Is it possible to Upgrade my Enligsh Jasjar to Chinese?

I just found a Cheinese Rom in the FTP, and using the "MaUpgradeUt_noID" it seems can detect my rom version, but i did not continue because i can not afford to "Fail", DID anyone know how to upgrade my english ROM to chinese???

should be no problem for that , you can look at FTP again there had new ROM 11336_11334_10402 that's same as I had Dopod 900 , I already try to flush WEE i-mate ROM and flush back Dopod ROM twice no problem for flush ,

I did the upgrade from Jasjar WWE to Dopod CHT. Here is how I did it:

1. Connect JJ to ActiveSync thru USB and wait till the sync session is completed.

2. While the sync is still active, I ran MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. After a few steps of checking, it will disconnect ActiveSync and put the JJ into the bootloader mode.

3. The upgrade will halt with a country code error. No upgrade has been performed yet.

4. Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe again while the cable is still connected and JJ still in bootloader mode. I was prompted that I am upgrading from [Blank] to [NewVersionNumber]. Click "Next".

5. The ROM will be upgraded this time till it's done. It took about 20 minutes.

6. I pressed both softkeys and reset. When the reset prompt comes up, I pressed "0" to reset to default factory settings. After some booting time, JJ starts to speak Chinese.

I upgraded to Chinese ROM because the Chinese plug-in I used to use for English ROM is kind of buggy on WM5. Thanks to everyone on this forum.

There are a few things I did after I upgraded to CHT ROM:

1. Changed the system font to the more artistic Kai font (from KAIU.ttf on a Windows machine). The original system font was MingLiU, which looked kind of scrawny on a VGA screen.

2. Re-enabled ClearType for the system and PIE. For some reason, Dopod disabled ClearType settings so the user cannot turn on ClearType from the user interface. I used a registry editor and modified a few keys to get the ClearType feature back.

With the Kai font and ClearType, the screen becomes a lot more readable and very pretty! If someone is interested in step-by-step instructions, let me know, and I will post them.

By the way, I was so excited when I discovered the im.tv site actually works for me in USA. I was able to watch the TV news in Taiwan in full VGA screen.

One difference I noticed is that with the WWE ROM, I can very easily set up Bluetooth ActiveSync. With the CHT ROM, the device can only discover the serial port service on my computer, but not recognize its ActiveSync capability. If someone knows how to correct this, please let me know.

Also, in case you don't know, the keyboard mappings between WWE and CHT ROMs are slightly different. The SYM key is swapped with the ";" character, probably because SYM is hardly used in Chinese input. The shortcut "FN + ;" can toggle the English and Bomopofo modes. Note the ";" character is now on the SYM key of JASJAR.

1. Copy KAIU.ttf from a Windows machine. Paste it into the Pocket PC's "Windows" directory thru ActiveSync.

2. Using a registry editor (like PHM RegEdit), BACK UP your registry first! Then go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\FontLink\Sys temLink\". Change the data of "Courier New" and "Tahoma" keys to "\windows\KAIU.ttf,DFKai-SB".

3. Soft-reset your device. Now all the Chinese characters become Kai font. It is not very smooth, because ClearType is still disabled.

4. To enable ClearType, this is how I did it. Maybe some steps are not really necessary.

5. Using the same registry editor, search for the keyword "cleartype" in all the keys and values. I found three matches. I set ClearType=1, NoClearType=0, ClearTypeText=1 respectively.

6. Soft-reset your device. You will see that the system ClearType is still disabled. Go to "Settings -> System -> Screen -> ClearType" to enable ClearType. This option was originally hidden from end users. Now it's visible. Once you check the "Enable ClearType" box, the font will immediately smooth up.

That's it. One thing worthy of note is, KAIU.ttf seems to only have traditional Chinese characters, not simplied Chinese. I am not sure.

The KAIU.ttf comes with many versions of Microsoft Office of many languages. When the Asian character support is selected during installation, Office will install some extra Asian fonts for you. This is one of them.

Anyway, I uploaded this font to ftp://xdaupload:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Universal

I don't know if this upload is appropriate. If it is not, the board moderators, please feel free to delete it. Thanks.

The principles that I outlined above should work with any TrueType Chinese font that you like.

I use Magic Button to "truly" close applications. It also shows battery meter and the icons of currently running apps.

Yes, as I mentioned in one of my previous posts, KAIU.ttf seems to include only traditional Chinese. The MingLiU font that came with the Dopod ROM has both traditional and simplified. I presume there are many third-party fonts on the market that support both. Note that fonts supporting both styles tend to occupy a lot more space.

Have you guys tried Pocket Informant on this CHT ROM? I installed PI R3(which is supposed to be compatible with WM5), it works but after a soft-reset, I get an error message like this: 无法开启档案'Pocket Informant', 档案未使用信任的凭证进行数位签署，或找不到档案的其中一个元件。您可能必须重新安装或还原此 档案"
I tried several times and it's all the same, but I don't have to reinstall PI, just tap OK to dismiss the error message, and then I find PI is still working.
Another problem is how to use PICalendar to replace with the default one? As you know, there're two buttons on the bottom of the today theme, one is Calendar, and the other is Contact .Ive already made Informant the default PIM, and when I tap Contact, PIcontact will show up, but when I tap Calendar, the one show up is still the default one included in the ROM.

Thank you for your advise. But I don't why I can't change the english to chinese. I can upload the rom to the machine and than reset it by both keys and reset button. but, it is keep stay at the bootloader mode. I have no choice and re-install the english rom. :(

2) Double kick the MaupgradeUt_noID.exe. A error message told me can't find of "RUU.dll"

3) then, I extracted the (Open_ch)NI_DOPOD_11336_134_10402_Test.exe into a same folder.

4) Double kick the MaupgradeUt_noID.exe again. It show me something
like checking the info of my machine. after 1-2 mins, it just what yyl said, it will disconnect automaticly.

5) I following what yyl did, try to connect my Jasjar with my machine and Double kick the MaupgradeUt_noID again. It show me checking the machine info again. After 1-2 mins, an errror message told me something like "can't connect with my machine... Please check your machine and make sure it is turn on..." Now the machine still stay at a bootloader mode.

6) I try to disconnect and reconnect the usb cable to the machine and do the above procedure 2-3 times, it still show me the same meassage. Until I press the light + power + reset, than the progame of MaupgradeUt_noID can detacted my machine now, Just same as before.It show me the picture of O2 mini and details of my exsiting ROM version. But the exsiting vesion in my machine become a "blank" info.

7) then I kick the confirm to upgrade the ROM again. Now it show me it is uploading status bar under the winows. Total have 3 stages.

8) after that, the programe ask me to reset my machine, I press the 2 "-"buttons which under the screen+ the reset button. When the reset prompt comes up, I pressed "0" to reset to default factory settings. But, the machine will go back to the bootloader mode and nothing happen.

I think I must did something wrong or missing some files.

!-5 is right after this don't move your machine and round MaUpgradeUt_noID again than you will see 7) ,after finish just push rest buttom than you had Chinese in hand.

his problem was " didn't Extract ship rom " and Run MaUpgradeUt_noid.exe with ship rom" , I think maybe you face samething,Rar extract ship rom become folder than you will see 9 files inside of folder than copy MaUpgradeUt_noid.exe into folder and Run MaUpgradeUt_noid.exe , you will see country code error than exit and Run MaUpgradeUt_noid.exe again you will be fine .

lot's of ways for into CE system ( like power + reset, power + light+reset),but the mache alawys display the black screen. I think my XDA have some mistake of Bootloader. Wait , what model XDA you had ? Universa hardreset are different with Blue Angle , you need go to keypad on top bothside of phone had - , push two - and reset in sametime for hardreset.

the model is xda exec . I found the hard reset way from O2 handbook.as your said, the screen disply "Press 0 to restore factory default press X to exit." I did hardrest for 10 time for diffriend roms . :( .but it did work. it's really hard to upgrade for my xda exec...

1.download WINRAR http://www.rarlab.com/ into your computer
2.right click your mouse at Dopod ship rom and Extract ship rom will
become dopod folder, inside had 9 files.
3.copy MaUpgradeUt__NoId.exe into Dopod folder.
4.Run MaUpgradeUt__NoId.exe than you will see country code error , than
exit.
5.re-run MaUpgradeUt__NoId.exe again now you will see upgrade screen
come out , click upgrade and wait upgrade finish.
6.after finish upgrade than push reset buttom.

now you had Dopod Rom in your O2 Exec.

You didn't doing 1 & 2 that's why you got upgrade only 1 min , upgrade should be 20 min.

that's no problem to upgrade CHT rom , a lot of people didn't read wiki and don't understand how to that's problem come from. read wiki for how to upgrade in Blue Angle WM5 that very clear how to.

Hi everyone, I am using the xda exec and I have got the same problem. after upgrading which it took 20mins and I reset( both soft reset and hard reset), the xda came out to change to factory setting, I press 0, then the screen changed back to blank. bootloader mode. I don't know how to sort it out man. Can anyone help? Thx

I tried to install again and just press the reset buttom and still not working. I have posted the xda back to the factory and asked them for another one. However, I would like to know if there is any other method to convert the rom to chinese. Also, is there any programme for me to use to read chinese, I installed the monster chinese 5.0 but it has some problem because it cannot show the webpage. Can anyone help?? thx mwang anyway

I don't understand your Exec what didnt working , I flush my Exec no problem at all , also some of member in here don't had problem , upnow I saw had your two guys had problem.

NO Simpified Chinese Version ,you need to download Chiese font than you can see that , if you go to IE you can change Uni-code or simplified Chinese than you can see web page

I will get my new xda exec today as they sent me another one. I am not sure whether I should take the risk and try it again. I read that there is a new CE star v2.8 for WE5.0 which you can use it to read chinese on the xda and the web. I am not sure though. But thx for your help anyway

Dopod didn't release in mainland China , only for Taiwan and HongKong,bcz China don't allow WiFi ,so most PPC had WiFi not release in China,if you need Simplified Chinese that you can add CE-Star new version see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=31618&highlight=

That after you , I flush ROM try many way to play just for fun , I got bootscreen V.01 last night can't get out for a hour in my Dopod 900 , I try to flush O2 Exec new ROM , than I flush back Dopod ROM than come out again , than re-try O2 ROM again , now my Dopod 900 had Dopod 900 CE ROM and O2 Extended ROM. I don't like too much input in PPC it took too much memory,you can try CE-Star.

No I dont' had official rom , due to Dopod/HK and Taiwan cam out different rom , I did email to Dopod/Taiwan ask them for new rom , their answer is not yet,I don't understand same company come out two different rom in two area , they just said they had different input.

I am new to this forum and I just bought a 2 hand dopod 900 in English version. AND now, how can I change the english rom to Chinese rom.
There is a lot of row in the FTP. Which one I should donwload?
