Try to install the .cab file instead, it should work.

thanks but I have tried that. 3 of the 4 CAB files install but the main one (ttn.cab) - looks like its going to install ok and then you get "the file....installation was unsuccesful".

Any ideas?

Nothing on the TT site - I'm surprised that X51v or other early Windows Mobile 5 users have not been onto this one?

It seems like a problem with Activesync 4.0 initially but as the cab files don't work i guess we need a patch from them?

anyone got it working?

thanks

I had the same problem with the auto run procedure on my mini SD card.

I solved the problem by navigating to the '2577' folder and running each cab file directly on the phone (didnt use activesync). This seemed to work for me.

However, now Im having trouble with bluetooth com ports. Tomtom configuration does not show the port numbers assigned to my paired gps reciever.

Try this

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29282&highlight=tt5+kjam+qtek+wm5

Let me know how well tt5 runs on the k-jam ie how smooth etc as i'm awaiting my miniSD so can't try it yet!

TomTom Navigator 5.10 works with Windows Mobile 5 and Activesync 4 - but it's NOT easy. The instructions in this thread got it working for me (though I used COM4 instead of COM0):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386
Also I found that the bluetooth GPS had to be locked on to a signal for TomTom to see it at first - was fine after that.

Although my device is a HTC Universal, it has the same OS and Activesync version as your Wizard so there's no reason why it shouldn't work. Go to the above link and enjoy

I had the same problem. All cabs would install except the ttn cab. Here's how I solved it.

1. uninstall everything
2. install gps.cab
3. remove sd card and soft reset (this is the important bit)
4. install ttn.cab and this time it should work

Thanks for your help guys.

sl9; How did you get 5.1 to upgrade? After copying the files from the downloaded RAR file I tried to run the setup.exe file on the phone but get a message telling me that the file is not a valid windows mobile program (perhaps it is a smartphone program).

The setup.exe is meant to be run on your PC, it uses activesync. Obviously we know this doesn't work so the solution is to get the 5.10 upgrade from TomTom website as the ZIP FILE, NOT THE EXE - this is important :)
Anyway, extract the zip, and copy the directory with the 4 cab files in it to your SD card (where you have the map on). Then execute the cabs one by one, using the tip by jdee246 above if any of the cabs don't want to install.
After you install it, then the fun begins trying to get the damn thing to recognise your GPS device, see the link in my earlier post for a guide :)

Thanks guys - the soft reset seemed to do it. The manual install worked fine in the end.
I now have to wait for TomTom support to give me a code as I already had two a few months back so I can't report on how well it runs yet. Overall tho the Wizard/k-Jam is pretty slow - esp for screen refreshes.

I did try the BAKONL hack which I use to test TomTom on various devices but the ttn.cab on that patch just will not install for me under Win Mob 5.

Thanks to all for your help.

Managed to get Tomtom 5.1 up and running. 5.1 seems to have fixed the gps connectivity problem.

The software runs on the K-JAM just as fast as it did on my QtekS110, with no problems yet.

In total you have to copy 4 files from your wm2003 device and paste to wm2005 in these dir:

mobile device\tomtom\CurrentMap.dat
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.bmp (voice files on cd)
\TomTom\TomTom\data05.chk (voice files on cd
\Program Files\navigator\data.chk
\Program Files\navigator\tomtom navigator.exe
\Program Files\navigator\navigator.cfg

that's all.
data05.bmp and .chk is for example, you can choose one of your own voices.

Look this up on your device other wise i send you my files so you can try them.

Good Luck

Hi Guys

I seem to also be having problems with my MDA.

I can install tom-tom just fine, but for some reason it just doesnt recognise my Bluetooth GPS receiver. The receiver brand & model is as per this page:

http://www.qstarz.com/html/products_BT-Q770.htm

I have enabled COM 4 & 5 in the bluetooth settings page and configred tomtom to connect using either com4 or com5 but it just doesnt work.

Any help in solving this problem would be much appreciated!

Many Thanks!

This is what i did to get my Tomtom working on my T-mobile MDA Compact:

1. uninstall tomtom using add/remove programs.
2. using file explorer deleted the following folders:
\tomtom
\program files\navigator
\program files\contacts navigation
3. Using a registry editor - browse the software sub-folders of HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and delete any tomtom, tomtom navigator, and/or tomtom gps/ tomtom bluetooth supprt folders.
(in order to avoid steps 1,2,3 you can also perform a hard reset after you have backed up all your data & files)
4. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> DRIVERS -> BUILTIN -> BTINSerial

5. Now change the index key from 4 to 6.
6. Exit the registry editor.
7. Soft reset your MDA.
8. Now install TTN5
9. After following the initial setup prompts of TTN5 exit it.
10. Now install tomtom nav. 5.1 (update available from the tomtom website)
11. Go back into tomtom and select "change preferences"
12. Go into GPS CONFIGURATION
13. Select Other Bluetooth
14. Select COM5
15. Click Done
16. Give tomtom about 10 seconds and your GPS navigation should now work OK!!!!

Hope this helps everyone who is trying to get this to work. I have spent a lot of time trying to find a solution that works and this i feel is it!

Needless to say use this solution at your own risk - all i can say is that its worked for me!

Tried installing TT5.0 on my Vario, but no luck. Like posted before, it won't install ttn.CAB. I tried:
removing all TT files, also from registry
soft reset,
installing gps.CAB,
remove SD,
soft reset,
then install ttn.CAB

but it still says 'installation failed'. Aaarrrggghhhhh

Any ideas, anyone?

by the way, the CurrentMap.dat doesn't fix the problem.

Thank you

People that cannot install 5.0 first, also cannot install the 5.21 update, so your solution does not help much.

However.... I found the workaround! Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=35587

the 5.21 version is the update for WM5 devises

you must chance the tomtom navigator.exe from my file with the original one after you install the 5.21 update from the tomtom homepage.
and put the map file in your storage card ... thats all its works 100% do not try to install that 5.0 version again .. no good !!

here is Another update TomTom Navigator 5.21

TomTom is definetely not working on the Wizard/ my MDA Vario.

I installed it.. (Version 5.21). I was able configure everything.. Voices.. and after that you have to choose the map. If I click on the "Germany-Map" it freezes. No matter what I do! :-(

I allready found some more Boards where People are reporting that they have Problems with it!

Does Navigon works? :?:

Hello Maresch,

i have TomTom5 v5.1 and v5.21 running on MDA Vario and XDA Mini S

It works. The install is not easy, try and error, i need about 6 hours, i have read many boards and this text helps me: (i have it from howard forum)

STEP 1 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
You do this by copying the CAB files from the CDROM (eg F:\PocketPC) to the K-JAM and launch one by one from there with the explorer of the K-JAM
.
You can install voices the same manner by copying the CAB files to the K-JAM (eg from F:\Voice on the CDROM)

STEP 2 : UPGRADE TO V5.1
EDIT: Please use the tomtom official site to obtain the update here

STEP 3 : ACTIVATE THE GPS CONTROL PANEL
Fire up a registry editor (eg http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/phmregistryeditor.shtml )
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings
Delete the DWORD marked "hide"
Add a DWORD called "Group" and give it the value of "2" (dec)
The GPS panel will now show up in your connection settings.

Install:

1: GPS.cab
2: TomTom.cab

STEP 4 : INSTALL TOMTOM5
1. Establish a bond with your GPS and select the checkbox for serial access.
2. In BT, select the OUTGOING port to 6.
3. In the GPS control panel, select the GPS program to 0 and make sure that the hardware one, is set to None.
4. Start TT5 and the GPS settings, select another bluetooth GPS, and you will see COM 0 free. Select COM 0 and close TT5.
5. At the GPS control panel again, now select COM 6 (before we set it up at 0).
6. At BT: select OUTGOING port to WHATEVER NUMBER IS AVAILABLE EXCEPT 6.
7. Back again to GPS control panel and select NONE.
8. Finally start TT5 and CHANGE GPS BT PORT SETTINGS TO WHATEVER NUMBER YOU CHOSE IN STEP 6
9. it should connect automatically. Wait for a couple of seconds and click the GPS settings and you should see it has connected.

Guys I installed tomtom navigator 5.21 in minutes!!

DO NOT INSTALL version 5.0 first. If you did... uninstall everting!!

Steps you should take after you have uninstalled version 5.0

1) download the full cd/dvd somewhere to your computer
2) download the following v5.21 upgrade incl. crack
http://rapidshare.de/files/8475711/TomTom_Navigator_update_V.5.21_cracked.rar.html
3) Unzip the files to the folder in which you saved the Tomtom v5.0 cd. When you unzip to this folder it will ask if you want to replace the files... argee to all
4) Run the just unzipped setup.exe and follow the instructions (make sure the wizard is connected with active sync)
5) after the install is complete go to the folder in which you unziped the files at step 3. enter the Crack folder and replace the file TomTom Navigator.exe on your device with the crack version.
6) enjoy the ride and install more maps etc if you need! This worked great on my device!!

Good Luck!!

After that replaced the exe with the cracked.

Now I have a "No maps found!" when I launch Tomtom Navigator 5.2... in my documents\tomtom I've copy my old currentmap.dat but without good result...

Could you help me please...

Something strange... I put the Canary_Islands-map I have, it's ok... but I cannot use my Switzerland maps which works with tomtom 3 and tomtom 5.0. Need I to find a new version of Switzerland map ?

It looks very strange this is the 562 version, the same version as the Canary island... is it possible that the path of this map need to change from one version to another ?

Hi!

@ferritt: Just try the following method - it worked for me.

1. Just install ONLY the 5.21 Upgrade via the PC-Installer.

2. Copy the voice.cab to your Wizard. Execute the .cab on the Wizard to install the voice.dat properly.

3. Move the maps to your MiniSD (best through cardreader).

Start TomTom. Activate it (or apply the patched exe before starting).

That should do the trick.

(If this doesn't work try to apply the following "old" cabs from 5.0 or 5.1 too: tomtom.cab, gps.cab, wzd.cab, PIMAddIn.cab).

Hi!

Hmmm. I really don't understand what's going wrong there. Maybe you should do a hardreset before you try "my way".

I really don't know why it works with me but not with you(r device).

Maybe you crippled your machine somehow or you're using some kind of "strange software".

Read the bit about currentmap.dat

it'll automatically select the map for you, and should run ok. I've installed several times now (from hard-resets for playing about too much!) and now have a zip file on my sd card (cabs delete themselves if not inside a zip) Run from the PDA in this order (might work in any order - who knows!)

GPS.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Bluetooth COM port
PIMAddIn.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Outlook contacts
WZD.CAB - the Today plug-in (completely optional)
TTN.CAB - the actual application and data files
VOICE05 - Jane UK voice file

I also have a copy of "currentmap.dat" to place in \my documents\tomtom\

And the map folder i use (UK)

if you were to use a cracked version (naughty naughty) the process would be exactly the same, just replace the tomtom file with your "other" file

In another forum, I forgot where exactly, I found a description, how to get TomTom5 work on a MDA Vario / QTEK9100.
I tried out everything posted here in the forum and nothing worked well. When adding a card to TomTom, it always hangs up.

Now with the following instructions it works all well!
1 Download the latest version of the TomTom Navigator from their website.
2 Install the map files onto your SD card. It should be placed right at the root, and will have a path \Storage Card\XXXXX_map. (xxxxx= your map e.g. Great-Britain)
3. Pair your receiver.
4. Insert the card, and use file explorer to explore the card
5. Install all the CAB files in the following order:
GPS.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Bluetooth COM port
PIMAddIn.CAB - the conduit between TomTom and your Outlook contacts
WZD.CAB - the Today plug-in (completely optional)
TTN.CAB - the actual application and data files

If you are having any issues with installing any of the CAB files, try soft-resetting and install the same CAB file again.

6. On your desktop, launch Notepad.
7. Type & \Storage Card\XXXXXX_map\ (don't forget to add the final back slash and have a space between the "&" and the first backslash.
8. Save the file as CurrentMap.dat. Make sure it doesn't end up as CurrentMap.dat.txt!
9. Create a folder on your KJam \My Documents\TomTom.
10. Copy your newly created CurrentMap.dat file from your desktop into \My Documents\TomTom on your iPaq .
11. Create a folder on your KJam called \TomTom\TomTom. Copy your voice files into that folder.
Now soft- reset.
12. Launch TomTom Navigator.
13. Follow instructions.
14. Activate your map.

Try it out and tell me if it works everywhere

Micha

PS: If anybody has an German ROM for me, tell me too ;-)

Beeble
28-12-2005, 05:59 PM
for voice files - the easy way... (well i think so!)

Check your "remove software" list on your PDA. remove any tomtom voice files (voiceXX)

Soft reset

Copy the cab file for the voice you want (05 is UK jane, not sure of the others, think they are in the same order as the install cd lists them) to the pda

Zip the cab file (if you want to keep a copy on the pda - skip if not)

run the cab - make sure it installs sucessfully

Open tomtom, go into the options, change the voice, the one(s) installed should now be in colour (the ones not installed will be grey). Select your voice, "ok" out. reset if needed.

If you still cant get the voice file to work, try using a different one - its possible you have a corruped file although it is unlikely

4. installed cab file to device
5. ran tomtom but when i got top the voice selection screen all voices are greyed out and say install via cd-rom.

the voice cabs that i'm trying to use are from my tomtom 5 that i've had for ages. The tomtom that i've actualy installed on my device came with .chk voice files???? Any ideas?

try copying the voice-files to \TomTom\TomTom\
that should work well

I have a legit DVD copy of TT5 and a pirate copy downloaded from the web.

After about four hours P*ssing around as suggested in this thread i can get the legit copy working.

The pirate copy has about 8 folders, 4 cab files and a cracked EXE that you copy two the MiniSD card.

Installs and works in about 10 minutes!!!

Hi,

After spending tenth of hours trying to have TT5 working on my VPA compact II (vodaphone DE) paired with my royaltek RBT-2001 bluetooth receiver, I came up with an interesting solution for fixing the dawn 'no GPS found problem' ... for those facing that problem it may be helpful, here's what I did:

- installed TT5 (lots of resources for doing that with 5.21 update) along with a map and voice
- paired my BT GPS and added a port .. for me was port 6, but any port proposed by default should do
- the BIG issue is that usually, TT does not propose the port your BT GPS uses ... enabling the GPS panel and playing with it for mapping ports (I did it for hours ...) did not help, I finally fixed that through editing on the PC the tomtom.cfg file (WITH AN HEX EDITOR, important, that's no ASCII file) as of described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386, credits to parw ! I then simply looked for the PORTx string, where x is the port number TT was last configured with. I replaced x with 6 (or the port your BT GPS uses) and launched TT again, it then recognized the GPS within seconds.

Mind that it seems your GPS needs to have a fix in order to be recognized by TT ...

Hope it helps,

After installing latest update 5.21 from TomTom web site onto my XDA Exeac without a problem, I (re)activated the maps for the new device which were already installed on my SD card from my XDA2.
The only thing I don't have is voices. Does anyone know the procedure just to install voices as the install CD doesn't work for WM2005 as we know.

I tried some of the procedures mentioned above, but there are only three files in the TomTom directory on my XDA2 :
go1108m
ttdoday
ttodayvga

and three in the Navigator directory
data
navigator
TomTom Navigator

How and where can I install voices without harming the rest of the installation?
Many thanks
Geoff

Well - 10 minutes later I worked it out! Just copied the CAB file off the CD to the device and pasted it into the Navigator directory. Installs from there no problem.

Good Luck!!

I followed the instration all went well, however, I get a message on the GPS screen (in TomTom5) NO VALID GPS Signal and on TomTom main screen I get The GPS signal was lost x.xx min. ago.

I am going crazy help..

If your getting the message "The GPS signal was lost xxx mins ago" then your GPS receiver is connected to your device and being seen by TomTom however the receiver itself isn't picking up a GPS signal. try a cold restart of the receiver

i installed tt5 5.21 with relative ease, this is how it worked for me

-made sure all previous tt files were deleted
-get the original tomtom 5.0 and the 5.21 update
-installed the 5.21 update first
-moved the required map folder from the original 5.0 into mem card
-create a new folder in /tomtom (it becomes /tomtom/tomtom) wherein place two files from the voices folder from the original 5.0 (data05.chk and data05.vif).
-move over the cracked TomTom Navigator.exe from the 5.21 if your that way inclined
-do a soft reset
-start up tomtom5 and everything should be a breeze. it does sometimes freeze after voice selection but make sure active sync is not connected and wait a few min, keep trying and eventually it will work.

most gps devices will work if you go to prefrences>gps status>configure and choose 'other nmea GPS'

I have TT 5.21 running on my MiniS with no real problems. Installed by using the original TT SD card (v5.00) and tapped on each cab file to load. Once loaded soft reset and upgdraded the .exe file to 5.21 from the TT web site, used automatic registration and away it went. Found the GPRS receiver first time and seems pretty reliable.

I have noticed however the performance is very much dependant on the mini SD card you choose. I copied the files and voices etc to a TwnMOS 512MB card and it runs really smoothly, no jerkiness on the maps and quite fast. Last week i purchased a Pretec 2GB card, (mobilefun.com), and the performance took a turn for the worst, maps are really jerky and slow to update, POIs are slow to appear and the maps seem quite a way behind where you are in real life!

Needing a larger card I then ordered the 2 GB card from "mobymemory.com", this arrived the next day and is really good, TT performance restored and at the price of Ģ88 of your English pounds its a bargain!

I have also notcied similar issues when running TT on my Tornado device so would be interested in other views / opinions.

Got 5.21 working great with my Tmobile Vario, although I need to delete and reconnect the BTGPS every time I power it up. Is there any way of sorting this.

Also has anyone got a link to French or Western European maps to download (COUGH) as Im going on a short trip?

Thanks.

Euro maps: try doing a google search for Bit Torrent or eMule and try on either of those.

Maps not being found: i'm gonna assume you have the GB map on your SD card already? ie /storage card/Great_Britian-map the other maps should follow the same format and be in the same place (not inside the GB map folder) - sorry if this is teaching you to suck eggs!

BT/GPS problem: it does work either way, but do you turn on the BT and the GPS mouse before loading TT? If I open TT too soon or before turning everything on I get the message about not finding a gps. just wait you should soon (30 secs or so) get the message change to something like the gps signal was lost X secs ago - this is ok and the receiver is just downloading the almanack code from the sat.

hope these help & pls excuse typo's, written on my Wizard :-)

OK, try changing your "currentmap.dat" file - see here for info:
http://www.expansys.fr/forumthread.asp?code=125518&thread=58

Make a backup of it first just in case! Not 100% sure how it'll react, but at the least you should be able to get all the maps working on their own by changing the dat file, and maybe once its changed it'll let you change them inside TT itself.
BTW TTN5 maps are fine with 5.21 (or any 5.XX) - the new version of TT is to fix bugs and allow WM5 compatability.

Normally Tomtom must work with every map.
But knowing my legal buying tomtom version, every map is protected with activitation code. You cannot start the map immediately.

And what is the reason to use cracked Tomtom?
Tomtom people don't sitting behind computers and only programmed on lazy asses. They have also people who travels through the countries to check the new location by himself. That means also fuel and car costs.
Checking if Tomtom is working good, they must drive it by himself.

No kidding, even the money of Tomtom is perhaps little high for some people.

To clarify: If you install version 5.0 of TomTom then you can see the USA maps and you will be prompted for an activation code. That's fine.

If yuo install version 5.21 you will no longer be able to see the USA maps.

There's nothing in there about software piracy or using a cracked version. I wanted the USA maps to say, "You need an activation code" or whatever and the maps were not visible to the application.

I used the instructions here (and via links from here) and it works just fine for me. Voices work, bluetooth dialling works (mutes the TomTom sound and unmutes it after the call).

I just installed the CABs and copied the voice folders.

I am running the O2 version of the Wizard in Basic mode and I installed TT v5.21 (CABs) directly onto the Mini SD card.

The only niggle I have is that TomTom autostarts when I rest (sometimes).

I have the same problem, I can see benelux and Italy, but cannot see other maps after upgrading to 5.21. does not matter current map file and version of the maps. The easiest way for me to get the maps to work was to find where they were on the CD. That is, not to use the auto-run but to open the CD as a data disc go and find the file for the map I needed and then copy the map file to my memory card. I also did not use active sync to copy the map, I used a card reader and Tomtom found the map now if if I could figure out how to get sound....

After using an older version of iGuidance for a year, I bought TomTom Navigator 5.1. It installed onto my Wizard from my laptop using Activesync 4.1 without any problems. I then upgraded it to 5.21, also without any problems.

However, after doing so, I decided to purchase iGuidance 2.1.3 because I find iGuidance more intuitive and effective for my use.

I found that TomTom doesn't accurately list all cities. For example, the City of Industry in California is not even listed! Also, I cannot set the map to have north always pointing up. Additionally, street name don't pop up on surrounding streets, and map groups have to be activated! I do like the live traffic feature on TomTom though. That part's pretty cool

Troubled man with a Qtek 9100....

I have tried everything that is suggested in this thread, but without success.

I think that my installation runs smooth, but when I try to start TomTom the program aks me to choose map, but the thing is that I donīt have any maps to choose from. Even though there are maps installed on my sdcard.

I have the scandinavian maps installed om my SD-card. Iīve tried with the "currentmap.dat" solution, but I cant make it work.

I see that there are others who had the same problem, could someone please tell me who you made it work? How to get by that stupid stupid map-choice screen...!?

For what it's worth... I just bought TT5 and installed out of the box, patched to v5.21 and was up and running no problems. After reading through all of the problems and fixes people had indicated, I noticed that the version of TT software that shipped with my device was v5.1

I also noticed that the v5.21 update (www.tomtom.com/update) was dated November 2005 and was listed as 'for WM5' . Since it's now June 2006, I figured that ver5.1 took some of the problems people had into consideration so here is what I did.

Details: T-Mobile MDA (USA)

I loaded the CD software that came with TT5 (ver 5.1), then when that was completed, I ran the .exe for the update to 5.21 (tomtom.com/update), installed my map and bam.

The thing worked as advertised.
