Hey guys.
ive made a simple patch for the blue angel running windows mobile 5 where we got the error connection loss after loading any more than 200kb.
The patch I have made sorts this problem and one page for example that I now know that loads and didnt used to is Ebay, and buzzdev.
Simply insert this into the registry of the blueangel,, only for Windows Mobile 5.0.
U MUST let the registry flush before reseting the device. To do this press the power button to turn device off, wait 15 secs, turn back on and then soft reset.
Cheers.

I have updated this, still seemed to throw up the error with v1.0, v1.1 seems fine 100% of the time.

OK, I feel like a bloody moron and a total newbie here! I have tried importing the regfile with PHM Registry Editor, but I can't seem to do it. Could you please tell me what you use?

Great, thanks! Maybe I can install it as well then...  I was actually wondering why eBay wouldn't load while I was looking for some stuff in bed last night, but this explains it. Does this help on the pitiful speed of loading the pages as well? I don't think eBay and IMDB were that slow to load on the WM2003SE I used before. Or were they?

speed doesnt seem to bad to be honest. id say its equally comparable to 2003se.
ill get tht cab made up now.

Thanks! But I don't know if I have done anything wrong. I try eBay's front page, and after a while I see "The page cannot be displayed og downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later." This is with WiFi. I installed the cab, turned the unit off for around 30 seconds and then soft reset it. Isn't that the way to do it with this WM5 ROM?
Edit: Sorry, I didn't get the part about turning the unit on again before the soft reset. Trying it now. (This ain't my day!)
Edit 2: Nope. Didn't work that way either. :? :(

Hmm... weird... first time I installed WM5: I had nooooooooo problmes using PIE with WiFi and "big" sites. Now, on my 2nd try with WM5 I have those problems.
I'll try the patch later and write down what's going on.

Heres another patch which is slightly updated, v1.2. It has the following changes:
1. Makes pages load faster having more connections per server.
2. The timeout time has been increased so that the page will load for longer and wait for the page to fully load before displaying the connection lost error.
3. Cache of ssl pages has been disabled.

No. Sorry. I still get the message. Also I don't feel that this version is faster than the previuos. Weird! Do you use it on GPRS or on WiFi? I never surf on anything else than WiFi, maybe that's the thing?

That's the crazy thing: first time I installed WM5 on my PH20B1 BA, I had no problems with eBay and other much bigger sites... then I went back because of the performance to WM2003SE, had there the phone problem and several others, so I switched again to WM5 and NOW I have those problems with the PIE... First time I had the v1 WM5 and now the "v3" - that's the only difference. However, I'll try out that patch.

Just loaded ebay.com with the craddle connection and didn't have any problem.. I used WiFi with other sites and never saw that problem... Tomorrow i can try loading it at a wifi connection

I'm starting to think that the problem is WiFi itself, not just surfing via WiFi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29904

Experience the same problems since v3.
IExplorer patch does not solve the issue and I suspect WLAN of draining my battery when my PDA2k is switched off...
Keep you posted.

I continue to say that i don't have any issues with wifi.
Have you tried to clear storage (hard reset) and try it?
PS: I have patch v3
Mastiff
12th October 2005, 08:29 AM
I'm gonna do a hard reset, just for the hell of it. Gonna be interesting to see what happens! Then I'll install programs one by one to see if this problem may be associated with a third party program, like Pocket Plus. That's the only program I know of that has anything to do with PIE.
Mastiff
12th October 2005, 10:56 AM
Nope. A hard reset didn't change anything. I get the connection lost message both after the hard reset with nothing installed and with the PIE patch from this thread. :(

Maybe anything with the wireless manager?
Use mine that i got from universal...

That sounds interesting! Where can I find that one?
Edit: Never mind, found your thread. I had only looked in the Wiki and the FTP first...
Edit 2: Do I put all files in the Windows directory? I know it says that if you don't know how to install it, it isn't for you, but still...

Copy the files to \windows and install the .reg
PS: it says that because it's in a really early stage

ncruz, I can't copy! I get access denied on files here. I even tried without a SIM card and on flight mode. What do I do?

Thanks, ncruz, but now I feel really stupid! I'm able to do most files, but these three files won't rename, delete, move or anything else:
wirelessonoff.2bp
WirelessMgr.htm
WlanMgr.htm
Also I can't import the reg file with PHM registry editor (the import function is greyed out, probably because it doesn't understand WM5), so I had to do that manually. What do you use to import registry settings?
What I can say is that it seems to work, I get the icon in the system tray, and I can turn on all wireless services with it, and I can turn off all at once, but not one at a time (which I belive you said in your original thread anyway). And only the phone shows the blue color for connected.
It didn't help on my biggest problem either, that WiFi is turned off when the PPC is suspended, and when using a program to turn it on, it just stands there trying to connect to something, probably because the driver starts searching before the WiFi card itself is ready. I'm gonna play a bit with the delay setting in the manager, but I really doubt that it would help.
Finally the 200 kb limit hasn't changed. I still get the connection loss.
Edit: Houston, I have a problem! After the partial installation of the connection manager I have slowdowns, short freezes (around 10 seconds or so) and other problems I didn't have before. Can this be the files I didn't manage to copy over, or do you have some of the same symptoms on your BA?

Hi,
Thoose files aren't needed, if you can't install them just forget it, it's just a bitmap and some help files..
I used TRE to import (i think) or is it katalyst something? can't remember i now i'm using TRE..
Well.. I don't have thoose freezes, have you noticed that the wireless manager changed? (it now shows IP address etc) right?
You can allways remove the files and the registry settings and you get everything back to normal...

Thanks! I will do a little experimenting, then. Weird thing is that these symptoms are some that I have seen other people here have, but I don't know if they have tried with that wireless manager. And yes, I like the way it takes care of business. I'll try to do a hard reset and install these files first, to see if it's something else that creates the problems.

Problem still occurs while connecting from the cradle, the BT, and the WiFi even the GPRS.. I noticed this problem since the first release of this ROM.

You mean the last patched ROM (version 3) or since the first WM5 ROM came? I've had it since the first WM5 ROM.

Strange. I have it on WiFi, but not in the cradle. This is one error with a lot of manifestations!
