1. latest jasjar update with patched version
2. reset and RADIO uni_radio_1_03_01 ONLY update with the patched app
3. FULL RESET with POWER+RESET

We do need first a copy of your registry :) to make the most of the keybord because neither I nor akira didn't do it.

The upgrade has 4 steps:
1. download the patched UpgradeRom exe
2. upgrade the MDA PRO with the latest JASJAR Rom - beware after this it's not usable :)
3. upgrade with the Radio only version

I have the "JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301.zip", I believe the radio-only-package is "uni_radio_1_03_01.exe", but i'm missing the "patched upgraderom.exe". :)

Please don't expect we do all know everything, because if we did, we wouldn't have asked.

I was sweating like nobodies business.

after flashing with the new jasjar-rom the complete keyboard design is different from the german layout.

It is not only the difference from "y" and "z", the complete set of chars like "- / ( ) % @" are not where the are on the german keyboard.

Editing the registry will give you a 100% correct german keyboard - all chars are where they are printed - but with the english rom.

Now if I understand it correctly, the registryhack changes the "hard" keyboard layout back to german (qwertz), i.e. you can leave the keybord as it is and you don't go ripping off keys to put them back at other places.

Does the same account for the "soft" keybord, i.e on the touchscreen? Is it in Qwerz or is this in English, Qwerty?

UPDATE:

I managed to make the update start with the active sync connected, but after a wile i disconnect the cable and now i have a permanent bootloader...if a connect to the PC it doesnt recognise the device if i run the Mtty on usb saz "can't open port"....think i messed up the operating sys...

I followed the steps (obviously with the active sync disbled):

Got and Unzipped the JASJAR_WWE_11353_137_10301.exe
Added to the same directory the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe

Sterted the update with: MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe
Get the image of the Magician --> is it right? I'm changing the rom of the universal with an updater from the Magician???

Anyhow goin forward I get the following:

Error 150 rom upgrade utility error --> this rom upgrade utility is not designed for this device.

Actually I would expect so as the file used to update was the one designed for the magician...
Did i made something wrong is the explanation on the forum somehow inprecise...
Sould i leave the activesync connected??

When you put the MAUpgradeUT in the directory where the rom's are, do not forget to delete the RomUpgradeUt. This one is the original one and must not be used.

you need to unpack all the files from the jasjar ROM. then place the patched loader into the created directory. do not delete any file. jost run the copied file.

for me it removed the T-Mobile branding, gave MSN and it has become a very stable unit.
using now:
* latest pocket plus
* latest sbsh pocket breeze
* tomtom 5.1

depends on your needs. you can be alright with the current version , also considering that in about a week we'll get new ROMs.

At the end I did it too.....!

For anyone else that want to make it...

1) Follow the instructions on this post but take care that:
1) You need to have the Actyve Sysnc 4.1 on and USB connected to allow the software update your device
2) if you get the "120_country error" just restart the update and it should work
3) do not execute the cold reset after the first update but execute the radio update as well

Talking about mapping the hardware button, I have aQ about mapping a soft button.

I want to map the left soft button to contact, now there is a post that discribes how to do that, but If i look at the default setting on my MDA PRO it is messages and the executable is \windows\HTCmessages.exe
the same exe exist for calendar called HTCcalendar.exe but I can not find the HTContacts.exe anybody any Ideas?

I have just upgraded to the JASJAR ROM. it went really smooth.

I have to say that I am now bussy setting up my device. Actually I am done besides the speed dials. Man man man... All I have to say is that the upgrade to JASJAR ROM is hte best thing that ever happened to my device since i have it. Gone are annoying t-mobile colors and customisations. I was asked which provider I have and all the settings were there. I have MSN which I must say is real nice and works perfect by me. I never used to check my hotmail before on my pocket pc because it was too much of an effort (I am an exchange user so I sync over the air) now it is symply integrated into my inbox and it is perfect. I had to install SKYPE there is a newwer version available. The version delieverd with JASJAR is 1.1.014 and first I could not see any of my contacts and I could not add any. After uninstalling it and installing the newer versien 1.1.020 (download from skype site) I saw all my contacts appear, plus I was able to install it on the storage card, thus clearing more space on the device. I have finaly the default Dialer skin which is great. All the shit from the t-mobile in internet explorer is also gone.

Before I have upgraded to the imate rom I have tried to bypass the t-mobiel ext rom install and I was succesfull in it, but still there were some customization there, for example the t-mobile operator logo was still there and the theme, yes even without installing the extended rom. Anyhow I am extremely Happy I can call my MDA PRO an iMATE!!!!

I have more program memory available it is more then 30 mb after the soft reset, while by the t-mobile rom it never came higher then 24 MB. Only thing is that when I click Programs it takes time to populate the list, maybe it has to do with the Antivirus ? Besides who needs the AV on this device.. I mean I think I am going to get rid of it.
I have now also no operator logo in the screen it just says UMTS KPN, just like it is supposed to be. And I have succesfully tested the Video Call option, It works perfect. I have used the video call function on my Nokia 6680 but this a different experience all together, much smoother...

I tried to restart my MDA Pro like you have written it... But it's not possible to get out of the bootloader menue
I've an austrian MDA Pro and I've tried to flash the original ROM with the Jasjar ROM - the problem now ist that the device is in the bootloader menue, its not possible to get out (I've tried hard- and softreset) - I did the flash process several times, but its still the same...
TheMDA isn't correctly installed on the pc - in the device manager it's shown as a unknown usb device - has anybody a idea how I could reactivate my MDA?
The actual Rom version of my device is also not shown as the Rom version which should be updatet... when I restart the update process a new window appeas, where I could see the percents of the updating, but then I always get a error message: error 150 - rom update utility error

3. reset the device (take off the battery and reinsert it)
4. plug in the USB cable
5. switch on the MDA Pro

7. run also the radio upgrade 1.03.01
8. try the reset

- if you still have the error something is weird and wrong

unfortunatelly AFAIK there is no way to unlock the Universal. Since MDA is giving the unlock for free or 99€ , O2 has unlocked versions, Jasjar is unlocked i'm not very optimistic about this one either.

it will be no problem putting any of the ROMs released for the Universal. The french keyboard is a little bit difficult. In order to match the keyboard you have now (the phisical one) we need an info from your registry.

Steps to get this info:
1. get Resco Explorer and install it with the Registry add-on
2. run Resco Registry
3. Find [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty] and post here the info.
4. After the upgrade to the english ROM do the same thing but this time change to the value you've got from your M5000.

TAKE A BRIGHT LAMP. LIGHT YOUR MDA PRO SCREEN. THERE IS SOMETHING WRITTEN THERE BUT YOU HAVE NO BACKLIGHT!!!

This is in order to confirm that you have a valid bootloader.

Then please tell me that you have disabled ALL antivirus and firewalls.

1.13.53 WWM (09/23/05) with Radio 1.04.02.

Then, I change the REG

and i soft restarted. The Hardwarekeyboard og the MDAPRO
works fine. I has changed to german function.
But the softwarekeyboard (this on on the screen) - this Keyboard still hat the english signs and it is still english. Is it possible to change this?

Have been reading through all of your responses. Very impressive.
Today i received my Qtek 9000.
It seems to be a wonderful phone and with the subscriptions vodafone has in sweden i get free calls and free downloads. Looked great.
Now to my problem.

I´ve put in all settings that vodafone provides for other ppc´s and it´s working on them.

It connects, dissapears, connects again.
And i get:

Cannot Connect:
Dialed: services.vodafone.net
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer´s documentation and try again.

I´ve downloaded these 2 files:

But my question is, i bought it at expansys, why buy qtek if i could have bought an imate instead? I mean will i now rebrand it to be an imate?
Are there no software updates from qtek?
Since this one is brand new, should i return it and get an imate instead?
I will also need to get the regfix for swedish keyboard, would be entirely greatful if it could be arranged.

I think i have a problem. After updating my rom with the o2 exec rom 113188 my MDA Pro only start in the Bootloader. Now i tried to do it the way it is written on top but the patched MaUpgradeUt_noID show me "This rom update utility does not design for your device. pleas get proper rom utility and try again." the bootloader show USB on the top of the screen. and the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe can not read the settings of the MDA Pro.

it will be no problem putting any of the ROMs released for the Universal. The french keyboard is a little bit difficult. In order to match the keyboard you have now (the phisical one) we need an info from your registry.

Steps to get this info:
1. get Resco Explorer and install it with the Registry add-on
2. run Resco Registry
3. Find [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty] and post here the info.
4. After the upgrade to the english ROM do the same thing but this time change to the value you've got from your M5000.

Hello, for those concerned with the french keyboard layout, the decimal value to use is 66572 ( hex 1040C )

As for the soft keyboard, beeing in ROM for what I could read, there is probably a location in the ROM where the key table is stored... Once located, there should be no hassle for a developper to write a small utility to retrieve a keytable from a rom and patch another one with this...

when I unplug and plug the USB port, I see the USB icon from windows xp for about 30seconds in the righttask bar... thats all! on the device Ican't see anything, there is no charging led lightening or something else appears

TAKE A BRIGHT LAMP. LIGHT YOUR MDA PRO SCREEN. THERE IS SOMETHING WRITTEN THERE BUT YOU HAVE NO BACKLIGHT!!!

This is in order to confirm that you have a valid bootloader.

Then please tell me that you have disabled ALL antivirus and firewalls.

Last ... what Activesync version you have?

My MDA pro is on after 1000 try (soft reset and hardreset) and 2 time with the MDA PRO ok in bootloader in the act the upgrade rom the mda off and upgrade no terminate normally.
