As it says at the top of this pge of threads and all the way through this thread you can't put anything on your 2020i except WM2003.

There is No upgrade.

As is stated i this thread and others, "to infinity and beyond", the Alpine cannot be upgraded to anything axcept cooked versions of WM2003.

Apologies to any Toy Story fans out there.

hi guys,

As i read the post, many people say it is not possible to make a customized wm5 or wm6.1 for this wonderful PPC, but as i look the number of the people who visit Alpine threads are considerably low in compare to other PPC threads. So it means, here we do not have any experienced cooker, who has tried to cook a rom. So i think, everyone is waiting for HTC to release a rom-update, which is never gone happen. So my question is, is there anyone who has tried to cook any kind of rom?

I may well be wrong but All ROM cooking starts from a known working ROM for the PPC in question. If that is so the there is never going to be one for the Alpine.

I have found a PPC with almost the same type of processor with WM5. here is the line;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/iPAQ-rw6815-Personal-Messenger-Bluetooth/dp/tech-data/B000LBDMQM

The processor is from the same family, specification are almost the same except this one is "PXA272 416 MHz" and Alpine has "PXA272 512 MHz". I think this shows that it is possible to run wm5 on Alpine. Now we need an expert in Rom field to guide us.:rolleyes:

I have also found the link for the Rom;

tell you what, why dont you download the roms, flash it and let us all know the results?..
I hope you work in construction cause you WILL make a brick!..

lets face it the XDA2i is a great gadget but its way past its development stages. I too really wish it were possible to upgrade them but its never to be. . I still keep mine running just for old time sake really but from day to day im a Kaiser man now.

Over n out...........

My observation which has obviously been missed, despite being quoted is that ROM cooking starts from a known working ROM for the PPC in question, in this case an Alpine. As there is no WM5 ROM for the Alpine the cooking can't even begin.

Same processor does not equal same other hardware.
