I've decided to construct a piece to connect to the auxillary-in to the back of my car deck, I'm guessing:
2.5mm->RCA
I've decided to skip out on the 2.5mm->3.5mm / 3.5mm->RCA part
However, could this be any 2.5mm stereo plug? Or does it need to be a 2.5mm "4C" plug like the one they sell at pocketpctech?

I think it needs to be the 4 jobbie, otherwise the stereo gets screwed up.

I use a HAMA brand adapter. Item No. 43377.

Works perfect in stereo on my MDA compact.

what I did was to buy one of those cheapo handfree earpieces from the pound shop / dollar store - make sure its got 3 black rings on the plug then cut the mic and earpiece off and solder rca's or 3.5 jack or even xlr's. Soldering those 2.5mm jacks can be fiddly
hope this helps

What's the difference between the plug with three black rings from the plugs with just two?[/quote]

Just out of curiosity, IS there a plug which converts the 2.5mm plug used in the Magician to a standard 3.5mm stereo plug?

Hey I'm new here; just got a Jam and I'm lovin it.
Answer to question:
Yup and they're easy to find. Go to your local electronics shop (Radio Shack) and they'll have adaptors that convert a 2.5mm to 3.5mm. They cost about 50 cents. Stereo will work fine, but you won't be able to use the mic in anyway (if you know a little about electronics, you'll be able to study the adaptor and understand why; count the gold rings). I use one to hook my jam up to computer speakers next to my bed; works like a dream-lulling charm.

Yes, i use mine in the car with a Tape Adapter to get my MDAc playing tunes through the car stereo... and with my old iPod Shuffle earphones.
Maplin / Radio Shack / CPC any of those should sell you one, mine was about £2

Maplin do one for about £2 but is rigid and sticks out about 3 inches. I prefere buying cheap headphones and resoldering. It's fidly tho, and doing it wrong makes lots of crackling
Maplin sells an inline remote (ie volume control+socket adpator in one, wired) that allows you to plug a 3.5mm headphones into the inline controller, so Phone > Inline Controller > Headphones. Then you can use any headphones you have lying around with the inline control, ergo I use my sony canalplugs or hifi audio in.

in the US, radio shack has them as well as any decent electronics component store for a very cheap price. finding one that works with a headset is something i don't know about though...

I'm in Italy and here i can't find an adapter with 3 rings like the pocketpctechs that enable microphone. If i buy it online i must pay 28 Euros and i think that it's not the right price!

Try the following link. Near the end of the page is the 2.5 to 3.5 converter in black or white.

Have you thought of a Nokia Headset. I think the 3210/3310/3410/... Headsets have such an connector.
This would reduce your price from 28€ to about 10€ or even less.

Yes, this works, I use it this way.
The problem with Tomtom Version 5.x is that when it runs in background it stops navigating. So you should not have your mp3 player software in foreground while navigating.
