I notice a lot of you seem to have GPS up and running on jasjar.

I had tottom running on my xda2 with backpack and CF GPS receiver, but as I could not use the CF GPS with JJ, I sold it with my xda along with my car cradle which was a window mount and I am hoping to find/install something a little sturdier (worried about the weight).

So please give me some ideas on a GPS receiver working with JJ and any thoughts on car cradles.

Cheers, Numb

Your best bet would be to purchase a Bluetooth GPS receiver. There are plenty of them going around but the best one imo is the HOLUX GPSlim-236. It is based on the SIRFstar III chip which means it picks up more satellites and has a better connectivity. There are other SIRFstar III compliant BT GPS like Globalsat and the likes but the GPSlim-236 is the smallest and the lightest.

Regarding cradles for the JJ, there are many options again, but since it is rather "weighty", i suggest you buy a cradle that can be stuck or screwed onto your dashboard. I have seen the Dicota cradle which has this option and is pretty cheap too, about 15 quid if i am not mistaken.

Have fun searching!

Actually, there are probably less than one might think. The HTC Universal has it's USB/Power connector on it's SIDE, which is where the left "arm" of most cradles grip onto it. This means you're going to have issues powering the device from the car cigarette ligher socket. I'm looking for a cradle at the moment with "arms" that are quite high up... :(

Oh right! I completely forgot about that. My bad! I guess we will just haveta wait and see. Maybe you can email Arkon or Dicota and see if they can come up with something.

I emailed Brodit (www.brodit.com) a few days ago and got a reply saying the will have powered mounts available at the end of the month

TT BT GPS works fine

You can use it with Arkon support, I did, you just have to put the power cord side up.

But if you rotated the JJ 90degrees so the usb connector is at the bottom that orientation would be nice to drop/slot into a dash mounted, basestation, that above the steeringwheel would be below my windscreen and be quite tasty for TT5, only issue then would be landscape map, which imo is slightly less revealing for the road ahead.

It could simply be velcro attached onto the dash reducing mounting issues, and you can easily make it cableless by making a hole in the dash underneath for the cable to pass through before arriving at the ciggly socket.

The destinator 3 with Globalsat BT 338 bluetooth gps receiver works well with the jasjar.....as for the cradle i bought mine from ebay and modified the two arms that olds the jasjar in place so it sits in place safely without falling off just incase i hit a big bump on the road and suddenly jumps out....i'll post a pic soon...its also a suction type holder and does not vibrate like the other pda holders.....it works well on portrait and also when the pda is on the landscape mode as the holder is adjustable.....as for the usb port, this is exactly placed under the arms of the holder so its not obstructing at all...

I too have a Holux Slim 236 and it is very good. I would definitely recommend it.
I have not yet bought a car mount cradle for my JasJar. Until now I've been using a powered mount with built in amplified speaker for my BlueAngel from Silver Shield. I am that they will produce a similar one for the JasJar.
I think it would be brilliant if they came up with a cradle that can hold the JasJar with the flip open so you can actually use the keyboard on it with TomTom if you want to.

i had to modify part of the arms to hold the jasjar in place as per shown in the above pics..... but u can get them on ebay or on the website www.online-electronics.com.au also try looking at this other holder i came accross as it might be a little bit better..... http://www.thepocketsolution.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Session_ID=435C7DDF0003BCDB0000490A000 00000&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=PSI-5540&Category_Code=jasjar_accessories&Product_Count=7

The holder from pocketpcsolutions.com looks like side arms will cover usb socket & therefor you wont be able to charge it.

I use an Arkon powered mount, its really good because it uses stanadard USB ports to power everything, so all you need is the standard USB cable, it also has an additional output for charging almost any BT GPS adaptor.

PS it also has a built in amp and speaker

and it fits perfectly

ice_coffee,

Are you using HTC Universal with that Arcon holder? Because if I ook at the pic it looks like the side grips will cover the USB port since it is on the side of the HTC Universal

irv777,

Thanx for the links looks good, I think it is going to be one of those two.
Although on the site of Arkon http://www.arkon.com/
Look at the Car holder for PSP it is horisontal and looks pretty steady, Question is if the Universal will fit in it ?

Yes I have a universal, these pics I have uploaded should answer all your questions, I originally bought mine for my HP2110 but it fits perfectly. However if you do get one you will have to get your own standard USB sync and charge cable or wait for arcon to officially release it.

PS I forgot to mention I have a window sucker but its fine (ie it does not fall off ~ especially if the sucker is a bit wet)

Thanx mate...

I have just realised that I can also use the Landskape Left Hnaded and then all is good with my existing holder.

You just saved me aroung 25-30 Euros

Cheers
