View Full Version : BlueAngel WM5 on FTP!

mamaich
6th September 2005, 01:13 AM
There is a file pda2K_2k5.rar on FTP that contains the WM5 ROM for BlueAngel. Origin of the file is unknown, flashing it to my device showed that it is really a WM5 ROM that is working. The OS version is 5.1.1700 build 14343, it has MS bluetooth stack and no camera. The camera drivers are present, so I think it would be possible to extract app from Himalaya ROM.
It has no MMS application and no SIM toolkit.
I've repartitioned DOC, so now I have 61Mb storage area and 128Mb RAM that are fully accessible.
All hardware buttons are working, and the keyboard is working fine, though there is no control panel applet that allows you to turn off its backlight.
Making hardreset is tricky - you have to press camera, record, power and reset buttons simultaneously. There you'll have a choice to use debugger (something about KITL), reset registry and format built-in storage. Navigation in menu is done with camera and record buttons, exit - "mail" button.

Unbelievable!
Awesome etc.

I think the simplest thing to say is: THANK YOU!

That will not stop me from buying a native WM5 PDAphone like the Universal or the Wizard, but still I'm really happy this happened. If only that could force O2, I-Mate, Qtek etc. to sell an official upgrade, that would be nice...

Until now, I had to put my BA in reserve and used my XDAII for everyday for a single problem: BT!!! Maybe the MS stack here will do as good as the one in my XDAII 1.72. Just need my GPS and headset to work properly. The rest is luxury at this point.

BTW, Mamaich, is the procedure similar as the one for Himalaya WM5? Any difference?

Cheers,

Hal

Hi Mamaich,

I installed WM5.0 on my PDA2k but unlike you, i only got 49MB storage space. How is it that you got 61MB while i got only 49MB. What did i do wrong?

Also, why am i not able to synchronise with outlook after the rom upgrade?

Thirdly, i can pair my BT headset with my PDA2k but it does not transfer any calls to the headset. I tried using a BT GPS and that works perfectly fine. What do u suppose the problem is?

Would appreciate your comments.

I´ve searched the registry with no luck at all... Is there anyway to lower the backlight brightness? Cause like this it drains the battery really fast! Rudra was right :?

I´ve searched the registry with no luck at all... Is there anyway to lower the backlight brightness? Cause like this it drains the battery really fast! Rudra was right :?Maybe SPB Pocket Plus 3.0 can lower the brightness?
The main reason for battery draining in my case was that buttons are not locked when the phone is turned off. So it constantly turns on when it is in pocket. To fix this - take following files from 1.40 ROM:
Backlight.exe
ButtonLock.exe
CSDType.exe
DIM.exe
Keyboard.exe
MicrophoneAGC.exe
WLanMgr.exe
MyCPL.cpl
and copy to \Windows folder on your device. Windows would cry that files are unsigned - say "yes", then reboot. You'll be able to turn keyboard backlight off, lock buttons, change GPRS class, but you cannot change brightness. The sliders are ignored.
I've attached the needed files.

So far this is what i've gathered....

All buttons work except read below

Camera doesn't function, In options under pictures and video camera doesn't work.

Keyboard works

WiFI works

Bluetooth works (better)

Email works.

MMS is missing

Text messaging works

Built in photo callerid

MSN works with hotmail accounts

Device only syncs with activesync 4.0

boot loader screen is really ugly and looks like the emergency broadcast test.

But other then that it works fantastic!

How is the speed of the device now with Win2005 ?
Is it slower than before?
battery time?

Do we need MaUpgradeUt_noID.zip to install Win2005?
The PDA2K needs to be in bootloader mode?
Are are the steps?

I use a limited amount of apps so I am perhaps not the best person to ask, but, yes it is a little slower but I can live with it.

Tweaks2k2 - Cannot get the registration screen to work, keeps giving an error :(

Contactbreeze - Works a treat :D :D

Pocket Mechanic - Works a treat :D :D

TomTom5 won't install :( :(

Incredibly, my BT headset works better than it did before. Just paired up and tried it and I got lovely clear reception.

I believe mamaich has posted some registry hacks to speed things up a little, I am going to try them later.

FYI - Got TomTom 5 working. You have to extract the cab files and load them onto you SD card then run them one by one.

If you stay at v5.0 then you get no onscreen keyboard.

Do the same with v5.10 and voila you have a fully functional TomTom 5 with keyboard on screen et al. Took it for a twenty mile spin and it never froze once.

Even better, I use a BT mouse, and that AND the BT headset worked at the same time - no loss of BT signal on either device. :D :D :D

Or, another option: there's 40000+ members here, some of them just have to be or know Microsoft employees that have worked on WM5 for the Blue Angel.

Ok, so why would they help us now, they never leaked the OS to us, right? But that's probably because their versions were individually marked with their ID and they didn't want to risk getting spanked by Billy. Now that we already have the actual OS and just need a few extra things, maybe one of them could help us out anonymously.

Nah... I'm probably dreaming here...

Hi,‎
Thanks for this efforts.‎
Up till now I faced so many problems, like‎

1--Every time PPC if goes into sleep mode than u have to press reset button. ‎Any solution for this problem (i.e. power button is not working after sleep ‎mode).‎

2--Arabic software, Arabizer 1.3 is not working. Now I have to check any ‎patch for the windows 2005 if it is available at the web site available, ‎which is an impossible task.‎ i can not make enable to arbizer & every time there is message " this software was ment for QTek version"

3--Why is it necessary to have 60Mb space? Can we utilize some space about ‎‎5-7MB for Ext-ROM.?

4--I could not get software from storage card on folder 2577, after warm ‎boot, may be I a doing some mistake any help?

Since Arabizer is free to use if it is install through ext-ROM after warm boot but if it is install by ‎cab file it will start asking CD-key.‎ Any soloution for this problem?
In short it’s a good experience for learning purposes, otherwise for a ‎person like me it’s a much more headache than before.‎

3--Why is it necessary to have 60Mb space? Can we utilize some space about ‎‎5-7MB for Ext-ROM.?‎Currently there is no program that would allow access to extended_rom under 2K5. I was able to manually install missing driver and edit registry to get this folder, maybe later I'll make a CAB file.

4--I could not get software from storage card on folder 2577, after warm ‎boot, may be I a doing some mistake any help?‎ 2577 is for ARMV4. Under 2K5 we have ARMV4I, so the number is different. You'll need to fing the correct number under MSDN, it may be 2579 (I'm not sure).

IF so is there any instructions out there to do so? I tried running BaUpgradeUT with the I-Mate 1.40-176 rom which was what my device came with but I get an

Error 120: COUNTRY ID Error N-N-12-12-12

you have to put the BA in bootloader mode (hard reset ehile holding the record button) to avoid the country-id errors

-Anybody know if SPB GPRS monitor works on WM5
-and if WLAN works corectly on WM5 (internet over WLAN)

WLAN works, but it has a tendency to turn itself off when the PPC is turned off for a while.

WLAN always turns it off when you turn off your PPC and turns back when you turn on your PPC...at least that is the ways it worked under 2003SE.

Mastiff

Yeah, but here it doesn't turn itself on again.

J4n3000, you mean you don't have a problem with WLAN not turning on again when the PPC has been suspended? I may have to do a hard reset in that case. This first install has been a lot of experimenting anyway.

Oh, and the MMS app didn't do anything for me, I'm afraid.

Hi,

Anyone can help .

During the end of upgrading, there is a following line :

Press Power + Softreset, and when the colored stripes (well, this is the bootscreen :) )shows on the screen.

You'll see three options; change the second and the third to "yes"
(which are reset registry and format built-in storage), and exit "mail" button.

Do it necessay to change the second & third option to "yes" to have a complete upgrade.

I am asking because i have a faulty "mail" buttons , so i cannot exit if hardreset the device after upgrade.

Tweaks2k2 - Cannot get the registration screen to work, keeps giving an error :(

It's working in the HTC Magician so I do not know what you have screwed in this ROM. It seems to me that it has to do with how the OS or .NET handles the encryption/decryption process.

I have ugraded to WM2005 with no problems. Excellent work, thank you all.

However I have a couple of issues. Although I have installed the latest BlueTooth patch it is still switching off when the pda is in standby mode.

Also I am trying to install a jarver .jap application called traffictv. In 2003SE we had small program that allowed these type of applets but I can not find it in 2005. Any ideas?

Could anyone tell me whether this new OS is for the XDA IIs, (charcoal grey, slide out keyboard, currently win mobile 2003 SE), i'm reasonably sure this is the same device as the blue angel your referring to but i'd like to be sure before i try and do anything to it.

Thanks :)

Indra9110
I actually read these forums & WIKI quite religiously and have found their content to be invaluable. If not for the tireless efforts of so many here (mamaich, MDAIIuser & too many others to name) we would not see the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform on any Blue Angel devices at all. Nor would we have all of the cooked ROM's, Bluetooth patches, and registry tweaks that have come out of a community effort. I myself have developed and tested software, but not at the level of genius that can be found within these pages and hosted on WIKI.

After reviewing all on WM5 and the many problems encountered and in many cases successful resolutions, the WM5 platform appears to be pretty stable on PH20B BA's.

In my post I was merely inquiring if there is any effort to bring WM5 to the CDMA device. Other than the clear message at the top of the WM5 for BA WIKI page indicating that the upgrade "will not work for PH20A or PH20B1 devices", I haven't seen any posts indicating why the upgrade won't work, if any development is in progress, or if it will *ever* be possible to run WM5 on PH20A devices. Occasionally, a user will inquire as to whether the provided WM5 upgrade will work on their device or how to accomplish the upgrade, at which time a "Read the WIKI pages found at ..." is approriate.

As you can see from my post's signature, you will note that I am quite clear on what device I have and the fact that I have already upgraded as much as I believe I can (except for bluetooth stack 3900 which I have found to be too unstable for my purposes -- "Not enough memory" issue). I owe my successful ROM and Radio upgrades to the contribitors of XDA Developers and WIKI for which I am eternally grateful!

What I do not appreciate, however, is a "canned response" of quote "READ WIKI !!!" from someone who probably seeks out "newbies" in an effort to embarrass them for their own enjoyment. Again, I am no stranger to this and many other boards where I frequently contribute (e.g. EVDO forum, PDAhome, etc).

I urge anyone reading this to consider the next time they respond to a "newbie" or perceived "newbie" with a "Read the FAQ !!!" type response that they try to be a bit more patient and understanding, evaluate the user level carefully, and to provide helpful responses (i.e. thread links or specific information) rather than a pat response. It is only through careful consideration and clear communication that forums such as these may thrive for the empowerment of all.

Thank you for your time and attention! I wish all of us success in overcoming our individual device issues.

I welcome any helpful response to my original post questioning any status of the development of WM5 for PH20A devices.

Intresting reading!

It seems to be my understanding that the CDMA can not be upgraded to WM5 as they have a different hardware as seen in the radio version. Thus unless a version happens to leak there is not much chance of seeing it work on a CDMA.

I seem to remember a thread on that subject.

I understand your feelings about the way some newbiews are treated on this board however we have 2 stickys that point these people to wiki as well as a few contributers that have a wiki link in there signatures.

The problem is 2 fold,

1) Few of the new users can be asssed to read wiki or search the forum before posting.
2) Few of the old users can be assed to update wiki with info that they have learnt.

Thus its gets boring to answer questions over and over again and the best response is read wiki.

Thanks very much for your specific & helpful response; I appreciate it!

I can also understand your response re: answering questions that can be found elsewhere. I would continue to suggest that responses to newbies not be "shouted" in ALL CAPS or with 3 exclamation points (!!!) as was the case in the response I received.

Should any moderator or contributor become too frustrated or "bored" in answering posts here such that they lash out at newbie questions, its probably best to ignore the post for another to answer rather than alienating users. Sorry -- my 2 cents worth. I now consider the matter closed.

With regard to WM5 on CMDA devices; I will continue to monitor these pages to see if an updare does occur.

Again, I appreciate your candid & helpful response.

I've been testing this rom for some days now, and by far this is the best one yet, It works like it was ment for the BA, there is absolutely no lagging, for example when using file explorer and you go to the windows folder, it loads up fast, the only problem with it is that the FrontLight.dll does not work, so I cant change the light settings. but thats ok. thanks to who ever put this out there.

This site seems super & very helpful other than the fact that it seems quite a few of us cant even find the software.
If someone could actually supply a working link for this update for those of us who have not yet got it that would be super.
Please dont just post a useless link like all the previous posts please supply a working link for us that doesnt require a password or you can supply the password for also.
This would be very much appreciated thanx.
I can even host it to prevent further frustration for others if needed.

thanks a lot guys, I just upgraded my qtek 9090 to Windows Mobile 2005. It works well, just slow, but well.

I have radio version 1.12.00, is out there a changelog regarding 1.12.00->1.13.00?

keep on hacking.

downgraded to 2003se, used mamaich's DOC tool to repartition and flashing wm5 back..

seems ok now
I want to install WM5 on my Qtec 9090, but i got a problem! My Qtec rebooted when I tried to change sim, but on the short reinstall sequence, the device lost power again, resulting in a new reboot, a white screen and the ping that appears after a hard reset.

I have tried to hard reset the device several times, but I got this white screen and the ping sound.

I guess some damage have been done to the software. When i try the BA_DT_Nordic_NorwayRetail_14000_552_11200_ship rom, i get wrong country code. It was bought as an early version (english) in Norway, 2,5years ago

Do anyone have a clue? I cannot use any program for repartitioning or anything ON the device. I can access the files on the device via activesync, but the device appears to not start up.

Thanks for any help!
