i don't know, the size of the file for the rom is 27megs and the file version of the file is the right one for the smartphone that has been confirmed by other users. my program to crack the password for the zip file can take up to two days. i wish there was a quicker way around this.

figured it out, your bootloader needs to be upgraded to say Typhoon IU. mine didn't follow the second post from here to learn how to do it.

it works on the typhoon type devices ( with the long horizontal navigator button ), not on the feeler ( with the small round joystick), or sonata ( with music player buttons )

on the non-typhoon devices, the joystick button behaves strangely, you cannot move left/right.

Guys what we need is someone to actually confirm they have actually upgraded their device sucessfully (+ state which device they have i.e uk C500, US etc) and how they did it........I know instructions are provided but it seems that one wrong step and ppl are ending up with expensive paper weights!

but i think the version that is now circulating does not have the devauth patch

- you have to rename the file named 'devauth.exe' to something else.
for instance, by changing one letter in each of the file name entries, and updating the checksum at the start of the file accordingly.

Get it to bootloader and try to install the default roms!

Try downloading all the related typhoon roms , search in modaco if there's a patched installer..try your luck you might get your device back to business. Until this WM5 being patched and ready for safe installation...

I used to downgrade and upgrade my Spv-E200 and even stuck on 1% and 10% errors, after using some combos I managed to get the device working. I'm sorry, I never had my hands on a typhoon yet to play with..

After a reboot of the phone, I do have access to my storage card and the installed items popped up in my startmenu (visible in active sync explorer) but when starting my phone I get an error stating cprog.exe has caused ... and I can't do anything with my phone, the homepage is visible though. Tomorrow I will flash the rom again and reboot before using the phone, maybe that will help.

Windows Mobile 2005 and ActiveSync 4 are running fine now, (yes I couldn't wait to tomorrow) the only thing not working is the gprs settings cab from orange (which makes sense because of the new rom) the cprog error was caused by resco explorer wm2005 version, just use the smartphone version and your fine.

Steps I took:

Downloaded the two files from the ftp and extracted them
Download hex edit
Run Patched_RUU.exe from other tools
Hexedited the bin file as stated above (only my rom contained the value as it should be according to that post, so I've changed it to what is stated as the original value) and saved it as c:\USA.bin
installed active sync 4
Killed wcescomm.exe
Booted my SPV while holding the camera button
Pressed 0 on the SPV at the white UI box
Started mtty1.42.exe
Selected USB
l c:\USA.bin (if it seems to hang for a minute don't worry!)
rebooted the phone
after it started rebooted it again
Started activesync
Installed Explorer2003_s.exe so I had a file explorer.

Tomtom mobile 2005 seems to work (I only hope that it will work with other bluetooth gps devices then the rikaline, I don't think it will as the bluetooth options (the com ports can be changes from the bluetooth on/off/discoverable screen) seem the same as the newest france and uk orange roms (the ones with mediaplayer 10) and on those roms only rikaline gps works with tomtom.

But before you all go ahead and flash, beaware that going back isn't easy (I think I know a way but I haven't checked it.)

I will test tomtom with another gps and have a look at my gprs setting and will tell you some more tomorrow.

awesome you guys are so great. I love using it. seems much faster in the os. camera is a little slow but its alright. it can't seem to sync with outlook and windows media player doesn't detect it as a device. need to play with it more.

i'll got it working fine on my orange c500, i'll upload some screenshots as soon as i get some screen shot software.

one thing i have noticed thou isi can't seem to turn off the gprs once it is on. under the old roms you could hold the home key down and shit it off that way. but that doesn't seem to work with this version.

hey guys, i've had it working for two days now, i love it. the only thing that sucks is the camera app, its really slow and the quality is lower. ie is awesome and so much faster. the os is a lot better. just a lot of little things that make me happy. to get the ui with the question u have to upload the bootloader for it. trying to find the forum where i got that at.

the rom works fine, but remember to change the following hex-code inside the file:
old: 44 00 65 00 76 00 41 00 75 00 74 00 68 00
new: 41 00 75 00 74 00 68 00 44 00 65 00 76 00

Otherwise you will get the "device authentification error" after rebooting your device (see posts above in this thread).

Hi,

the file is still available on rapidshare (see link above).
You have to click on "Free" at the end of the first page and the wait a few seconds - the download link appears at the end of the second page.

If you search for the posted hex string you have to switch your hex editor to hex mode, otherwise the program searchs for ascii.
The posted hex string could definetely be found in the file.

I am still unable to get any version of update utility to run. The furthest I have got is to the screen that displays my phone specs, but when I choose update I get an error message, "can't open file".

This is also stopping me from changing my bootloader. Any suggestions, am I doing something wrong, is there a work around?

Yeah, see the problem is that I don't have the option to press 0, which as far as I know indicates that I have the wrong bootloader. However, since I can't seem to be able to run an update utility, I can't install the correct bootloader which will give me that option. I just get to the tri-colored screen with the USB option in the bottom left corner, but mtty doesn't work properly because of the bootloader problem. Hmmmm.

Thanks Newchurch, but see the problem is that when I try to run the patched update utility, I get this message:

And so this is where I continually get stuck, because all of the fixed I need to do, to make the update work get held up because I can't ever run an update utility....

Well, I finally managed to get the update utility to work, and by all accounts the bootloader should have been updated (it said it was completed successfully), but when I load the bootloader, it still says the SPL is the same version. This is what I see on the tri color screen:

So it seems the SPL isn't updating, and I'm wondering if even though it isn't version 2.xx, which apparently cannot be changed using the regular methods, that this one is somehow behaving the same way. Anyone else have this SPL version? Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply, but the forum was down here. Just search on sd card flash, and ask someone with a smt rom to make a complete backup for ya. The only smt rom I've got has an europian radio. So that has no 850Mhz band.

For all people having troubles to go back to wm2003 from wm2005 (becouse the spl loader).

You need an SD card bigger than 16 mg (i have used 1 GB card. Dont know the exact size needed...) and 2 phones. One is the WM2005 phone you have muted :D, and the other must to be another C500, SMT5600, or similar phone. You only need the second phone for about 2 minutes, so a friend´s phone i a good solution.


- Put the SD on the working wm2003 phone. Start the phone on bootloader screen (with the phone off, insert usb cable while pressing camera button).

-Stop wcescomm.exe from task manager.

-Start mtty1.42, and choose usb (hey. You must to know this if you have installed WM2005 ;))

-In the command window type "r2sd all" without the quotes. In less than a minute the backup to the sd will be efectuated.

-Extract sd card from phone and put it on the damn wm2005 phone :). Put it on bootloader screen. Ignore IU mode.

-When prompted press volume DOWN button, and wait. Your phone will be flashed (bootloader and SO rom).

Done.

-Now if you want you can flash again with your favourite rom with the traditional metod. (exe file).

There is other metod using a card reader, but if you have a friend with same phone is a fast and easy metod.

Remember that all the information stored in the sd will be lost!.

ive upgraded to 2005 and like it but have decided to downgrade again to 2003 which before i did the upgrade i backed up the rom to the sd and now ive comes to restore the 2003 and flashed that but now the phone continupously reboots itself at the orange screen,Do i need to downgrade the bottloader,ifso do you know where i can get the origional from,Thanks

So it seems the SPL isn't updating, and I'm wondering if even though it isn't version 2.xx, which apparently cannot be changed using the regular methods, that this one is somehow behaving the same way. Anyone else have this SPL version? Thanks.

had same problem, after a pc reboot everything went ok.
Which build version of AS4 do you have ?
Look at Help - About ActiveSync - build version should be 4343.

I did a ROM upgrade today to WM5. Interestingly enough, everything went smoothly to get the image on my device. However, now I can't use the phone on the Cingular network. Wierd. Look like I will have to go back to the old 2003 SE ROM. :cry:

Update: I pulled the battery and SIM card and now everything is working fine!

Update2: Looks like I have to change some settings to get the data network working - anybody have similar issues? Also, stilll trying to get ActiveSync working with my device. I have not problems with ActiveSync via Bluetooth, but with USB - no dice.

Update 3: Looks good, helps if ActiveSync successfully installs itself.

mate, rename the patched.bin to just patched i windows then try again loading the file still calling it patched.bin!

I have Dopod 565 which I am trying to downgrade it's Boot Loader from 2 to 1. I installed the TyphoonNBFTools, however after running it, any operation crashes it. Trying to Emergency flash or any operation related to the Smartphoen such as Immidiate Flash tools causes the crash of the utility. I am using Async 4, the lates build.. (perhaps should downgrade to 3.8?).
Any help is appreacited.

if you wanna go back download this bin file to put on the sd card with WRITER and your back to 2003 SE

Rename the file to rar extention ....

this is the orange rom backup 4.1.1.0 and if you want to use it you need 2 things . 1: USB card reader writer 2: a sd card bigger then 16 mb..
then you do the thing dicribed on the upper answers with psdwrite.exe into the command promt folowed by the drive letter where the card is into the reader . I did it also this way and after the backup installed on the c500 you can go to the latest rom of your country doing the upgrade on the regulair way...
There are roms circulating that are corupted this one worked for me...

I don`t have a source for you got it from a person from dutch forum and yesterday i got a HAMA usb 2.0 Card Reader 19 in 1 for 15 euro`s into the shop and did the trick. This was working and now i am back to 2003SE this Bin file dit his work great .

My friends Audiovox SMT5600 wouldnt take the upgrade until I downgraded.

Here's a good question:

The 2003SE OS reported "Cingular" at the top of the today screen
5.0 OS says "AT&T Wireless" after the downgrade and then OS upgrade.

How can I get "Cingular" back? (cosmetic only so far, all works)

My personal Typoon was the complete other way around. I got an unlocked unit on ebay. The 2003SE OS reported "AT&T Wireless"
I then ran the patched RUU bootloader to get UI
After the 5.0 upgrade my screen reports "Cingluar"

Wierd huh?

Also, is it confirmed that the BT DUN works to share GPRS to the laptop? (I havnt tried it yet but I thought I'd ask)

I also noticed that my friends Tyhpoon will not show any mailbox on the today screen except for Text Messages.

I added an IMAP account. It works great but never shows up on the today screen for easy access. (and to see how many new messages)

I've tried deleting and readding a new account with no luck.

Is this releated to the bootloader downgrade?

Any suggestions on what to try? My typhoon shows mailboxes just fine on the today screen.

I was so p..ssed that after successfully upgrading my C500 to WM5 I was not able to upgrade my TMo SDA Music. But with your directions I was able to downgrade the SPL and now the upgrade of the SDA worked like a charm.

Warning! I don't take any responsibility if you do something wrong or totally screw up your phone. You do it at you own risk. You were warned. Read this warning too.

Before you start I recommend to backup your ROM as described here using r2sd all command, save your backup to computer (for SDA actual size is 31328768, for SDA Music it could be different) and test your backup.

Replacing with SDA Music keybddr.dll

1. Rename WM2005 (build 14343) .bin file to WM2005.bin.
2. Unzip the attached 14343SDA-Mkeybd.zip and run SDAMkeybdpatch.exe.
3. When it ask about a directory choose the directory where your WM2005.bin is placed.
4. Continue with the wizard and WM2005.bin will be patched.
5. Before flashing the phone change SPL to v1.01.0109 (flash your phone with SPVDEVS-SPL.nbf).
6. I would also recommend changing CID to SuperCID.
7. Flash the phone.

SDA (not Music) owners can also use this tutorial to put WM2005 to their phones. After flashing add t-zones.exe to \Windows folder if you want your special 'T-Zone' button works. Special 'Messages' button will run WMP10. 'Camera' button doesn't work.

"radio" means de version of the "comunication" part ot the Software/OS not a regular FM radio as othe devices have.

Power off device.
Unplug USB cable from device.

Press and hold the Camera button down on your device. While still holding the Camera button plug device into PC via USB cable.
A white screen will appear briefly showing the following:
Need an IU (0)?
Select 0 to toggle this from N to Y.
Note: If your device begins to boot up normally, repeat Step 3.

Your device will now be in the boot loader. Your screen should be displaying the following:
Typhoon
IPL 1.00 (this may vary by device)
Typhoon
SPL 1.01.0109 (this may very by device)
Typhoon IU <-- IMPORTANT: If your device says XIP, you must repeat steps 1-3.

Your device is now ready to flash. Continue to Stage 5.

How to put Qtek 8100 in UI (flashing mode). I read those turtorial but I can't do that way. My QTEK display THIS:
