Hi all,

May i say first of all what an amazing job with WM5 on the XDAII. Love it! all works as expected. Thing is i can't get MS Voice command to install. I install 1.0 and i can a warning that i need to install it in main memory. So i select device. I then upgrade to 1.5 which requires you to unistall 1.0 from your PPC. I select MS voice command from the add remove programs but i get an error and the app won't completely uninstall. There fore i can't install 1.5 AAAAAHHHH. I love WM5 but i use MS Voice all the time. Anyone any thoughts ?????

check your windows folder to see if you have a VoiceCommand.unload (not sure of exact filename) file, and try moving it to a backup folder.
Check your registry for old voice command installation entries and backup and remove them.
Then install 1.5

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20727&highlight=voice+commander+2005

on the top of my head i would say
change the .exe to zip and copy out the cab file and transfer it to your device and run it from there from the 1.5 versions mind you

Thanks guys, having had a good look around the forum it would appear that you cannot install 1.5 becuase you can't fully uninstall 1.0. :( :(

Have you tried removing registry entries and the .unload file?
If windows doesn't know that VC is already installed, it shouldn't complain.

This was also my problem 2 months ago. What I did was to install MSVC 1.0 then I upgraded to 1.5. This 1.5 was installed to XDA 2 2003 SE. Then I upgraded my active sync. to 4.1 and upgraded my Device OS to WM5.0 v 1.60C. After a successful upgrade I place my XDA 2 in the craddle and using the pop up window of Active sync 4.1 I pressed Tools > Add Remove Program check the box under VC 1.5 then check device for installation, installed in device and there I get the VC 1.5.

In my case there is no need to down grade since I have two xda units.

Griffy wiffy, in your case you must downgrade or you can't get away with the error.

Another way is to check and remove all VC 1.0 in both Desk top and device by using this:

Device : START > SETTINGS > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS
Desktop: START > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS

Make sure you already upgraded your VC 1.5 in the desktop before removing VC 1.0

Good Luck

After several tries, I also managed to successfully install VC. I can't remember the exact steps, but basically you have to first install VC 1.0 on both the PC and the PPC, then remove the VC 1.0 from the PPC, and upgrade to VC 1.5.

Maybe this will help: after installing VC 1.0, kill the activesync connection (uncradle/unplug the device). Then uninstall 1.0. Cradle the device again, and upgrade to 1.5.

I discovered that the announcing call was very quiet. So I turned it off because it was muting my ringing tone as well, and I'd end up missing calls.

Then I discovered how to increase the volume!! :D :D :D

Edit the following registry:

HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\VoiceCommand1\

change AttenuationCategory from 3 to 1

Good Luck! 8)

I have been able to install VC with no problem at all but I have found that for me is actually slows the whole system down. I have tried it from several fresh installs and it is consistant across the board.

I am probably bleary eyed after reading to many posts today, but I am unable to find your registry : HKCU ? Where is it hiding? I have a reg. editor, but cannot fine the location you mentioned as I want to increase my volume.
Thanks
