Dear all,
Does anyone know how to make Window Media Player recognize Chinese Characters. I have tons of Chinese songs and none of the titles can be read.
Thanks in advance

I have the same question too.
On the other hand, Ken, do u have solution to display chinese in WM5 (not WMP10 and PIE). I have installed a chinese pack for 2003 on the WM5, it is OK to display chinese filename but makes mess on showing Date and Time even on Today screen. And, as I know, CE star has been verified not to work on WM5.
Any suggested solution.

Knife Chinese is working generally but not for WMP and PIE still. Monster Chinese SIP is ok for Chinese text input.

Hi, Chris,
Knife seems not to be able to install on WM5. I have tried several times, but failed. What is the version you could install?

Knife chinese ->
www.gismosoft.com
v 3.20
Monster Chinese is a famous software. You should be able to find it. Can only install SIP, not the core system of monster chinese.
Make sure that they are install on the device, not storage card.

Thanks for buddies! :P

hi, i am japanese in china and i used try to make WM5 to chinese/japane machin, but as you know, the important file of wince.nls in windows folder, cant replace to another one. this wince.nls can make encode china and japane. Monster chinese/Cinese Star/Knifes also replace this.
(actuary, it can replaced, but cant effect)
But the old version of wince.nls cant efect in WM5.0. we have to wait chinese/japanese WM5 SDK to get wince.nls.
without effective this, no way to IE/e-mail
(in the inbox,UTF-8 can use for chinese.but not all the time)
So many encoding Softwares such like you tried, cant install or cant encode to chinese complietly.
following a my site to dicribe chinese/japanese input and encode on WM5

Instead of Knife Chinese system, you could just install a Chinese Pack (I tried to upload to FTP but failed). With that, Chinese can be displayed but still mess in Pocket IE, Word and Email. That may only be solved by an updated Wince.nls captured from a chinese version WM5 device in future.

i agree that, i tried many versions of wince.nls, ppc2002/2003/wince.net, also i edited previous wince.nls by binary editor and hexeditor, but still no use. just wait for becomming one!
Simple chinese/Japanes e-mail in inbox, can be displayed if it was sent with encode of UTF-8(sorry no test for Traditional Chinese)
You can see the captureed screen.
http://asukal.seesaa.net/article/3006810.html
also tried to edit registry for encoding, the "encoding to Japanese" in pIE can be seen, but no work.
just Date display of Today Screen, i got it by editing registry.
My be cant display following registry correctly in this site,
please see the capture screen at

What you want to do with mobem?
want to make chinese plat home?
if so, the mobem also cant make it.
just you can install SIP of Mobem.
this is PingYing Keyboard for Simple chinese SIP i made(captured from some soft and made it cab file)
you can use on WM 5.0 but very simple function.
http://www.asukal.jp/PingYing_SIP.cab
if yo need hand writing S/T chinese, you can get from here(same as Mobem)

Steps:
1. Replace the original wince.nls in \windows with the posted one.
2. Reset the device and change the regional to Chinese\Public of China.
3. Copy the sunfon.ac3 to \windows folder.
4. import fontlink.reg.
5. Use soft reset tools( Such as XCPUScalar reset) to reset your device.
Then everything is OK!

Sometime you may need soft reset two times using XCPUScalar to see changes in regional setting....

Emm... I can input Traditional Chinese Characters with Monster SIP. And It shows BIG5 Code setting for PIE. I think it may be no problem.

Before installing the FontPatch provided by chotty, try to install the ChinaPatch before that.
You could get the ChinaPatch at:
