A couple of years ago, HP charged $30.00 to upgrade from PPC 2002 to PPC 2003. I see no reason why the carriers wouldn't try the same thing again.
I'd have to imagine that Microsoft is not going to give a new OS away for free (why should they?). They certainly have never done it before.

HTC has never released any rom to the public. This is not part of thier core business.
Its the carriers that give us roms or not as in the case of t.mobile uk which has yet to release the 1.31 wwe rom.
Facts.
We have proof of a wm5 rom through MS video and trade shows.
We have no statements from any carrier that they will upgrade BA to wm5.
We all want the wm5 and most of us will get when our contracts run out and we buy a new device (which is what carriers want)
Pop sorry
Are only how is grab_it and somebody with a BA that has benn loaded with wm5.

well...carriers to the best of my knowledge make no profit from selling these devices. What they want are subscribers.

any reason why you use t-mobile if your a cingular employee being that employees get great discounts on service?
sales reps will feed you anything to be interested in their product, simple as that.

A few months ago, I had the Orange SPV C500 smartphone (I dunno what HTC call it, I forgot)
Anyway, Microsoft were adament that no old Smartphones would get a Media Player 10 update, only newer models. Weeks later, Audiovox started releasing their version of the C500 with MP10 as standard.
Orange Assured us there would be no further ROM updates for u at all.
2 weeks after that, out of the blue, Orange released a ROM update including Media Player 10.
Moral of the story: Microsoft are secretive. They do what they like with little warning. With enough pressure, this update will come. We have evidence that someone has been paid to make this update. I doubt they'll waste it.

From my sources...
All WM5 RTM Device ROMS are now tagged to the Device's IMEI.
Hence, a dumped ROM may not be useful after all :)
Just my 2 cents.....
