Hi,
Could everyone post their experiences of using different SD cards, please include any problems experienced and anythingelse that might be useful for a buyer, e.g. what you use the card for, as certain cards work fine but cause problems with some applications e.g. Tom Tom 5 and the fone dialer. Also please include the make, model, price, the where you bought the card and what you use the card for.
The reason for this topic is that, I read in the forums people have had problems with different cards and applications. All this information is spread across the forum. It would be really handy for a buyer (like me) to have a thread like this...
Many Thanks!

At the moment I use an "ADTEC" 256mb card, it works fine with TT3 and does not seem to crash my xda2i, But it is a couple of years old and i am about to get a 512mb card, So it will be interesting for me to see how this thread develops.

yeah transend 80x ,but i do think any 80x will work ,but 1 person found the transend 80x worked so i think we all bought them as we were just glad we finally found a working sd card ,well i know i was :D
but it would be interesting to see what other can be used succesfully
I recently bought an Ebuyer own brand 1GB SD card for £32
When it arrived it was actually a Kingston branded card! :)
I'm not the only person this has happened to...check out the reviews on Ebuyer.
Anyway, I've only had it for about a week but I've had no problems with it so far.
Not really used it exstensively but I've currently got about 300MB worth of music on it.
Good price, Good product I think.

I have a Corsair 1GB 40x card. I haven't used it much, and I know virtually nothing about these things... But it works. ~£40 from dabs.com.

Transcend 80x 1GB........... No problem whatsoever... even when running TomTom Navigator 5
Take back what I previously said. I can't access the card on my PDA now - it simply doesn't show up :(
Not sure if it's the PDA or the card because I've only just realised and I don't have a card reader at work...will have to try when I get home and update then.
Cheers
Wayne
I'm sending the card back under warranty.
Also, it wasn't a Kingston...it was Viking branded card (not sure where I got the Kingston from :D)

I currently own three seperate cards as listed below and their respective uses. Also I would point you to my article I have written for a quarterly magazine here in Oman. Got to WWW.digitaloman.gov.om to read about my experiences with PDA's in general.
1). Transcend 1GB SD card, used mainly for backup of data in the PDA2.
2). SanDisk Ultra II (Combination) SD and USB card 1GB. Used mainly to store and move files between PDA and Laptop. Great little gadget for people who are always on the move and sometimes need to do some work on a document on a PC but them have the ability to read on PDA.
3) SanDisk 512 CF Card used in conjunction with VGA adaptor for showing powerpoint presentations from the PDA, Works extremely well when backpack is on the device and the files are on SD card in the main device and have to be moved for viewing.

Hi,
I bought a 1GB 66x BRAVO SD Card at Ebay.
Since then, my Alpine crashes over and over again.
I Soft reset it 5-10 times a day!
I guess it's the SD Card's fault as the device never crashes without the card.

Hi!
I have my XDA IIi for about 2 weeks now. So far I didn't have any problems with my SD-Cards.
I have a 256MB SD Card extrememory (no fancy speed...) that works quite well. I used it several days without problems and now have placed my rom backup on it.
The other SD Card I now use mainly for my XDA IIi is a 2GB Card from Transcent (150x). Until now I didn't had any strange problems with it (used it for about one and a half week).

I've finally found an SD card that works with Tomtom5 without crashing - it the Transcend 80x SD Card.
I've tried loads of others some better than others, but all crashed within minutes of starting TT5 except the Transcend.
Some other SD Cards were fine running Tomtom 3, but would not run Tomtom5 as all.
I've had the following cards that cause TT5 to crash:-
Kingston Ultimate 133x 512Mb
Kingston Elite 80x 512Mb
Scandisk 512Mb
The only other card that I've had that didn't cause TT5 to crash was :-
Compaq 128Mb (speed unknown as it came with an iPaq) but not big enough.
thanks everyone for youre input. ive ordered a ridata 1GB SD card. its a 66x speed card. i read somewhere cant remember where now that tomtom needs a 10mbs card which is 66x speed which my main reason for buying the card will let you know how it goes when i receive the card.
Sorry alinoorahman - I fear I got to disappoint you :? I got a ridata card as well (256 MB, 66x). I also encounter the problem that it`s only available randomly.
Btw: 1GB extrememory won`t work neither  big shite

Hi All,
I use a Zynet 1Gb 68x and my TomTom only has a problem with incoming calls. freezing to solve it, I turn my BT GPS on and off and this fixes it.
My friend is using a Qtek 2020i with Tomtom and a Transcend 1Gb 80x,
he has the same problem as me.
I don't know if the new 1.04 Radio version would help or not, when I get the energy I will upgrade my XDA IIi to this and test.
My opinion is that the Alpine has an internal power problem, as it only occurs with Bluetooth on, causing a power drain when a call is received thus your SD card briefly loses power. Its only a theory, the weight is towards some sort of design fault with the Alpine, otherwise one of the Carries etc would have sourced an answer by now, as the Alpine has been out long enough now. We cannot blame SD cards which work perfectly well with the majority of other electrical devices on the market.

hello..i got a 1 gb sandisk sd card which works fine in my qtek 2020i and i also use tom tom 5 with this and a 1gb pny sd card as well.
i never new there was all these problems with sd cards , saying that i always bought sandisk and they have not let me down before with this ppc phone or my past ppc phone like the spv m1000.

I have a sandisk 1 GB SD card (its definitely not 80x, but i dont know what speed it is.. i'd say 66 or possibly the speed slower than that) and i have bad problems with my phone.
i have an application which connects to GPRS and periodically syncs the phone (whether its on or in standby). Often it would crash in standby, so i couldn't turn it back on and would have to soft reset it. i figured out that the crashing was the gprs cos as soon as i told it to not sync with gprs it stopped crashing. I have recently taken out the SD and turn gprs syncing back on, and the phone hasn't crashed yet, and its been almost 2 weeks (whereas before the phone would crash every day or two).
i also had a problem where if i hung up the phone just after the person i was talking to hung up, it would freeze the phone. since i've taken the SD card out this problem has disappeared as well.
I'm going to borrow my work mates' sandisk ultra II 1 GB card and see if i have any issues with that.
I've just looked up the sandisk SD's, it appears the Ultra II is 66x speed, so therefore my SD card which is older than the ultra II must be even slower.. as other people have had problems with their 66x cards i dont think i'll have any luck with this one, but i'll try it anyway.

I'm using a 1Gb Sandisk.... nothing but PROBLEMS!!!!
I haven't tried any other card yet and I find it hard to believe that a card could cause these problems.
I have problems listening to music..... Just stops and freezes media player. 2 options soft reset or remove and reinsert SD Card...
GPRS sometimes just stops working and wont sync with Exchange server at work. Only option soft reset.
Missed call.... light flashes orange but when you press the power button to get it out of standby mode nothing happens. Only option soft reset.
Receive a text whilst in standby mode same thing happens... if it turns out to be the card I'm gonna SCREAM....
This is my second XDAIIi and I've had these problems on both Devices.. identical.. only thing I haven't changed is the Card.... I'm gonna get me a Transcend 150x... I'd hate the 80x to freeze on me, I'm very sceptical this will solve anything though...

I've just ordered a 1Gb Transcend 80x from the following link, seems like a reasonable price £52.29 and free delivery to UK addresses. http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=13363&ft=D
I wanted a 150x but can't afford that. Will have to save my pennys... I really hope this works and you're not all talking drivel :D :D :D

See, the thing is, which was already stated on plenty of forums, is the idea that Transcend is one of the SD cards which is made by the use of SLC, not MLC, its a single layer only, which makes it more stable, and high-quality, i'm not goin to go into details, but just read around about these cards, and you'll see for yourself.
SLC vs MLC is main difference.
this also makes the efficiency transfer rate ratio increased in %,
as well as deffering from the problem caused by mem card is unstable voltage usage, this is a low-power stable device, which will not jolt if i may say so during sudden 'actions' in ur device. namingly exactly what u mean.
1. unstable bitrate in media
2. missed call
3. other such situations causing a voltage jump which is adapted by the Instrument(PDA) but not by the card itself. think of it as of a fuse blowing in a house, except that its not;)

1 gb sandisk, and mine locks up with it in
Scandisk -> known to lock up since speed usually below 80x
Transcend -> 80x will avoid lock-ups, and better quality card than scandisk will furthermore assure u the convenience of running a more stable PDA, all u hv2do is sort some other issues else out (whichever u may have) ;)

I have a
Dane-Elec 1GB XS SD-Card
running. I had a problem once, some of the data was lost, but I think i screwed up the system with some software experiments. I formated the card, reinstalled and have no problems since.

I have a Zynet 1GB card which is bad to say the least. Folders appear from nowhere with strange names as did a file that read 3.5gb in size! This is a cheap piece of crap and I'm buying a Trancend single layer card now.

Using a PNY 256mb in mine - no idea what the speed is, it's probably not the fastest at all, as I bought it a few years ago to work with my first digital camera - it seems to work ok though, not sure if it causes any of the crashes I experience (I think that might just be my infernal tinkering), but I've never lost any data from it.

It is strange, I use TOMTOM 5.21 with a 1 Gb Sandisk, it works perfectly with no extra POIs, but when I use extra POIs saved in Map-folder it freezes time to time and I have to extract the card and put in again.
Do you think if I update the Radio version to 1.04 I will solve something? Or may be it is the card. and I have to buy a Trascend 80x
Thank you very much!

I have a T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone and found it works well with a Lexar 256 MB memory SD card. The reason I found my way to this site is I have been having problems with a SanDisk WiFi SD card with 256MB memory. When I go to "connections" it does not recognize the card as being installed. I suspect it to be a software or driver issue because it does recognize the memory when installed.
I will continue to read the other posts but if anyone has experience with this issue please e-mail me.
Kind Regards
