your ppc is from the radio version especially with 2003, well if it was a T313 version you wont experiment the poor signal strength.

I dont advise you to downgrade otherwise you'll get GSM ERROR which transforms ur PPC into a brick :(

I did have a older version of 2003 on my XDA 1, but the signal problems was causing me too many hassles, which is why I downgraded to 2002 again (without any problems) (and several times I might add  )

I have the same problem with volumecontrol button.
How to fix it?

I heve this rom for one day and it works really good. I only had problem once- with volume control, it display strange things, in settings nottification too. Hard reset helps. Now works good, SD card works good for now.

I had something kinda scary this morning...I woke up and i saw that my XDA is searching for network. Because usually it can't find it easily (signal strength is horrible in our house), i usually turn on flight mode then off. So i tried to turn on flight mode - and nothing. I did a soft reset...then my XDA's backlight started to "blink" and it looked like it can't recognize the GSM ROM (This was in the bottom right corner:
G
U
3.04

)
Anyway, I soft-reseted again, and everything works ok...well...this was strange.

Hi

Thx for the great work on this :D We all appreciate it..

Is someone else experiencing problems with turning the phone function back on after having it off (flight mode)? For me nothing happens when I try to turn it on, there is only two solutions then, soft reset or plugging in the power to it... Then it all of a sudden works to switch it on....

Running radio version 4.17, should I try to downgrade to someother version? Any specific one?

ohh yeah and my xda switched to version PW10B1 now instead of A, but that isnt important since this can be switched with a tool cant it?

Thx

OK,

I updated yesterday, I thought it run fine... well

this morning my battery was empty, phone network was turned off,
but I left it for all nite with battery charger connected.

when I taken XDA from the table it was calm on the backside so I thought it was charged fully. but the battery was empty - I mean: less than 20%, it allows me to wakeup XDA but only for seconds.

I see I have two power icons in the settings dialog.
maybe this is a problem? how to delete one of them? the older is not running - tapping does nothing, the new one opens new settings dialogs
and there the network connection was unchecked ad did not allow me check back with empty battery

when I connected the charger again, the phone network started to work back.

Fredde87
19th April 2005, 01:46 PM
JGUI, I have the same problem with network being dropped and only coming back with charger... Though I dont have the problem with battery, but I also have two power settings, both work....

Also mine is a bit slow sometimse but this is probebly to be expected running 2003se on a xda....

Is everyone experiencing these problems or are they unique to us?

JGUI
19th April 2005, 02:21 PM
I thought many times, I should back to to PPC2002 original XDA version.

Why? Just because this is the only version compiled before 11 September, and somehow I'm not sure what's inside every O/S after this date. Maybe this is obsession of mine only?

But this is a point why I still keep old XDA too.
Specially because I can write the program which will send SMS or Emails invisible to owner of XDA.

The only problem: in PPC2002 were poor GPRS and GSM bands.

any way.

can someone explain why and what's done with Watson Settings inside WM2003SE?

Fredde87
19th April 2005, 02:55 PM
JGUI, I solved the problem.... Just for the sake of it I installed wm2003se without any additional apps or tweaks... And it works flawless, must be something we have added... Can you post a list of what components your rom has?

JGUI
19th April 2005, 03:25 PM
sure,

I make own version yesterday,
I selected a few additionals, but not all I see after update,
some of them are visible as shortcuts but do not work.

here is the list:
spb gprs monitor
spb plus (older) - does not work correctly, close button is inactive in some case
cab install
notem
mms composer - does not work at all, even does not lunch (but the exe exists)

these icons are visible,
I'm not sure if I selected something more or not,
but I cannot find anything more, I remember I cleared all themes and boot images

so, should I use the clear version directly from this thread?

Fredde87
19th April 2005, 03:34 PM
Sorry I am going to have to redraw my statement... It started messing up again, it seems to work flawless just after upgrade, then after leaving it for a while the problems reaccured :/

Could this have something to do with either the radio version or the mhz of the frequency (mine got changed under 2003se)....

well

after 2nd or 3rd soft-reset the baterry charging started. strange.

when battery is full, phone bandwith seems to work okey. no breaks, no finding.

spb plus still does not work in correct way. some times it works some time tappint the close button does nothing, both for program and for settings dialogs.

still don't know how delete one of power settings icon.

I spend today hours for testing how my applications are working with this version O/S in this old XDA hardware.

just a little problems with refreshing of today add-in items.

I had some strange issues with charging back to WM2003, although i ahve no probs under WM2003SE. To hide the power button: Go to HKLM\ControlPanel\Power, and create a new string named "Redirect" and with no value. This will hide the new power icon instead of the old one, though. For task managing: I suggest you WisBar Advance 1.x for free and Wisbar Advance2 for a pay solution.

Question: Will XDA Extended Battery work w/WM2003SE?

JGUI
19th April 2005, 09:30 PM
more important problem is with GPRS connection.

I create new mode connection by GPRS, exactly the same way as in the previous version of O/S.

and now I cannot connect, get error: The answering modem has disconnected. To check....

I'm going to settings dialog, check all and nothing.

strange, because shortly after soft-reset I saw G icon on the top bar.

Using sd-card for flashing new ROM 100% sure. Did it about 5/6 times.
Downgrading via exe? Not done until now, but reflashed with WM2003SE, so there isn't such a protection in it like it is in the most T-Mobile ROMs....

Can you use the SD Method and does the EXE method work?

Until now you can only flash WM2003SE via the Exe-File, cause the romimage is a littel bit bigger than the normal. (OSImagetool reports a filesize error).
Flashed my devices about 10 times with the exe file and everytime it worked for me...

Hi all,

I have tried to upgrade my xda I (32MB) to 2003se with the kitchen ROM. After cold booting, the device hung on the boot screen, meaning that the three lines appear in the lower right corner of the screen and then the system seems to come to a halt.

What's even more puzzling is that it seems impossible to re-flash to any 4.x series (2003) ROM. Fired up the boot loader and tried several of the 4.01.19 ROMs I cooked in Lumpistefan's kitchen and which used to work before, and they all show the symptoms mentioned above - plus an inverted boot screen (upside down and flipped from left to right).

I was able to revert the device to a 3.19.01 ROM without problems, though. But it seems i have lost my upgrade path to 2003.

Anyone else experiencing this odd behaviour?

Andreas

I just cooked a plain vanilla 4.01.19 T-Mobile GER ROM (no additional Software, no autoconfig data) in the kitchen and this time the boot screen is displayed correctly. But apart from that, still no luck in booting the OS...

Looks like the same problem, when the radio stack have gone.

If you just enter the bootloader, do you get the normal screen or do you get an gsm error?

Hi Stefan,

no problems whatsoever concerning the Radio Stack, I'm afraid. The bootloader (v 5.14) says "GSM OK" and the diagnostics run fine...

Plus, the 3.19.01 ROM runs all right - wouldn't it refuse to boot as well if the Radio Stack was corrupt?

There has some problem on the rom.nb1 which is got by run the command:
perl splitrom.pl $inputrom -wo cfg/rom.nb1 -wx cfg/xipchain -oe 0x82000000
when I run the follow command:
perl splitrom.pl cfg/rom.nb1 | perl calcgaps.pl 0xfff >calc.txt
just got the error information:"xip regions not found: 81f50000=EXAPPS"
and got an empty file named calc.txt, cannot got the addresses :(

so I try to got the rom.nb1 file direct from my PPC which has upgrade to the WM2003se you offered. Using OSImageTool.exe and successfully got that file.

so I copy the new rom.nb1 to \mkrom\cfg and run the command:
perl splitrom.pl cfg/rom.nb1 | perl calcgaps.pl 0xfff >calc.txt

this time I got a calc.txt which contain those addresses

but this time I run the command:
perl splitrom.pl cfg/rom.nb1 –wx cfg/xipchain
http://forum.xda-developers.com/files/1_710.jpg
It seems that there is something wrong with the xipchain file.

and then after i put the files i want to add to the rom, and run:
./mkrom.sh cfg/rom.nb1
he tell me:
did not find xip region
Error creating new rom

Failed :( :(

I think the key is the xipchain file, i just got one which is not suitble for this WM2003se rom.
How can i do.

Hi, bit of a newbie...been lurking

Anyway, I upgraded yesterday and so far so good. A few problems but I suspect that's because I've reinstalled some programs that are not compatible with 2003se.

However I do have the following issues.

No Volume control
Active sync seems to come on and run in the background
Contacts list sometimes wont appear and when it does it often freezes and I can't see how to get it on my today screen
Pocket Nav seems a bit buggy
and today screen sometimes freezes
However, I'll continue to fiddle.

On the plus side, internet connection seems much faster and more stable
I love the landscape view option.

Thanks Stefan for the hard work. Oh, I had previously upgraded to the XDA Rom version 3.17 something I think, I'm not sure why this upgrade has downgraded my Rom to 3.04.00, is this something I did wrong in the kitchen or does it have to be this version for 2003se to work and does it make a difference anyway?

3. I had no stability issues so far, i have to softreset 1-2 times a day like back to ppc2002 or wm2003

Hi LumpiStefan,

I have updated with your ROM, but I have got an error ROM image not compatible. My SX56 is PW10B1/4.01 and your ROM is PW10A1/3.16. How can I fix it? Do we have any tool to change PW10B1 to PW10A1? Please give a link. Thanks

You probably have a T-mobile WM2003 ROM. You have to downgrade to a PPC2002 ROM then you'll be able to update to W2003SE.

Can anyone confirm that this is really working?
Edit: I applied it, unlocked my SD-card, softreseted about 10 times, pulled in/put about 8 times and changed theme twice....no wipes so far...looks promising :)

I was recently given a T-Mobile HTC9500 (XDA1) by a friend who purchased a new Blackberry. I was able to unlock it, using XDA Special Edition ROM, to be used on Cingular. I have a few questions. 1) Should I upgrade to WM2003 or 2003SE? 2) If so which and where do I get it? 3) Can some one tell me how to set it up to connect to the internet from the phone? I am unclear on how to set it up to get the most out of my Cingular service.

Sincerely,

JDS

connecting usb cable from dektop pc
does not wake up XDA

means, I have to turn the power on manually,
then it will start to synchronize by Activesync

anybody observe?

I've had wm2003se on my device for about 24 hours now, and this is the biggest problem I've found so far. It seems like there may be a fix in the registry for this. Anyone have any clues?

Would have liked to see PocketZenPhone in the kitchen, but that's a simple install that doesn't take up much space anyway. Overall, another class-act by Stefan. Where would this community be without the heavy hitters like him?

Any further clues on changing the boot screen?

I had something kinda scary this morning...I woke up and i saw that my XDA is searching for network. Because usually it can't find it easily (signal strength is horrible in our house), i usually turn on flight mode then off. So i tried to turn on flight mode - and nothing. I did a soft reset...then my XDA's backlight started to "blink" and it looked like it can't recognize the GSM ROM (This was in the bottom right corner:
G
U
3.04

)
Anyway, I soft-reseted again, and everything works ok...well...this was strange.

This sort of thing happened to me on a weekly basis before I installed this upgrade. I also downgraded my radio stack from 6.25.02 to 6.24.20 because I think that was the root of the problem. What's worse, a hard reset was the only solution I could find. Needless to say, I unfortunately became very good at restoring my PDA from scratch in about 30 min.

Removed it from the WM2003SE - Page, because it have some problems with the landscapemode and freezes the today.....
It is fixed in the actuel release, but not in the latest freeware version....

Dears,

I downloaded the original "wallaby__eng_original_se_rom.exe" and ran it. I got a weird crash. When I ran the programs, it says "Getting data from device...please wait for 10 seconds" then the window disappears or crash. It just disappears.

Device Information

ROM Ver: 3.16.13 ENG
ROM date: 01/09/03
Radio Ver: 3.19.01
Protocol ver: 32S54

Hi,
i have upgrade my Qtek 1010 to WM2003 SE 3.04.00 ENG from Http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
it's all OK very well, my Qtek is live and good healt, but i have a problem, in settings menu i don't have the icon "GPRS Settings" so i can't choice "PAP or CHAP" Authentication Method, and i can't connect to my service provider. With older ROM PPC 2002 i can choice PAP and the connetion was OK.

Any suggestion ?
Can i modify the registry and solve the problem ?
Any have new ROM version with GRPS setting ?

P.S. sorry for my bad english

Hi,

I Upgraded yesterday. In addition to the problem with the volume button, the following occurred:

After restoring (re-intalling) my old software the hardware buttons for the phone had no function. They didn't wake up the phone or start/stop the dailing process. I did a soft reset a couple of time but that didn't solve the problem. This morning the battery was low (normal). I performed a soft reset and during the boot process the battery warning appeared and threw the whole unit in chaos. None of the Today plug-ins appeared and the phone didn't recognize the SIM card. I plugged the power in and reset again. everything worked fine including the phone buttons (Vol still doesn't work). After charging I reset again without power and everything is still OK.

The reason the power was low is because I was listening to Some MP3s. The screen toggle function does not work correctly. The screen gets turned off for less than a second and then turned back on. Problem still exists after charging.

Anyone have similar problems?

Anyone know why the GPRS connection cannot be disconnected in the english versions of WM2003(SE) but can be in the German versions. Very annoying having to activate flight mode to disconnect!

Ok. Now itīs done .....
1.) Bootimage are not adjustable. Needs more investigations

Stefan,
Is the bootsplash stored at a different location other than 81900000, or 81ec0000? Has anyone tried pnewbmp.exe with -3 and -4 options? I may give it a try later to see if I can get it to work. If it doesn't, does anyone know how to determine where the bootsplash is located? Can we dump a ROM image (or just look at the flash image) and look for something that would indicate the beginning of the bitmap?

Stefan you really did a great job with your kitchen!
I cooked several images and I loved to work with your comfortable web page!

For those who have problems like devices that do not wake up or stability issues: Leave some space free when cooking a 2003 SE image!
I suggest a minimum of 370 kB.

My problem: After turning the device off, I wasn't able to turn it on again. The phone wasn't even able to receive a phone call. Only a reset helped.
An other weird thing: the sub folders ("Misc", "Internet", "Phone",...) under "Windows\Start Menu\Programs\" were not created by the kitchen!

I think the reason was that I selected too much software - only 3 kB of 3700 kB were free!
I tried two other configurations: One with 370 kB and one with 486 kB of unused rom space. Both worked.

An other image was not stable with enough free space. There appeared some memory crash messages in the today screen.
In my opinion this was caused by the two tools BatMemTime und tdMeter that do not work correctly under 2003 SE.
Stefan: Probably remove these versions from the kitchen. They don't work with the screen rotation function.

Greetings to all the XDA junkies out there!
Michael

Hi all,
I have a serious problem after "installing" WM2003SE. XDA hangs-up on the boot screen. The versions in the bottom are:

G32S54
U4.21
3.04

Could you help me how to start SE on my device? If I downgrade to PPC2002 everything is OK. Maybe wrong radiostack? Which should I use ad where to get it?Thanks, very much.

ok i bit the bullet and loaded an image i had downloaded before. some observations - second pass.

spefific issues:
-don't mess with pocketnav - leave it in pc2002 UI. this is what totally frustrated me before, didn't realize it worked the same way on WM2003.
-phonext - is a waste use mortring (Stefan it's freeware, maybe you can add?
-batmemtime - has the on and off again display problem, don't bother.
-tdclock - the bitmap font for the time didn't display right.

overall:
-still buggy, feels sort of like the win95 beta :( , but usable in like manner
-freezes and reboots common if you fiddle with settings a bit. must be memory management.

i'll see how long i can stand using it in this state. i might go back to wm2003 AWS gold version. didn't have the SD erase problem there anyway.

i'm getting the sense that programs are not that compatible with wm2003se. misbehaving problesm can easily crash the system. i've whittled away at it , even found that the inbox today plugin was causing problems. seems to be stabilizing somewhat. if a lot of problems wind up being incompatible, i'll go back to wm2003 gold release...

i'm sad to report that i went back to my wm2k3 (att image) after a few weeks of happiness with the sideways display. i had one too many struggles where i wound up rebooting when i was in the middle of something critical (like a call) . for light occasional use it may be ok but if you use your xda like a pda is normally used, it's not usable. i saved the bliss theme and all the others i didn't have before and set up like the way i had w2k3se. i have my volume button back and an infiintely more stable platform...
