View Full Version : Range of Bluetooth in Imate Jam and BT Activesync?

Hi everybody. I'm a total noob here, this is my first post. I've been lurking for a while, but now that I'm a proud Jam owner, I need a bit of help.

I'm coming from an Ipaq 3970 that I had for a good three years. A week ago, I got a new Jam. Thanks to you guys, it's up and running with a ton of ram left over and I'm loving the experience except for the below.

My question is this: What is the effective range of the BT radio? I switched from the Widcomm stack to the XP SP2 stack on my PC when I got the Jam, and can sync without issue, when I'm within touching distance of my Wireless Networks Inc. 100m BT USB dongle. The moment I move out of the room the dongle is in, I lose the connection.

I never had this problem with the Ipaq before. I figure it could be one of three things:

1) the standard driver for the USB dongle (it's id'd as a Blutonium BC2035 single chip 2.4GHz) doesn't let it transmit at high power (unlike the Widcomm software), or

2) the Jam, though it is supposedly a Class 2 radio like the Ipaq, isn't really a Class 2 radio, or

3) there is something seriously wrong in how I set it all up.

I've read every scrap of info on the BT setup for activesync here and nothing leads me to believe that #3 is the answer since I can get it to work if I'm in my upstairs home office with the dongle (or in the room right under it, standing tall and holding my JAM up to the ceiling right under it). It just seems like a very limited range.

Also, if I shake my JAM a bit, there's a rattle inside that really sounds like something is broken and moving around. I hope this isn't the case, but any ideas there? The standard answer seems to be the slider, but it seems a bit more centrally located than that. Everything else but the BT is working fine though.

Thanks for ANY help you can provide.
