when i have a program running that pairs with my Bluetooth GPS mouse it is impossible to turn of the screen with the power button. It turns back on when new data arrives.
Is there a workaround for this, for example programming a button to shut down the screen in some other way ?
please help as i desperatedly need the screen off to have a longer lasting battery power.
thanks

well as far as I know... if u turn the power off ... the bluetooth radio will stop...
that's why the screen activates itself...
any way.. if u don't want ur battery to drain power.. u can hold the power button for 2-3 sec.. and the light will be off... thus u can have more battery power.. and u can use ur GPS mouse... for longer time
and whenever u want the light back... repeat the previous procedure
I hope I could Help
Cheers

thanks for the info of course a good idea. However disabling the screen with the Widcomm Stack is possible. Why isnt that possible with the MS Stack ?

because MS bluetooth stack suck... that's why
the guys at Microsoft, don't even bother improving their stack at all...
Hopefully... we may see a working widdcom stack on the jam...

As far as I know...there is nothing like that....
the main problem lies with the MS Bluetooth stack....
It is impossible for the time being to enable bluetooth radio while the the screen is off....
anyway... I came up with this idea  ... but I haven't tried it.. u may try...
use any third party program that turns the screen off... ( Like Audio recorder or Media Played 10 or anything like that... ) ...
first turn the bluetooth on... then turn the screen off using the program...
It might work.... I hope

i did. I tried Mortsaver a really sophisticated Screen-OFF program. I asked for the feature in my desperate situation to be able to disable screen while BT on.
Resco audio recorder is also turned back on..

The same problem here. It's not a metter of saveing energy, rather if you have your ppc in a pocket, when the screen turn on touchscreen becomes active too, and could start some aplication by foult.

1. the widcomm stack does not work on the mini... until now...
2. if u fear to run some applications accidentally.. u can start a new note.. then turn the light off....
in this way, u won't run any application except for the note..( it is nearly impossible to tap start, then start any program while ur PPC in ur pocket )

yeah i just didnt mention it, thats anoying too. Just curious what application are you using the GPS with ?
@duke 911 thats a great idea again and is a working workaround. I just use mobile golf scorer with GPS. Now imagine me being on a golfcourse and tapping to start an app every time i play a ball.
this m$ stack is horrible and is like most M$ apps. It just works, nothing more.

doing some research other PDAs also have the "driver memory" problem on with the Widcomm 1.4.1 they say 1.3.1 worked without problems. Can someone look on his Harddrive if he still has that version ? I would trade M$ stack for an older widcomm any time..

is there any chance that in the near future there is widcomm installable or some other method making BT on the magician usable ?
