It's likely the ROM dump or "leak" you received is not for the Magician, but for the Himalaya or another device. Attempting to flash it onto a different hardware device may result in a Houdini... also known as a dead Magician.

HOWEVER!
I've got in my possession a copy of the latest leak of WM5 (sorry i aint gonna post it) - if I follow the rom upgrade procedure which I've done many a time to put bigstorage on there... would it work?
and if it all goes wrong, would I still be able to put my old backup rom on there? (I take it upgrading to WM5 shouldnt affect the bootloader)

I think it's for the better if you share the rom, and let the team work get you the right way to flash this device!

Anyway, I'm not interested in this rom bcz I don't own a magician and never liked to. But the main idea if you'd be sharing, am sure you'll be happy as the other ppl in here in which they used the Himalaya's rom ;) and made major updates to it, Thanks to Buzz, and the others whom worked hard to dump it!

It's your choice, I believe you'll be taking the right decisions in order to let the team work to be done on the right track.

I have a rom for the himalaya and if someone wants it please tell me and i will share! (i think it was also released in this forum so it is available to everebody). Mine was downloaded from a ftp that i found by "accident"!!

Another advice, don't try to flash it, if not completly sure that is for the magician.. If it isn't they are right, you will kill your magician!

I have a full working copy of windows xp professional working on my xda 1, it interfaces directly with a food mixer, fridge and cooker, downloads recipes and cooks a meal automatically. It comes as a kit, the rom and a usb splitter lead, it also gives broadband internet and sky tv free for life.

Can I say something terrible? I don't believe WM5 will ever be fitted to the Magician!

Why? Because the OS is fully developed by now. This means that there is no point in beta testing the OS on the Magician, because it is already RTM. And since new devices with WM5 preinstalled will soon be hitting the market, it would make much more sense spending the developement money on them.

The only reason to make a new OS run on old hardware, is if you have no alternative, ie no newer/better hardware. Since clearly that is no longer the case, I doubt that WM5 will ever run on the Magician, even behind the scene.

Hope I am wrong, but I doubt it...

As for the author of this thread, my bet is that he just stumbled across usenet and found a WM5 ROM. Not knowing for which device it was intended, he came here for help. Still thinking that no one else knows of usenet and he struck gold, he's not willing to share.

But think about this: if your contacts are good enough for you to get your hands on WM5, which NO ONE else has been able to, surely they can help you install it too?

Hey man, just go home and enjoy your dead Magician. I could not believe that someone who dont even know how to flash the OS could have the latest WM2005 for Magician which none of the experts here found it so far. I bet you have either WM2005 for other PDA or you have nothing!!!

I don't care if he actually did have a working Windows Mobile 5.0 ROM for the Magician. His attitude and selfishness makes him a first-rate prick - who'd be in their right mind to step forward and assist someone who has no intention of sharing with the community?

Everything here we've done, we've done for the interest of our fellow HTC device owners, from hacking and splicing up the ROMs in the PDA2k to enabling Voice Command over Bluetooth on the Magician, to getting WM5 to run on the Himalaya. All because we've shared and pooled our resources.

With a childish comment like, "Like I said, I'm not sharing it," this thread is no more useful than the bots that post porn advertisements or something that would be in the off-topic/joke section.

Let's go back to the sticky I made and wait for a real Messiah.
