I had the same problem on my first time upgraded WM5 on my BA.
Howver, I found out my problem was on Wiki
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_5.1.1700_build_14343_Upgrade
Step 11
You'll see three options; change the second and the third to "yes".
If you have a PH20B device such as MDAIII, QTEK 9090, XDAIIs, PDA2K etc.
You can do that with the camera and the record buttons.
This step is important, and if by any chance you missed this step, just do that instructions and change 2nd and 3rd option to yes and apply all the pathes from

Well it worked for me, I hope it helped to solve your problem.
Sorry if my english terrible.

After installing WM5, your machine will be really slow. You need to apply the patches that are found at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_WM5_Patches_ChangeLog
A few tips for you:
Before applying the patches, make sure you disable ALL sounds, including the ringer on the phone (set it to vibrate) and keypad tones. Also make sure you disable Error Reporting, as stated.
After applying each patch make sure you power down the device, wait about 30 seconds, power the device on again and then do a soft reset to make sure that the registry changes take. This applies to any registry change on WM5, even in the future.
After all the patches have been applied, you should be able to switch sounds back on as you like and the device will be much faster.
One final tip: I've always used PocketPlus on my device in the past but I found that it really slows my phone down, especially on WM5 so I've had to uninstall it. I'm now running iLauncher instead, and although I prefer PocketPlus for functionality, the speed increase that I get with iLauncher seals the deal for me.
