Looks nice, but based on what I have experienced with my Siemens SX66, I would be quite concerned with the mechanical quality / stability of something that can move THAT much.

It should be fine mechanically, I had a sharp Zaurus sl750 pda in which the screen swiveled the same way. After a couple years of use I had no issues. I followed the Zaurus forums for a long time and never recall anyone with a screen hinge issue. The only down side will be the constant use of phone features with pda doubling the exposure to damage and wear. With bluetooth though, it should remain in the case or pocket most of it's active phone life.

Although it is a big thing, I would really like to compare it for a week with my Qtek 9090...I think I will have mroe fun with it...

its nice and all but why is there no LCD display on the front...no wonder why there is no pictures of the Universal closed because there is not a damn thing on the cover...what if you get a call, you gotta open it everytime to see who it is...everything was lovely but there is always that one feature that people want that they forget to put on.....i don't know if want a universal now if i always gotta flip open this big device everytime a call comes in to see the caller id....what a disappointment....

I don't know of any converged device that doesn't require some sort of opening, be it a protective case/clip or the device itself, to access the screen. I guess you could use some of the devices without a protective case to get this "feature", but I would be more interested in protecting my investment. Even if it had a screen on the outside like the MPx-300, I would be inclined to protect it in some way as well. I don't see this as a disappointment, but as a good solution to the problem of a protective case adding to the thickness and weight of the device (That is if the outer shell is enough protection for the device). IMHO.

As far as I can see there are 3 different modes and none of them are compulsory
You don't want it closed - don't close it!

i understand its for protection but i'm talkin about just a small LCD screen that shows caller id, date and time...a small LCD like that would not make the device any thicker and it would be very convient to have so you wouldn't have to flip the phone open everytime you get a call to see the caller id especially when your using a headset.....

A small display on the front (when closed) would have been nice. In fact, this device would have been absolutely perfect if it had a small screen and a number pad on the front (when closed).
Imagine if it had a small cell phone screen and number pad on the front. That way you could have the caller ID (and even a picture caller ID if you wanted) without opening the device. And if there was a number pad there too, you could make full use of the phone functions, even one handed, without opening the device.
Then you could open it up and reveal the tablet-style PDA.
The best of both worlds. An easy to use, full function phone with a full keypad that is easy to use with one hand. And also a fully functioning Pocket PC with a big qwerty keyboard and a big screen. Cameras on both of them.
Maybe by the time the Universal makes it to Sprint in the USA, that's how it be. I doubt it, but it sure would be nice...

Wouldn't that be just a 3G Nokia Communicator?!

It would be similar to a communicator, but it would be running Windows Mobile, with 2 cameras, and the big, twistable screen.
But yeah, Nokia was definitely on the right track with the physical design of the communicator.
