I've managed a new ramdisk for ours Himalaya under wm2005
Usage :
put the cab on your himalaya and run it
soft-reset
A new folder named "Storage" appears , this is the ramdisk .
You can install program or store datas(photo,notes,...) on it
On every soft-reset , all datas and programs are here :)
On hard-reset :
if "CleanRegistryValue" and "FormatStorage" are NO :
all datas and programs are here :)
if "CleanRegistryValue" and "FormatStorage" are YES :
the "Storage" folder don't apper anymore ....
BUT :
If you reinstall the ramdisk and soft-reset , "Storage" folder reappers and .... tadadaaaaam ... all datas are here !!!!!!!
program are here too but anable to function because some modules of them and links are not here because storage formatted ...
This ramdisk has only tested with Himalaya under 1.60c
Test-it and tell me if you like it :)

Hi...
Nice work TofClock....thanx a lot :)
But if it's ramdisk, this means storing on RAMs,and RAMs are not persistent memory,so how comes data remains there after formatting storage!!!! :?
I guess that somehow(not sure!!),we are having like 96MB lets say of persistant memory(asuming that 32MB persistant of extrom+DOC,and 64 RAM disk)....it's not logic,but if it's true,then......GREAT :D
thanx again bro....

I can find neither "CleanRegistryValue" nor "FormatStorage" in the registry
It is not in the registry.
You need to make a hardreset your device, like this:
*****
Press ResetButton and hold down CameraButton + RecordButton.
Hold them pressed until the "Boot Options" menu appears on the screen.
Select the options as follows:
(for selecting use RecordButton, change values with CameraButton)
Enable KITL -> NO
Clean Registry Hive -> YES
Format Storage -> YES
When done, press DPad and wait until OS starts.

Thanks Sascha for the clarification. In the meanwhile I was able to have my ramdisk 8)
I found it by chance: I installed (for the 10th-20th time...) , was called on the other phone so left my device on the desk. It turned off itself,so when I got it in my hands I made the soft reset ... and the ramdisk was there after the soft reset.
As I like to be sure of what is the reason for things I wanted to double check.
I hard resetted again, installed the ramdisk and softresetted without turning off first; no chance again, no matter how many times I tried.
Hard resetted again, installed ramdisk, turned the device off and then softresetted. The ramdisk was there again.
So it was not by chance, the trick for me is to turn the device off before softresetting
Maybe some of the coding/WM gurus can explain why [some sort of data caching...?] but this are the facts. :P
Hope this can help somebody else.

HI guys, if this really works, then it is very usefull. I have 2 questions (maybe stupid questions, because I am not that technical)
1) Is this ramdisk affected by the buzz tools (hima_doc_tool and hima_doc_restore)
2) I guess if you have 96 mb of new ram memory (or 32, 64) this memory has to come fom somewhere, where you have less memory?
thx

This ramdisk driver is a very old story... well it was available before the full RAM on WM5... actually it was "the beginning" :o)
Read the whole RAMDisk story here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=20312).
RAMDisk is not affected by DOC Tools at all.
If you ask, where is the memory coming from, the answer is easy.
On Himalaya there is 128Mb RAM and 32Mb of DOC.
If you have flashed OS patched for less memory (e.g. 96/64/32), then do the simple math...
128 - 96 = 32 available to ramdisk
128 - 64 = 64 available to ramdisk
128 - 32 = 96 available to ramdisk
Of course you dont have to patch the OS for less memory, but then, once you fill the memory up to the address, where ramdisk starts, your device will hang. And if you don't patch, RAMDisk will not keep it's data across reboots.
DOC is originaly partitioned as 16Mb ExtROM and 14Mb Storage.
FAT0 on DOC is ExtROM and FAT1 is Storage. It is hardcoded in the OS, that it uses FAT1 for Storage.
DOC Tools are just resizing ExtROM(FAT0) to minimum, thus OS can use the rest(FAT1) of the DOC as Storage.

Thanks..
I've done it.. WM2005 is great.. but I need the PIM software that can be used with WM2005. I've tried Pocket Informant & Agenda Fusion, both are not compatible with WM2005.
Is there any fix or any PIM compatible with WM2005? Anybody have any idea?
Thanks..

Try pocketbreeze from www.sbsh.net
It is not exactly a PIM sw, but a PIM "displayer", and much more. I use it daily with the default calendar and tasks sw and it is great. It has so many features that many users stopped using PI or AF, but it offers full integration with both of them.
The last beta is already wm5 compatible. :D

I remember from sbsh's forum that all the buyers after August 1st will be eligible for a free 5.0 upgrade, so I would seriously think about it :D

Hi all,
firstly, Thanx a lot to Buzz for the lovely WM5 flashing resource!
I had installed 1.60b previously and uninstalled it later to go back to WM2003se coz i badly need INTELLIDIALER for my everyday dialing, and wm5.0 didnt support it. nor did it support any of the intelli dialing softwares like Fingerclix.
Now could u all please tell me if INTELLIDIALER (the one that comes with 2m2003se) will work with WM5.0 ? if not, will FingerClix work? if not, is there any other intelli dialing software that is compatible with the wm5.0?
Secondly, i would like to know for general usage, which is the best rom to go for? i need the system to be fast, and i can do with the mydocs data going away on hard resets, so which rom would u suggest for me.
THANX a lot in advance!

Hi guyz,,,
I am still very confused with the 96/64/32 thingy!
now as per my understanding, by default we have
128 MB ram = 64MB Storage, 64MB Program Memory.
14.x MB PERMANENT STORAGE Memory.
Now the 1.60c.64 will give me the similar setup as mentioned above???
if i put 64MB as RAMDISK, then how much of Program Memory do i have?
Currently, in my xda2, i am using only around 30-35MB of storage memory at any given time, coz i dont have any big files to store on the harddisk, i keep them in the storage card.
so for my usage, which is the best option?
trust me, i am very very confused! :D

Yes, except you could get 30 MB persistent storage instead of 14 by using DOC tool.
You can install applications in persistent storage (will survive even complete power drain) and in storage/RAM disk (will survive soft-reset but not power drain, i.e. battery change/discharge).

@ SABO, thanx a lot for ur reply, that helps me a lot. so it means that the RAMDISK is not PERSISTENT and it will act just like the normal storage memory, like in the wm2003se. that gets deleted if power drains. ???
@ Everyone: please someone help me with the Intelli dialing thing. coz without that, i cant shift to wm5. :(

so it means that the RAMDISK is not PERSISTENT and it will act just like the normal storage memory, like in the wm2003se.
That is correct.
It acts like the device memory (RAM) which was split into program and storage.

This looks very promising, although I must admit I'm still a little confused about all the differents part of memory that become available this way. :(
First I flashed the WM2K5.0 1.6c-rom and synched my contacts. Everything A-Ok.
After reading this thread, I flashed the WM2K5.0 1.6c.64-rom, installed the PostInstallFixes and RamDisk_64.
So far, so good, everything that should be there is there.
I was kind of amazed that after all this flashing and hard-resetting, my contact were still available! :P
But can somebody please explain in detail what the best way is to use all this memory?
Where do I put my files? Where do I install programs?
I'm kind of lost in all the different sorts of memory.
Thanx

All files you do not want to lose go to device (persistant storage)
Other files can be stored in storage/ram disk but get lost when battery runs out of power
You should always backup your important data
