Lets make a topic and post here fixes and useful stuff we'll find about WM5.
Here are tips to speedup WM2005 on BA:
1. Disable most sounds

2. [deleted, integrated into ba_wm5_fix.cab]

3. It is very annoying that OS checks the digital signature of all DLL/EXE files. I've uploaded a patched version that does not do that to /Uploads/Blueangel/wm5_test/ba_wm5_patch2.rar on FTP. It is nk.nbf file, replace the original file with it and reflash the device. This ROM version works a bit faster.updated 14 sent, probably fixed a problem that some CABs did not install.

4. Finally I've managed to make a backlight fix, I've taken FrontLight.Dll from 1.40 ROM and made a CAB-file that installs it and makes necessary registry changes. This CAB also contains registry fixes from p.2 and missing EXE files from my lower post. To install it just copy it to your device and run. updated 10 sent. 2005. Added 2 bluetooth files provided by ramram (today icon and bt settings). Removed STK.EXE.

5. I don't like the default behavior of hardware buttons - the leftmost and rightmost are mapped to softkeys. I've attached the fix that restores the WM2003 behavior. Previous version was not working. I've attached a fixed build.

6. To send files over BT use this method. Turn on BT, in Explorer tap on file and in context menu select "Beam File". It would send file over BT and IRDA.

7. Attached the camera fix CAB. It is taken from old ROM and is not fully compatible with WM5.

8. ramram made a CAB with album and MIDI ringtone support - http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=6658

9. dynastykai and rschell posted here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=152526#152533) that deleting hklm\drivers\builtin\camera and cameradriver registry keys would fix sound problems under SX66. I've attached a CAB file that would remove these keys (remove_camera_reg.rar). Updated 10 sent 2005, previous version did not install.

10. Added Headset_Today.rar. It shows bluetooth headset mode on today screen.

11. Added extended ROM unlocker

12. brn2prgrm found a fix for WiFi connection dropping on resume from standby - http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30840
I've made BA_WIFI_FIX.CAB that sets the required registry value.

Note. After editing registry you need to power off your device, wait several seconds and soft reset. Otherwise changes would be lost!

Note2. When you install CAB file and it asks you to reboot device - don't do this! Power down your device, wait a bit, power on and then reboot. Otherwise registry would not be updated.

Note3. All CAB files attached here would work only on patched ROM!

Note4. Attached files may uninstall incorrectly.

Note5. If you have installed a previous patched or unpatched ROM - you can safely reflash your device with the most recent version. No data except for clock settings would be lost. It is not necessary to reinstall CAB files if they were already installed.

I'll copy here the other my post.

The main reason for battery draining in my case was that buttons are not locked when the phone is turned off. So it constantly turns on when it is in pocket. To fix this - take following files from 1.40 ROM:

You'll be able to turn keyboard backlight off, lock buttons, change GPRS class, but you cannot change brightness. The sliders are ignored. They are ignored even if you'll take driver from the WM2003 OS.

Guys, Install Album with midi.rar , it will enable the album works with the camera file tweaked by Mamaich and especially to enable midis as ringtones good luck :D

I also created a cab file to let you disconnect from the G bubble while you're connecting from the GPRS.

Tonailed created a file to wake up the device and turn on the screen backlight the time you receive an SMS. Click here to download! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=7129)

To resolve the issue of the voice command "Low voice while announcing the names" on WM2005 install this patch:

Bug: Bluetooth shuts off when the device power button is pushed.

Bug: GRPS cannot be connected manually, it has to be done using a web browser.

Fix: By setting the clock to always be on the task bar, it greatly increases speed, reason it no longer has to redraw the bar at the top. So switching between windows is much faster. To do this click on clock settings in the control panel.

thanks

So in my oppinion the first step now must be to create a buglist . I think, devs wiki would be a great place for this, what do you think?

I tried that, no joy. I think it is more basic than that one registry setting. Also tried changing wavedev.dll to btceavif.dll in the registry, again no joy.

You have to wait a few seconds, until it dials. But it works! On PH20B1 Devices there is no sound after all. Can PH20B users copy that? What about sound on your devices?

I've made a fix for the backlight problem and integrated there ramram's CAB. See the first post.

Bubisch. I don't have sound problems.
icohen2005. On my device it is not slow, no problems with rings or phone pad. I use patched ROM version.
The only problem left is that it does not respond for several seconds to keypresses/screen taps after it is turned off and quickly on again. And SPB PocketPlus 3.0 today plugin slowsdown the device.

I use dualsim adapter, after upgrading, the radio doesn't work. When I put single Sim card the radio is OK. Cause WM2005 has no STK? How to fix this problem? If it does not work, may be I downgrade to 2003se :(

Hi mamaich. Great work on this Rom,but I am as confused as a baby in a topless bar :? .....Could we maybe get a step by step guide to installing this Rom? I have read so much of the "use this, don't use this, use this fix",etc that I am not sure what to use or what order to use them in!
Thanks again for all you do........Later 8)

Lets make a topic and post here fixes and useful stuff we'll find about WM5.
Here are tips to speedup WM2005 on BA:
1. Disable most sounds

2. Use registry editor:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev]
create there a DWORD key named Priority256 with value 128 (all numbers I'll post here are decimal), this would eliminate clicks during audio playback
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\GLYPHCACHE]
edit the "limit" value there and change it to a larger value. I recommend at least 32768 (default was 8192). For Chinese and Japanese fonts the value may be 65536. This would speedup font drawing.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS]
Set "flags" value to 65606. This would increase a bit filesystem performance.
Set CacheSize to 256. This would increase cache to 128Kb. Value 4096 would make a 2Mb cache. Values larger than 256 does not give noticeable increase in performance.

3. It is very annoying that OS checks the digital signature of all DLL/EXE files. I've uploaded a patched version that does not do that to /Upload/Blueangel/test/patched_2K5_no_check_for_signed_modules.rar on FTP. It is nk.nbf file, replace the original file with it and reflash the device. This ROM version works a bit faster.

I've tested it only on patched ROM from p.3

Note. After editing registry you need to power off your device, wait several seconds and soft reset. Otherwise changes would be lost!

Mamaich, thanks for your fixes so far. Just wondered if you can create a brightness fix for the unpatched rom as well. Thanks

Edit: Also how about looking at reassigning the soft key buttons? Without access to the "ok" key the stylus is still needed on most screens.

Does anyone else have a problem with Activesync autostarting on the phone? Or trying to connect and forcing a GPRS connection? I've looked at the options and cant find anything to disable this.

Mamaich,

Great work on improving the stability and usefulness of WM5 so far!

Have you (or anyone else) given any thoughts to the issue some BA models appear to have with NO SOUND?

I have been struggling with the issue, and I am sorry to say that I have not figured out a solution so far.

ok till now my major problem i cant dial from the pad no reaction in real time some other program function more or less
it look so googd that i feel sorry to go back to 1.40 ver but its seem that the bug is still ther
i also notice there is no backup system ?????????????
so i hope that after so long waitting the problem will solve in someway

TheGadgetGuy
7th September 2005, 04:46 PM
Icohen,

Here are some answers to your concerns...

There is no 'backup system', because it's built into WM5. It's called 'persistant storage'. ALL of your data is saved into what you used to call 'extended ROM', so the data remains even if you hard reset.

As for the dialer issue, here's the solution (for now). Open the phone program, Go to 'menu' then 'options'. Change the Keypad sound to 'OFF'. Then say 'OK'.

That should solve your problems.

Good luck to you. At least you have sound. Some of us (myself included) have NO sounds at all!

I'll copy here the other my post.

The main reason for battery draining in my case was that buttons are not locked when the phone is turned off. So it constantly turns on when it is in pocket. To fix this - take following files from 1.40 ROM:
Backlight.exe
ButtonLock.exe
CSDType.exe
DIM.exe
Keyboard.exe
MicrophoneAGC.exe
WLanMgr.exe
MyCPL.cpl
and copy to \Windows folder on your device. Windows would cry that files are unsigned - say "yes", then reboot. You'll be able to turn keyboard backlight off, lock buttons, change GPRS class, but you cannot change brightness. The sliders are ignored. They are ignored even if you'll take driver from the WM2003 OS.

I have managed to get the internet key (button 9) on the hardware keyboard working under WM5. Simply install one of the button 9 customization cabs from a 1.40 extended rom, this will enable button 9 under buttons in System; it can now be reassigned as normal. It doesnt have an icon but im sure someone can sort that out.

The driver.dll that comes with wm5 contains information that allows the pictures and video module to load the camera, windows 2003se uses those two files to load the camera and is launched using the camera program.

So replacing the driver.dll only removed the functionality of the camera out of the pictures and video module,

So long story short those files did me no good because the old camera app doesnt' run on wm5 and drivers are structured differently.

sorry thought i'd try :)

i bonded my BA with a V800 put the passkey etc in- every thing seemed to have gone through but it froze th v800 the option to turn bluetooth off was greyedout and the bluetooth icon on th v800 was showing an active data transfare icon (same as if the phone was reciving or sending data via bluetooth) theonly way to cancel this was by turning the v800 off
also tried this with a nokia 6230i and SE p900 all simliar symptoms---

neva mind hopefully someone  will be kind enough to fix all the bugs

Have you (or anyone else) given any thoughts to the issue some BA models appear to have with NO SOUND?
Here are different versions of wavedev.dll drivers I've found on my PC. Someone who has problems with sound should check all of them. Maybe one of them would fix the issue.
Test instructions:
1. Extract archive to \Windows directory on the device
2. Edit the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev], set "Dll" value to "wavedev1.dll"
3. Power down the device, wait a bit (so that registry is flushed) and reboot.
4. If sound does not appear - repeat step 2, but set "Dll" value to "wavedev2.dll", and then "wavedev3.dll"

The device may hang on startup, so be careful.

Archive contains DLLs:
wavedev1.dll - from THB_Carkit_0408.CAB update taken from someone's extended ROM
wavedev2.dll - from Harrier's 1.35 ROM
wavedev3.dll - from Imate 1.31 ROM
Unfortunately wavedev.dll from SX66 update does not have relocations info so it cannot be used.

Note. These DLLs would work only on patched version of ROM - /Uploads/Blueangel/WM5Pack/WM5_BA_Patched_pack.rar

I tried all three, No sound. I'm using the version of wiki, is there a difference. The timestamp is 10 mins different. Willing to try any other suggestions.

Can anyone test if changing the reg to:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\l2 cap]

"IdlePhys"=dword:000000ff

Increases the bluetooth timeout?

Just one more:

To send files via bluetooth just select beam file or send to infrared and wait a bit, after that you'll see the bluetooth device on the list, and you only have to select it just as it was a infrared device...

The same applies to contacts, appointments, whatever :)

Maybe this is a little bit out of topic, currently I have shipped o2 Asia ROM

ROM: 1.40.00 WWE
Date: 03/10/05
Radio: 1.12.00
Protocol: 1337.42
ExtROM: 1.40.923 WWE
MMS: 2.0.0.21
BT: 1.0.0 Build 3900

Does upgrading to WM5 means upgrading ROM, Radio, Protocol, ExtROM,MMS,BT ?

Hey Mamaich, let me start off by saying great work!!! I had already started working on the no sound issue on the PH20B1. Unfortunately i haven't made any progress. Actually I had already replaced the wavedev.dll with the wavedev.dll from the THB_Carkit.cab. When I replace it, I receive an error complaining about corrupt format when I tried to play a sound file. I know the CODEC_GSM610 driver is responsible for decoding different sound formats. I tried copying gsm610.acm from my /windows directory, but was unable to do so. What I am getting at is maybe the wavedev.dll replacement may work if it was accompanied with the gsm610.acm from the 2003 ROM. Do you have any Idea on how to extract this file from a 2003 Rom?

Also what do you mean when you say "relocations info"? Thx

Here is a blurb I posted on Buzz's site (buzzdev.net). It makes my SX66 with WM5 Usable:

Here is a hack that I have applied to WM5 for the PHB021. As we all know, the PHB021 has an issue with no sound. And it seems when the operating system tries to play a file it pauses for about 20 secs. I initially turn off all sounds, which seem to help a bit. But I soon realized that not all sounds can be turned off; like the beep when you disconnect/hangup you phone.

I did some fiddling with the registry, and was able to kill the operating systems ability to play sounds, thus resulting with, no more pauses. In the registry if you navigate to: HKLM/drivers/bultin/CODEC_GSM610

Under this key you will find a string named "Dll". If you rename it to "-Dll", you will not get anymore pauses. Worked for me to say the least. Of course you can still make and receive calls. I believe the audio is piped directly from the internal modem on PPC devices, which independent of the OS and survives this registry hack.

It has made the OS much more usable. Can't play sound, but this is a small price to pay to stay on the "Cutting Edge"

Wait Hold the press! I thought PPC's had a mechanism in which you could overwrite a ROM file by coping over it. I know I doesn't actually overwrite it, but it will be be used instead of the actually ROM file. Its some sort of precedence. Try it, I have done it many of times. How do you think people upgrade the Bluetooth stacks and such?

Knowning you are the local guru; can you tell me whats the best way to copy or extract a file from a ROM.

to mamaich: what does in fact the button fix do? does it map the ok button to OK or makes it configurable in the buttons app? It removes completely the OS softkey handling by replacing keyboard driver with the 1.40 version. So everything returned as it was in WM2003 OS. You cannot remap any of the hardware keys to softkeys unless someone would write a program that would simulate softkey pressing.

I had the smae problem with my SX66.
Well, if you download the patch file from wiki, (MaUpgradeId.rar), unrar and keep the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe file, but use the HTCRUU.xxx (two files) from the original WM5_BA_Patched_pack, MAKE SURE that you rename them to RUU.xxx, otherwise, you will get error.

Then site back and walk through the upgrading process. For your convinience, I upload the rar file here to use directly to upgrade on SX66.

But the no sound is still the issue for SX66...gurus...who can solve it?

Hi folks!

First of all, thanks for your great work here!

I managed to update my MDAIII from the Telekom to the first published WM2005 (the one not patched).

Now I am trying to update it to the actual (patched) version, but all I get is the wrong ID message.

I tried it with the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe trick, but with this, the update process doesn't even start.

It shows the current version to be 5, the new one is said to be 1.4 (even tough i am using the patched nk.nbf).

Then the screen checking your device data appears and that's it. Nothing else happens. The device doesn't even turn to the bootloader mode....

I can remember there was a way to update the PPC by copying something to the SD card, but I can't remember how that worked.

Anyone with a good idea for me?

Thanks again for the great work you are doing!

Make sure your phone says 'USB' when in the dock before starting the program.

You can set password timeout to large value if you don't need it.
how about file btceavif.dll also thanksThis profile should be already present in WM5, and the BT HID is also there. But I have not tested any of them.

Hello BA users! Congratulations on your BAs running WM5.0. I've heard something's wrong with the camera application.

Attached is the CECamera sample project from Visual Studio .NET 2005 Beta 2 which is intended to run on WM5.0 devices.

1) Install .NET Compact Framework v2
2) Extract ZIP file and copy extracted files into your device then run CECamera.exe

Let me know if it works :)

We might want to change the Priority256 setting in HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\Wavedev to 0xD2 (210) to eliminate some skips.

Give it a try and see what you think. Ron

Fantastic work everyone! The people who frequent this forum are some of the greatest people! THANK YOU

This ROM is so wonderful! Only thing left to fix is the the bluetooth. The weird thing is that with this ROM the bluetooth has less static, better range, and better connections.

Only 2 problems:

1.) Randomly dissconnects the headset durring calls. This morning I had the headset disconnect 3 times durring a 10 min phone call. Each time all I had todo was press the headset button to re-connect (without loosing the call).

2.) Bluetooth won't stay on. I enable it. But sometime later (an hour or so) it disabled bluetooth by iteself. I have to go back into the bluetooth settings and re-enable it.

Thank You

We might want to change the Priority256 setting in HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\Wavedev to 0xD2 (210) to eliminate some skips.ba_wm5_fix_v1.rar sets this key to 128 value. This would give waveaudio a higher priority than "210". 250 is the default value for wavedev, and 210 is not much better.
When I try to delete those key I get an "Access Denied" Error. What am I missing?you don;t ned to delete those keys. You need to delete only "Dll" value. Or set it to empty string.

Hey guys,
long time reader first time poster here.
First I wanted to say thank you thank you thank you for everyones hard work! Great Job!

I upgraded my 02 XDAIIs, everything went smoothly and I followed the instructions perfectly, however, the phone part of the device function doesnt work at all. It doesnt allow me to do anything related to the phone and gives me a "Unknown Sim status" error when I go into the Phone program. It cant be my sim card - it works in every other phone I have.
When I go into device Information I get:
ROM: 5.03.02 WWE
Radio Version: NONE
Protocol Version: NONE
ExtROM Version: NONE
Call me stupid but I think my phones not working because theres no Radio?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, Im relitively a newb but how the hell did the ROM install without anything else? The phone worked perfectly before.
Thanks in advance,
Matt.

Thanks ahegazi for the reply!
After 2 hours of playing with it I finally got it to work. Soft resets would make the the radio versions appear, but then after when I would put the sim in, again it would say none and not work.
The only thing that solved this was going back into the bootloader mode (power + soft then cam + note button) with the sim card already in and then doing a hard reset.
Weird, but happy it works!

OK guys, after waiting for the right moment i have finally upgraded my BA to WM5!!!!

I was waiting for the camera fix which works perfectly-no complaints.
But I see the storage on my phone is now 60 mb, but i also notice that this 60mb are for saving programs, pictures, videos etc.
before i used to use the storage side to store pics and vids so that i can have apps running quickly and i was great but now i can hardly store these as the programs take up all the space. now on my phone i have 0.30mb free on storage and 100.56mb free on program.

Is there any way to use the program memory to extend the storage as i desperatly need it???

Thanking everyone out there for this!

Hello folks!

I finally managed to update to the latest version and it's runnning like hell now!
I am so glad!

But a have a minor request: can we change the boot screen? These colored bars look like...

I tried it with the tricks in the "how to change the boot screen" thread, but this doesn't seem to work with WM2005...

Any idea, just to make it perfect?

The next problem I encounter: is Sprite Backup not working with WM2005?
It starts backing up the device, calculating the registry size and then, all of a sudden, stops working...

I also can't get a connection to my bluetooth GPS Mouse (from NAVIGON) under TomTom5. It worked fine on the 2003SE version, but now it doesn't establish a connection.
It still works fine with NAVIGON Mobile Navigator 5, but not with TomTom... Any idea?

Thanks again for the great work you are doing here...

I believe that would be solved by installing TomTom 5.10 instead of 5. But how can you upgrade on this thing? I get a crash in the installation program every time I try! And is it possible to find the CAB file for 5.10 anywhere?

I have exactly the same problem.
Whenever I try to install TomTom via the original CD or update with the downloaded Program, the installation software crashes...
Some .CAB files would be really helpful here.

A quick-fix I use to re-enable Bluetooth after a power off is PocketZenPhone. I have an old freeware copy of pZp. Each preset on pZp has Radio/Bluetooth settings. I made one that turns BT off and the rest of them turns it on. When my bluetooth is turned off via a power cycle or the power timeout I just click the 2 presets on my today screen real fast and it re-enables bluetooth. It's much faster than going into Bluetooth Manager or the wireless section of Power to re-enable it.

_Sammy_
9th September 2005, 09:02 PM
First two words : Really Great ! ;o)

If you like to install TomTom, make sure you find the map 'pocketpc' on your CD ( or the map 'nvapp/app' if you're installing TT 5.1) You'll find the CAB's 'gps', 'ttn', 'wzd' and 'PIMAddIn'. Copy these files to your PPC and run them.

Voila, you can now use TT on your sparkling WM5 device !

@ Mastiff (And other with TT Troubles...)

You can download the 5.1 from www.tomtom.com. It's a zipped file witch if you unpack it, contains the separate files... (in the map mentioned before 'nvapp/app'

This should do it !

And no, I haven't found the time to test it with WM2005's GPS... perhaps tomorrow....

I've tried that. The TomTomPPCUP510.zip file doesn't contain those files at all. It contains an exe file, a few small files and a setup.apk that I think contains the update itself. If you have a zipfile that contains cabfiles, please tell me where to get that.

Edit: Got it! You need to run the update until it's ready for the real install and then copy the files out of the temporary directory it creates!

Hi Mamaich, Great work and Buzz. You guys are HEROs of the BA communities.
I have finally managed to upgrade my PDA2K successfully with your Patched Rom. Configured my PDA with 60MBRam and 128MB RAM. It was a bit tricky to set the last three options, but managed finally. My BA works fine.
Sound OK
Backlight OK
Phone OK
Voice Commander OK
Camera works Half OK. Installed the Camera2K5_V1. CAB. When I press the camera button, the camera launched but will not snap picture when I press the camera button.
Had trouble installing Destinator3 - 'Unknown Device Processor Type 2577 or OS 351"
Installed WorldMAte Pro, unable to launch it ' Error" some error message flashed by
Installed WorldMate Expense, same problem as previous.
Just have to tryout BT, WIFI.
Unable to compose SMS.

Apart from that WM5 seem to work quite well.
Thanks for all your efforts and to the rest of the WM5 team

Have you been able to pair it?

If you have then do not forget you also need to set up a GPS com port using the GPS applet in start\settings\system.

You also have to make a new incoming port in Bluetooth\settings\COM Ports that matches the com port you make in the GPS applet.

Finally in TomTom you have to use other wired mouse option and set it to the com port you have set up.

I am using a Holux 236 and mine works a treat, except, that TomTom seems to be very slow when using any of the setup/preferences buttons.

hey guys,

I'm running Chris Daly's cooked rom and extended rom, love it but I just HAVE to try WM5. I've done the reading and I was thinking I was ready to upgrade then I double checked my phone hardware version by removing the battery from the back. The model id reads SIEMENS SX66 PH20B. So, my question is, when I read the newly updated wiki this morning I saw this:
Copy the files into the correct location.

If you have a PH20B device such as MDAIII, QTEK 9090, XDAIIs, PDA2K etc.

* copy nk.nbf from the folder "WM5_mamaich_patched" to PH20B folder.
* Run BaUpgradeUt.exe, see next step.

If you have a PH20B1 device such as SX66

* copy nk.nbf from the folder "WM5_mamaich_patched" to PH20B1 folder.
* Run MaUpgradeUt_noid.exe, see next step.

Since my device says PH20B and is a Cingular/USA phone, am I to assume it is NOT an SX66?

At this point I'm a bit confused as to what path to follow, PH20B or PH20B1.

Also, do the cingular USA gprs and gsm settings have to be manually entered after the wm5 upgrade or will my phone work without me having to enter in all the parameters for my cell network?

Thanks for all the hard work guys, this is a great community!

At rare occassions, flight mode refuses to turn off and the phone function cannot be used.

This is what happened: I inserted my SIM card. Turned on the BA. (Noted that Wifi is on by itself this time! Weird, the opposite is happening usually with all WM5 BAs). I turned off flight mode. It kept searching network coverage. It took long and nothing yet. I turned on flight mode, and back off. Nothing anymore. Upon a soft reset, the R and G version numbers do not show on the boot screen (the word NONE is displayed). Still flight mode cannot be turned off. Another soft reset. The version numbers are back, flight mode can be turned off, and it's working.

Bottomline: A soft-reset that shows NONE as version numbers of Radio and Protocol (G) should be followed by another soft reset to fix this problem.

Same here, My Extended-Rom is gone. is there any way to rebuild another one???

hy all,

I'm getting trouble with the extended rom, cant see it or unhide unlock it.

http://buzzdev.net/components/com_simpleboard/uploaded/images/Unlock.jpg
(copied link)

i've made my settings to Repart_DOC file size of 128k ascribed as wiki

http://forum.xda-developers.com/files/sized/hardware_info-200.jpg
Now i don't have a extended rom anymore?
Extrom version: "blanco"

:D

I've noticed the wiki was updated, about this.

Would anyone know if you downgraded to wm2003 made a external rom of a couple of mb's, re-upgraded to wm2005 works to see a extrom version?!

It's a big problem i think, where not able to change the splash screens.
And i've problems when i change my dialerskin, even after the 10sec off + softreset by buttons are not shown only the backskin

Hmmm,

Finally get to test the WM2005 wiyh TomTom 5.1. Result : NOT WORKING.

I cannot find out how to put the settings right to combine a Parrot 3300 / The (stupid) GPS from WM2005 / TomTom5.1.

If anybody who has a working solution, can post his settings here, it would be VERY helpfull !

Thanx,

Im having the same problem with TT5, i have searched the Forum for any solution and nothing, i have tried everything to get this working. Thee old bluetooth manager that i ued to have with 2003 was much better, i could tell if i was connected to the device but here i can't do anything, Might go back and downgrade to 2003 although i like the look of WM2005.

If there is anyone that knows how to get this sorted out then pleasee can you help me?

Thanks

Just spend some more time in my car...

Conclusions :

* Nomatter what combinations of com-ports I use, will work.
* The BT-Carkit-part from the Parrot is working fine.

So the problem is the (bloody) GPS-application (read serial connection) in WM2005. Is there a possibility to switch it off or make a registry hack ? The most logical option is to install de good-old Widcomm BT-drivers (who would have tought we'd be saying THAT ?;o))

Solutions are more than welcome !

Grtz,

first you must create a new partnership in bluetooth, next create a New outgoing port (example com7) this is in bluetooth. next go to settings, system, gps, access and pick "Manage GPS automatically (recomended). in tomtom5 ghose bluetooth in com7.
good luck...

OK, a quick run through of how I got mine working with a Holux 236 BT.

Pair the BT GPS and BA
Go to start\setting\system\GPS Settings
Set GPS program port: to COM7
LEAVE GPS Hardware Port: at (None) Baud Rate 4800
Tick Manage GPS Automatically

Then in BT settings\COM Ports
Create new outgoing port at COM7
Create a new Incoming Port at COM8

Start TT5.1 and go to GPS settings and Use other Bluetooth and then try BT Port first. If that does not work try COM7 that should work.

Some BT receivers will not work on a BT Connection, for some you have to use other cable GPS at Baud 4800/9600.

Mine has been running for approx 280 miles with no problems whatsoever. re-connects in about 30 seconds when I get into the car.

Anyone found a way to install Pocketinformant yet? Although it is supposed to be WM5 compatible it refuses installation.

Aside from Pocketinformt, I also noticed problems with Commontime mNotes. It installs fine, but refuses to synchronize. Odd, since Commontime state that mNotes also is WM5 compatible.[/quote]

OhBuggerit2k2, thanks! I had the GPS working! :D Unfortunately it went away again when I did a soft reset. But there's another post here that points to athread at the Himalaya forum that deals with it, so it seems this is a common WM5 problem with a redy made solution there. Anyway, thanks again for your help!

Edit: Finally fount it! In the GPS settings in WM5's GPS Settings i set GPS Program Port and GPS Hardware Port to none, and I remove the tick on Manage GPS Automatically. Then, on Bluetooth I have 8 as incoming port and 6 as outgoing port for the Holux. Finally, opening TomTom's GPS settings I choose "Ohter Bluetooth GPS" (which incidentally has a picture of my Holux!) and choose Com6 (same port as the outgoing port under BT settings). Bingo! I'm a happy man! :D :D :D

So only three problems left: MMS (big for my wife, not me), and WLAN and BlueTooth turning themselves off when the unit suspends.

Umm.. Errr.... I Cannot Change Themes!!!

Anyone has the same problem?

When I try a different theme, it never loads, whatever program I use, however way I use to load the theme... not even the default internal themes.

-----

Update : found this in editorial :

It seems the file format for Pocket PC Today Themes has changed: we tried a selection of our favorite extended Windows Mobile 2003 SE themes, and the color palette changed but the background image did not. You can still assign the JPEG of your choice as the background image for the Today Screen as a consolation.

---

Unfortunately on my PDA it does not even change the colour palette.

There is a second default theme called bubble*.* something , it used to change the theme to violet.. Now it doesn't work anymore.. anyone with the same problem?

I have all themes working, also the Spb extended ones. I think this, like many of the problems reported, are because of third party software that isn't compatible more than problems with WM5 itself.

WIZ,

I had no problems with installing the latest WM5 version from WEBIS website. I deleted all the sub-directories on my storage card before I installed it. This just meant that I had to re-create my settings and colors. I am not sure about the notes because I was able to sync what I had in Outlook 2003.

PI on WM5 works just fine for me. Make sure that you are using Build 414 which AKac updated last week. There are some some bugs but Akac has been fixing them if you report it on the PI beta builds page.

Re SPB Themes, I am using the extended themes without a problem. You may need to de-install what you have and clean up the registry because WM5 seems to have left de-installed software lines as orphans in the registry.

Ran Cab and installed, clicked Cancel on restart, powered device down, waited 30sec, soft reset.

I have also installed the button fix Cab too.

When I press my Camera button, it starts Windows Media Player 10 instead.

I can see the following files under \Windows folder...

Camera 588K
Camera 28B
Camera_Detect 11K
Camera_Detect 31B

Which ones should I be using?

Yes it does - just put your mp3 ring tone in Windows/Rings and you can have your own mp3 personal Ring tone along with your photo.

Also, I suggest that you resize your photo's to be as small as possiable. I was using my standard jpg of my wife which had a size of 600kb. Then I resized it down to 27kb. Before with the larger photo my phone would delay the ring/photo about 5 seconds and the first ring would be the phones Default ring tone. Once I started to use the much smaller photo this delay went mostly away. The first ring is still sometimes the default but only for a very short period.

No you should not. From your post it seem you do not know where to assign your photo [and personal ring tone].

1. Tap On Contacts
2. Once your Contacts are listed tap on one in the list.
3. Once the mini-details come up Tab on the Contact Name at the very top [under the Start Bar].
4. Here you will see a boat load of information you can set. Picture is just under the Contact Name. Personal Ring Tone is 11 lines down [just under Moblie tel: line].

Hi there,

I have notice that the XDAIIs (WM 5.0) does not disconnect after its sync via the USB. I'm using the ActiveSync 4.1.0 (Build:4728)

It will still display as connected via USB even after being removed from the cradle.

Only a Soft reset will help to restore it to the correct connection state.
