I've got my GPRS always on running MSN Messenger, which should also keep TCP/IP running. Lasts at least a day if it is mostly in standby and the reception is good.

I got this from HTC directly:

"The new product with Blackberry Connect S/W will lunch to the market later. Due to contracts with our customers, we can't to disclose further information and details. As soon as product launch to market, you will find more info on that for sure."

So it looks like we need to wait!

Interesting posting. I am also VERY VERY interested in using BB for my MDAc. Are there any news regarding the "right" .exe which will run with our "Baby"? At the T-Mobile page are too much that I really don't know how to handle the right one. Maybe any User Guide available, please?

Very very interesting....

But I have a look at the t-mobile link and I couldn't see any mention of blackberry in that new rom - is it there?

I too eagerly await the arrival of BB connect for the Jam. I hate swapping my sim card back and forth between the JAM and Blackberry.

I'm a little confused with Blackberry. I know it's concept as I used to sell it very briefly for Vodafone. If I set my Pocket Outlook to check for mail every 3 minutes and keep my GPRS on, what is the advantage of Blackberry besides saving me 2 and a half minutes of waiting for my e-mail?

the battery of blackberries last at least 10 times longer with gprs on whole day etc :)

Yes it is going to be finally out, most of the parties have already reached an agreement with RIM and Nokia would be launching BB Connect for their N9300 and N9500 later this month. From what I understand, BB connect for magician is currently undergoing testing by the telcos in Singapore.

FYI, the current BB connect that we are testing in Singapore is currently very secure as there is a global system wipe which can be sent via sms to your device to hardreset unit just in case it is lost. :D

Hi folks,

i found on a T-mobile Site in Austria the following Software for the magician: the long awaited blackberry connect software update

http://www.t-mobile.at//business/mobiles_arbeiten/download/bbconnect/index.html

Now I have the following question: Does this software work also for the German verison. I am unable to ask T-Mobile Germany, since I do not have an T-Mobile phone number.

Thanks for your help.

What benefit would Blackberry provide, except for the push email concept we already got through the latest Exchange server update?

The long awaited answer, at least for me is yes, Yes YES! it works!!! BUT there are a few drawbacks. Read the rest of the post before downloading the software.

Firstly the website warns very specifically to download only the German update for germany and the austrian update for austrian mdac's. otherwise the compact could break and they probably wouldn't refund.
As far as I know it only works on the t-mobile system, i have no idea about Vodafone or O²

The compact gets a new rom:
Rom Version now is 1.13.01 GER and ROM date is 08/18/05
ExtRom becomes 1.13.130.

Installing the client software is easy setting it up not quite so easy, (at least for me). The Blackberry (BB) Client software then gives the compact its own blackberry id which you have to register at www.instantemail.t-mobile.de. - Again this only works for the German T-mobile system (as its a german website).

Also don't forget to have the blackberry push service set up for you by t-mobile. I messed around with this for a week before getting it to work properly. The T-mobile support couldn't help because the software has not been released here yet.

I am so pleased that this works. I, like alot of others, have been waiting for this since the beginning of the year. Finally the Compact is the all round machine that it was meant to be. :D

I think people want this cos it's the only thing some other people have over us magician owners. Honestly I can't see how it would be any improvement.

What's annoying me, though, is that Vodafone Australia have stopped charging their GPRS by the kb and are now charging $1 every 5 minutes you're online! I guess this is better for all the kiddies downloading new games and stuff to their nokias but it means I can't automatically check for e-mails every 3 mins like I was.
When I rang them, they tried to sell me a blackberry handset and put me on their blackberry data+calls plan which isn't available for smart phone users. I told them to shove it cos my phone's heaps better than a blackberry and then asked them when they were bringing in the service for PDA/Smartphone users like Vodafone Germany's website has.
I swear, if I could see the girl at the other end of the phone line she would've had the most stupid, blank, glazed over look on her face! She had no idea!

I am trying to get a blackberry connect solution that means my XdaIImini will be able to receive the corporate email that is pushed to me by work. I have a Starhub (Singapore) number and blackberry account. If I install the German ROM I take it my machine will become German language? Also t looks like this solution is set up for T-Mobile Instant Email and not to set the machine to be a client for a corporate service.

The BB upgrade should also work for corperate accounts, at least that is what t-mobile states in their latest Dutch upgrade manual, see the thread about Dutch 1.13 rom for the location. But the mails goes via T-Mobile services and will cost you an xtra fee  so i'm very disappointed by this. don't know how to get it working without this as t-mobile is my provider. probably with a gprs-, wifi connection to another network should work.

Greetings M

I have got it to work with my corporate account. This closes the topic for me.

I used the Dutch ROM with the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe installer. It worked fine. I downloaded the PC software from T-Mobile. The set-up was easy - I just followed the messages and its now working.

This is now teh best piece of kit ever!!

If you mean that the 1.13 ROM supports the BB client, then yes, you can find it under the settings / instant email.

It doesn't automatically mean that you'll receive support in case of problems..

This link might be usefull for you:
http://www.t-mobile.nl/zakelijk/htdocs/page/service/blackberry_connect.asp
be aware that the upgrade has T-Mobile settings / ExtROM..
but the site can provide you some information.

And answer to the 'silly question', it doesn't change the language of your device to dutch as far as i know..

The client works fine for me, but my company uses exchange technology
wich i prefer 'cause it doesn't need any extra software or smth.

But it works fine.. i'm testing it for a few days to see what will happen..
In a pilot i had some mayor problems with my business e-mail/calendar,
but those bugs are squashed in the final versions

I am on the dutch 1.13 rom as well and can confirm that it is an English rom. All the T-Mobile stuff can be skipped happely in the usual soft-reset before customization starts method. Then you have the ext-rom unhidden and don't have the dutch settings for T-Mobile including time-zone and days of the week labels etc.

The rom seems pretty stable, but I still got gprs reconnection problems after closing the connection, didn't have them with the stone-age dutch rom (radio 1.01).

Have fun with it, M

I'm using the ROM for about 1,5 / 2 months now, and don't have any problems with GPRS. I do use some of the TMO stuff, and don't mind that it uses my memory, i quite often reset the device for testing purposes. And i customize it allways to my taste with toggle2day, spb tools etc.

The BIGstorage trick is nice, so maybe also for you if you skip most of the extrom stuff.. I liked it but had to go back to normal for my work/testing, will leave it on BIGstorage as soon as i don't need this one for work, i'll move over to the Wizard soon, operational.

If there only was a easy way to edit the extrom.... (not with perl)

Ok. I gave this a shot and this is how far I have been able to get.
I downloaded and installed the t-mobile dutch rom 1.13 with no problem.
I also downloaded and installed the Activesync Blackberry configuration tool with no problem. Now this is where i get stuck. When I run the instant email program it does not show a BB PIN (Pending) or IP Address (No Connection). I do not see any other settings I can edit.
Also the Activesync Blackberry configuration tool does not connect to the Magician. An error comes up saying it is unable to connect with the handset. The tool displays the BB PIN from my 7290.

I called my carrier and requested they activate the MAGICIAN IMEI which they did using the 7290 BB PIN(as I didn’t have anything else to offer) He said it worked on his end but nothing changed on my end.

Am I missing something here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just thought I might attach the BB connect cab from the xtended ROM of the 1.13 T-Mobile ROM from T-Mobile Netherlands. Hope it helps, might save you from flashing your whole ROM instead of just adding this cab.

Hi guys,

Dutch TMO 1.13WWE works fine with QTEK S100, i upgraded to 1.13 Radio stack also, and so far it's great( Hey, TMO loose that ugly pink stuff all over the PDA, lol..).
But BB client that comes with the Rom doesn't seem to work(i Use BES and BIS), gives me "illegal handheld PIN", on the network side everything is ok, so it must be the TMO client.
It worked fine with 1.12WWE and BB connect from Vodafone GR.that i had installed before(But in german..i need an english version:) ).
Can anyone share an experience like this....?

I have been using Ianywhere for Exchange for a while must say this works like a charm, on their website is a link for a 30 day trial version.

Wil cost about 140 euro per user and no need of monthy fees ( just gprs usage )

gspier - this is a quote from another thread:

PS. i have read alot of discussions on here about getting it to work properly... just to let you all know, if your PIN number for your blackberry client meant for another network.... blackberry themselves will cut of the traffic to your pin number... although this may take a week or so for it to cut off. The network you are with will not know this has happened hense you will get no help from them. This is a LICENSING issue... tech support advisors will not have this within thier network's published information.

Did you get cut off by Blackberry at some point?
