Does anybody know whether it is possible to connect a USB GPS mouse via USB cable to the Universal? Universal should be able to act as a USB host, so it might be possible. If yes, any ideas on external power supply? Maybe via USB cable splitter?

Thanks, the Modifier

No-one's yet posted to point out that the Universal cannot act as a USB host, not sure if you've been PM'd yet - I thought I ought to point this out just in case someone saw this thread and thought it confirmed that the device did.

IIRC from reading other posts, it is not possible to connect a GPS mouse via cable to the Universal. I would imagine that this is a drivers issue though (?) as the 4 pins on a usb connector should be able to deal with v+/-, rx and tx...

Anyone care to comment on the feasibility, I would prefer to be able to use my serial GPS unit than buy a new one (well, ok, no I wouldn't, I want a battery powered SirfIII BT device I can use on my mountain bike and this is a great excuse, but I *ought* to use my existing gps box! )

It's not a driver issue, it's a hardware issue. Physical bits for a host are different than for a client USB device. The Jasjar (Exec) is a client device and you aren't going to be hooking another client to it.
