View Full Version : I am really starting to hate my Alpine!

OK got a Himalaya and an Alpine (XDA branded) and my Himalaya is very happy now running WM2005 1.60a and the Alpine is running the O2 1.10 ROM.

I had forgotten how unstable WM2003se was compared to WM2005!

The phonepad keeps breaking, have to reinstall from cab files regularly, had to do this on the Himalaya too so it's not the particular ROM or anything I don't think.

Crashes, and lockups, corruption on the today screen that either require a soft reset or messing about changing today themes.

My problem is this, on the Himalaya running 2005, I have many apps installed to my SD card, which is fine, but when I need to use WiFi I need to unplug that to use the SDIO WLAN card, so I am unable to then use many of the programs installed.

Damn shame to let this Alpine gather dust, considering it has 128mb ram and rom, and could run 2005 so much better.

Are there any any newer English ROMs for the Alpine, or should I sit and wait with it boxed up until someone releases something else for it?

I was very annoyed at people working on 2005 for xda2 at the time as I believed that we would get grief from MS about it. It seems that, on the whole, that hasn't happened.

I got a 2i thinking that it would be the next upgrade, therefore when an even newer one comes along - ie Universal - I would be better placed to flog the 2i to pay for it. I'm almost starting to regret that decision as I would dearly love the have 2005 on my 2i...and if I had kept the xda2 I would have been enjoying 2005y goodness by now. Grrr!!

Bring on Universal that's what I say!!

Yes there's other released roms for your ALPINE especially from IMATE and Qtek... So get the Pda2 WWE ROM from IMATE and try to use it on you XDA2i..
Good Luck my friend..

Yeah, I thought you had to enter your IMEI to access images on the i-mate site.

Have you got a direct link please?

Alan,
I read your thread and have similar dislikes about me Alpine. I have an O2 XDAIIi.
How did your upgrade go?
I downloaded the ROM upgrade but haven't installed it. I am really green at this and not sure how/if I should back up the ROM I have in case I need to restore. Did you do that? Can you guide me on how?
If the ROM upgrade was successful, were you able to install 2005? Again, can you point me in the direction of that download, and instructions.
Greatly appreciated,
Kyle

Try this page, it's about the most up to date ROM for the 2i at the moment. I've had no problems with it at all.

Urm.. you didn't actually post a link?

I am using the i-mate one at the moment, too many people seem to be having problems with the O2 1.11 ROM

True

Sorry, blonde moment there.

I reckon the problem with the new O2 ROM is the radio stack is still the original one. The radio stack on the ROM in the above link is the much better I-mate one with the updates of the O2 ROM.
