View Full Version : Upgrade to WM2005 - patch problems, and other questions

Firstly, forgive me if this has been covered - I tried searching for this but didn't find an answer...

I'm trying to upgrade my Orange M1000 to WM5 and am worried that I'll totally destroy my machine, so I'm treading as carefully as possible.

I've been following the instructions from xda2jojo but came across something very quickly:
The instructions say to search for nb.nbf. I guessed this might be a typo (?) so I downloaded nk.nbf instead.
I went to patch it but I get an error: "Sorry, this file cannot be patched!"

Also, when in the ROM editor, there is no option for Orange - which should I use instead?

Am I being really dumb or is this a real problem?

Thanks
MkS

I also have the same problem
I tried to patch NK.nbf but it fails, showing the message "Sorry, this file cannot be patched"

I also tried to update my TSM500 without editing this file, but it doesn't seem to connect. And when it connects, it shows a message saying that tuere is a language error.

I used HimaGetDeviceData to get the language configuration, but un file "Devicedata.txt" there is only a "U" and nothing else. There isnīt language nor version number, nothing...

Use this Himaupgrade file that bypases country and telco identity

ftp://xda:xda@www.xda-developers.com/Himalaya_SEs/HimaFiles/himaupgradeut_197.exe

I hope that this help...

Does that also get around the fact that the patch1.exe program claims that nk.nbf cannot be patched?

I have no idea, but the instructions for upgrading to WM5 say you've got to patch nk.nbf.

Hi - get the same problem with the patch. Am treading carefully too to ensure i don't have an expensive paperweight.

Anyone know if the patch is mandatory or is the file linked via the wiki for w2k05 ROM already patched and ready to go and therefore need to skip this step according to the FAQ

Thanks

Finally I got my xdaII updated. I didn't patch nk.nbf, I only uploaded the file.

The xda started correctly, and after an hour since I updated it, I only saw that the buttons "camera" and "recording" (left side of tha xda) doesn't seem to work.

I think that the memory is too low. Maybe I chose a wrong version of WM2005.

Storage
Total: 14.57 MB
In use: 1.74 MB
Free: 12.83 MB

Program
Total: 24.35 MB
In use: 14.94 MB
Free: 9.41 MB

Anybody else have the same memory problem?
Thx

(Pd: Voice recording key only works when display is off)

I had the same problem. I did not patch and performed the upgrade. Everything works fine except the record and camera buttons. Vito Button mapper does not help either, but it does allow you to make the contact & calendar buttons multi-functional so they can replace the for-now missing buttons.

Good luck.

if you received the "Sorry, this file cannot be patched" error message ..
there are only two reason .. maybe you downloaded a corrupted nk.nbf ..
exact size of nk.nbf
1.50f.00WWE
is 33,554,496 bytes(32,769kb)
1.50f.blWWE (BuzzMobile 2005)
is also 33,554,496 bytes(32,769kb)

but if you think you downloaded it right and still receive this error ..
it only means that you downloaded a already patched ROM and no need to patch it anymore ..
just skip the procedures about patching the rom
and go directly to upgrading

now if you receive a country id Error .. just use modified Himaupgradeut.exe

read the wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Himalaya_2005

to know where you can get the file

Bugger - I had to go back down to 2003SE.

No MMS, no Messenger, and no working Activesync. It looked so great too. It was the MMS and Activesync issues that were key for me though. Will wait till a definitive fix is found and try again.

Thanks for your help, though, guys. If I hadn't tried, I'd never know.

This is how i did it, works to the T 4 me (I Have A Zipped NK.NBF)

Step 1

Unzip From First Part, (It Should Automatically Unzip Second Part)
(Ignore this if you already have unzipped NK.NBF)

Step 2

Using WM2005patch1.exe Patch The NK.NBF File

Step 3

Using ER2003Edit Change The Country Code 2, O2 WWE

Step 4

Run HimaUpgradeUt.exe

Step 5

Once All Installed Reboot Fone And Run ExtROM_WM2005.cab,
ExtROMUnlocker(for_WM2005Only).cab And BuzzWM2005RAMDisk-Full.cab
2 unlock hidden memory!
(Shows 124mb Ramdisk & 15mb Storage formaly known as ExtRom)

Not sure if there is updated ramdisk or not...

My activesync 4 works flawlessy With Win XP Service Pack 2,

MMS Doesn't Work For Me Either,
I have downgraded back 2 wm2003se for this reason...
Well just untill Someone gets it running again...

Good Luck, & Ave Fun! The general layout onWM2005 is great.

I tried to update my M1000. The update ran but asfter a cold restart I get the splash screens followed by.....

Device authentication faliure. Please contact the product manufacturer. For reference, please provide your device ID.

How can I revert back to original firmware now activesync no longer recognises the pda? When I connect, a network device is detected but that is as far as things get.

I guess I've fried my pda, what now?

MadMaka13
19th June 2005, 06:46 PM
You ain't fried it unless you put in a pan:)

The Device authentication faliure - i had that the very first time i did it, i just re-did the patch & it got rid of that.
if still doesn't work, download the patch again from somewhere else....

and once you do that just reflash ya fone shouldnt matter activesync not wrkin right, if ya wanna reflash wm2005 or sumthin else just put it in boot loader mode - i think its,

- power button
- reset button
- direction button (big round button inbetween answer & hang up buttons)

Press all three at once, should go into bootloader mode then put in cradle and then run himaupgradeut and then it should start reflashing. - it did 4 me,

Good Luck Cheech,

I need some help. I have all the files to upgrade me XDA II to the WM5 os. but every time I do that it runs thought the entire installation, and when I hard reset it it comes up with a "device authentication" error.

I think it is because I am not running the 'patch1.exe' before I run the HimUpgradeUT.

So, my question is where can I download the file 'patch1.exe' for Wm5

Can anybody help

Joe

Hi there

I upgraded my i-mate Pocket PC to WM2005 and everything worked perfectly. I didn't need any patch.

Only problem I have now is that I installed Ramdisk after WM2005 now my PPC is messed up.

Hope someone can help me.

Hi

Is there any way I can get hold of the same files you used. I am desperate to get this phone working with MW2005.

I think I have the unpatached NK File. Therefore I need a 'Patch' file to patch it. Otherwise if someone can point me to a link where I can get the patched NG file it might help.

Thanks

I 4got 2 say that the ramdisk isn't for 1.60a, only for 1.5...
it shouldn't of screwed it, just uninstall it or reflash it you'll be right.
(my instructions were from wen I did wm2005 1.5...)

and as toenailed said sum of you downloaded the nb file already patched so yous are OK, but for the people getting the device authentication error, trie the patch it should work...

Just a heads up on 1.60,
wen installing apps trie to avoid installing to the main mem altogether it gets chewed up 2 quick, install to memcard instead. (I unlocked extrom an installed there 2),
also if you open a cab inside a zip it makes temp files in you main dir so remember to delete them once you done...
otherwise you'll be spinnin sayin 'wheres all my memory gone' ,like I did.

One thing I've noticed is that apps get installed in storage memory instead of program memory. My storage memory is down to 3.37MB but my pProgram memory still has 96MB free and yet I can't seem to install much anymore. How do you unlock EXTROM? What patch/file do i need and could you tell me where i could get them?

Thanks.

MadMaka13
29th June 2005, 06:14 AM
With 1.60a you cannot save to program memory only to storage memory, program memory is like a computers Ram now only for the running of programs not installing of programs or so thats what i hear,

Im actually not sure if your'e meant to use the extrom for storage but i just used the extrom unlocker program to unlock and saved a few programs in there, so far it has been working fine for me.
Where to find i don't know, seek and you shall find my friend...
i've just used unlocker program from wm1.5, from memory i acidently also used the one from 2003se and that worked too, but i could be wrong, but i think im not, but im not sure:-)

apart from that I think that the crew in here are working on the next version of WM and instead of 15/16mb of storage, i think it is going to be 30/32mb Main storage for apps and wat not which will be a considerable help with the installation of programs but personally i thing every1 is just gunna have to get in the habbit of saving to SD/MMC Cards. from here on in, pending on how much you really want on your device.

I've Gone bare minimum now, just the programs i use most none of the extra gadget apps, if ya know wat i mean.

By the way if anyone things im wrong in anyway please let me know, im jst trien to help a bit i aint a guieness..

I just installed the "RAMDISK 96MB Final cab" by Buzz and then apply the "RAMDISK TEMP PATCH" and I have heaps of memory available on my device. I had the problem of SPB Plus would not install to anything other than device memory so I had no choice but with all other programs they can be installed on RAMDISK or SD Card. I install "EXTENDED ROM UNLOCKER" and it whiped all my data and programs from "RAMDISK" does any one no why. is there a special sequence I have to install RAMDISK and EXTENDED ROM UNLOCKER, or are they just not compatable together?????

Thanks

I thought is was all or right but if I Soft Reset it delets everything on "Ramdisk" I have read that someone had this problem before but there didn't seem to be an answer other than editing the actual Rom file.

There are so many threads going about this subject in all different places and I have read so many of them last night and have learnt so much but I still can't find a definate solution to the memory other than edit the Rom before loading it on your phone.

RAMDISK is awesome as it gives you heaps more room on the device but it seems to be getting wiped on a soft reset.

From what I have read the only option is to use the "ExtROMUnlocker" and use the extra space you get there.

I can not go back to WM2003SE as WM2005 is so awesome so please anyone help?????

Another thing I noticed, if you are using a Bluetooth headset and bluetooth is enabled in the bluetooth manager but no enabled on the Today screen so has "Bluetooth headset mode is disabled" on your Today screen, the headset still connects.

It seems that its hopeless for us to use xBackup for WM2005....:(

Like what Sergio Bandeira said in another forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=23151), there is no need for backup since all data remain intact, ever after a hard reset.. I tried executing a hard reset and voila!! all my contacts, email messages, appointments are still there. Why not give it a try since you're upgrading anyway, and this is the best time to give WM5 Lightyear a workout.

Buzz, thanks for this great upgrade!!!

I did an upgrade from WM 2003 to WM2005 on my Orange SPV 1000. And as far as I can figure out after just two days use everything works just great.
(Or as great as a MS product will work...)
Here's how I did it:
Downloaded the 2.01a.00WWE rom from buzzdevs page.
+ HimaUpgradeUt_noID
Follow theinstructions in the READ_THIS_FIRST carefully, I went straight to step 5
Very easy :D
I now have:
ROM 2.01a.00WWE
Radio 1.10.00
Protocol 1337,18

Now you need to upgrade ActiveSync to 4.1 as older versions won't work.
