Camera Problem on I-Mate Jam

I heard that the camera on this phone sucks. I wasn't aware of this. Is there some kind of setting needed to straighten out my problem. Each time I press the camera bitton on the side or tap the CAMERA icon the screen turns green and very grainy. Waht have I done wrong?
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks
