Hey,

I was just wondering what kind of headphones i can get for my I-Mate Jam?

Can i just go out and but normal headphones? I dont like the earbud type because they hurt my ears and they always fall out of my ears (I have never been able to wear them)

Thanks
T

Buy an adapter (normal 2,5 mm to 3,5 mm Adapter normally will do it but you can also get special (4 Pin) adapters, for example at www.expansys.com) and connect every headphone you want (with 3,5 mm connector). I recommend Koss headphones because they have the best sounding portable headphones in my opinion. Koss The Plug for example should be able to adapt even to your ears, since it uses foam earpieces which adapt to almost every ear. Better (but more expensive and also bigger) are the Porta Pro series.

Don't bother with adaptors which, in my experience, are never an exact fit.
I would recommend these from Seidio :

They're comfortable, lightweight and give decent audio quality.

3 questions:

1) I see the Seidio ones have a 'button' on them. Will this work for the Magician similarly to the include headphones? (i.e. will answer/hangup incoming call).

2) Does the Magician support headphones that have controls for more than just hangup/answer call? For instance, play next music track or stop music?

3) Are there any headphones out there that fit on the magician's connector, have 'the button', AND have an FM radio built in somehow?

Thanks for your help, you guys are great!

Ohters reused the headset that came with the Magician and soldered other headphones onto the box which contains the button.

Yes it does. You already know that there is a mic built into the control (?)
Sorry I can't help you with the other 2 questions.

That's what I did. I'm not very good with a soldering iron but I managed to do it reasonably easily, and the way the microphone/button case prises open means that all the soldering is completely hidden. Here's the link explaining how to do it:

the link posted by JPreston looks to be the perfect option.
the only concern I have is would there be a sound difference to use the newly purchased headphones this way or through adapter.

anyone had a chance to compare the headphones through adapter first and then after the soldering operation?

thanks.

I was also thinking about soldering before I saw this: http://www.pc-mobile.net/pxdaa.htm

Just perfect!

Had one of those for my Qtek1010 for a while. Lasted about three months before it broke. The cord would have needed better reinforcement where it connects to the plug/mic.

Sorry, no :( I fixed mine straightaway. But the sound quality is excellent, and I believe not at all adversely affected by the soldering job, after all that's how the original earphones are attached! TBH I wouldn't imagine that an adaptor would noticeably diminish sound quality either - I just didn't fancy having the adaptor extending the extra couple of centimetres out of the phone.
