Hi

Anyone found any software that offers reliable voice dialing? The MDA Pro comes with somet called "Voice Speed Dial" Its sh1te!

Has a habit of trashing the voice tags of its own accord, and often does not respond when I press button on bluetooth headset.

When the device is closed and off and you press the button on headset nothing happens (PPC is starting up etc) several presses are usually required before you can actually call the contact.

I just tried a trial version of microsoft voice command 1.5 (this I believe is what imate is shipping) unfortunately it cannot understand a word I say!! (could be the devonian accent).

I said 'call work' it said 'calling 999' I managed to hit it with a brick before it actually did call 999 !!!

Anyone suggest something that actually works (flawlessly). I dont mind training it if that means its gonna work!

"microsoft voice command" all the way.
Thing is that it doesn't support dutch, but it does support english, german and american, so if you speak any of these languages you will have to get this program.

Dunno about the trial version, but the full version requires you to pronounce right. You can test this by letting someone call you first so you can hear how the program expects you how to pronounce it. (I have dutch names and they are completely different when pronounced by the voice command)

Hope this helps.

I've flashed my MDA Pro with the I-Mate JASJAR rom, and the standard voice dial on that works like a charm!

It even work from my Jabra BT800!

Grrrrr

I'm a native English speaker and it dont ruddy understand me!!

Sounds like many people here have gone for the JasJar rom on their devices. I guess I will give this a go - I just dont want to end up with a useless brick.

MS Voice Command - works for me on my jas jar via my moto BT headset even in the car when driving (i.e. with plenty background noise).
If you follow the tips on the MS VC website it makes it even more reliable.

The HTC voicedial program works great for me, and complies with my HS810 headset without any issues whatsoever. In fact it's even recognised my commands with music running in the background. I've tried MSVC in the past on other XDA's and found it to be rather cumbersome.

I found that Microsoft Voice command when started via bluetooth headset does not turn the link off when it's finished.

The way i got this to work with BT was to replace the file sddialer.exe in the windows folder with the voicecmd.exe file from MS VC.

Does anyone else know a better way of doing this to allow for the BT headset to be turned off automatically once listening is finished ?

Voicedial works, I just find it really slow. It is 100% reliable on the recognition front though.

What I noticed with voice command was an instant response. Press the button and speak, no wait of any kind for the 'beep'.

Voice command simply sticks an icon on the task bar, it does not have to load some monster gui before you can speak. Ditching the gui would be a step forward for the built in voicedial.

Hi

How did you get voice command to respond to the bluetooth headset in the first place?

With VC installed, the button on my BT headset is still starting the old HTC voicedial software.

Is there some registry setting somewhere to tell it what to launch?

Yes there is a simple registry hack, it's posted else where in these forums but here it is again

Install Voice Command to the default location.
Fire up a registry editor
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand
Modify the string marked "path" from the default \Windows\SDDialer.exe to \Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe

This works for me and everyone else who has tried it AFAIK

I simply replace the file sddialer.exe with the voicecmd.exe and renamed the voicecmd.exe to sddialer.exe. After a softreset that's it.

Still can't fathom out a way to close the BT link though without doing it manunally from the headset.

Also does anyone have Fonix Voice Central installed on their Universal, i always get an error saying unsigned program or summit like that when i try to install the trial.

I am italian mother tongue. Cyberon voicedial works incredibly well. I tried vito's program in the past. Average it could recognize 10%.
The cyb's software is awsome. I use it with a Jabra BT800 headset and recognize voice even in noisy environment.
Must tell that I am very satisfied with my JJ. Absolutely no problems in any way.

Trying to install Fonix Voice Central 3.0 Trial on my new Universal but keep getting an error stating unable to install as it is from a untrusted source or is an unsigned program.

Please help

Hi

OK, so its more reliable when using the bluetooth headset - it even understands devonian! BUT and this is a big but... why the heck does it not work when the device is closed (screen inside) and switched off??

Nuts... I get the beep from voice command after pressing button on the headset, but it ignores what I say. Performing the same thing with the screen open laptop or pda style (with device switched off) works fine, but not with the ruddy screen closed.

Anyone else experienced this?? Screen closed it how my device stays most of the time.

I see what people have been saying about it leaving the bluetooth channel open after as well - mad!

Hi

Voice command not responding when unit closed (screen inside), and using button on BT headset.

Has no-one else found this, and if it works for them can they post rom versions. Certainly does not work on MDA Pro shipped rom!

When unit open, or screen folded outside PDA style, VC does respond to BT headset fine. Just not when its closed.

Works perfectly with Jabra BT800 and device switched off (screen closed down).
No problem at all!

Thanks - looks like a bug in the ancient MDA Pro software.

I was holding off flashing it with imate roms case I heard a rumour that t-mobile are about to release a new rom soon which may be newer again I suppose.

Well, I put the imate rom on there and that did not solve it. Voice command does not work from bluetooth headset when unit closed. It gives me the beep prompt to say its listening, but it never responds. Open screen and all is well.

Save me some money anyway, no point in buying Voice Command if it does not work properly!

Ive just been using the bog standard voice recognition. No problems at all, even works with background noise.

Im guessing that some people havent read instructions properly ;)

The HTC software that comes with the device does work (reliably) its just too slow to be of any use.

10 secs to respond when unit is off/closed. If I dont get a prompt response i'll press the button on the headset again which seems to confuse the hell out of it.

This is my reason for trying voice command... Response time from voice command (from unit off) is 2 secs max. Unfortunately it does not ruddy well work when lid is closed (no matter whether unit is on/off).

Does not seem to matter if device is switched on or off, only matters if screen is closed/open. Voice Command beeps into headset 'start speaking beep' but does not recognise what is said. If I do the same 5 secs later, after opening the unit (no other changes), then it responds fine. This is 100% repeatable on my unit.

Since yours works, Perhaps my MDA is knackered somehow. Guess I cant return it now - no way of putting the MDA Pro rom back on it again!!

I am 99.9999% sure its not the headset.

I'm seeing exactly the same behaviour with my O2 Exec - I get the beep and then MSVC does nothing. I've also had problems transferring files via BT when the lid is closed.
Seems like its a BT issue. Maybe theres a registry tweak that would sort it out?Anyone?

Least I know I am not mad then, Someone with an italian JasJar earlier in this thread says it works closed.

I uninstalled it in the end, The supplied voice rec software might be slow, but it does appear to work closed.

Very possibly a BT issue... dunno.

Exec has another anoying issue when closed, the start/end call buttons dont light up so it impossible to tell one from the other esp when dark. I have am tempted to paint them if this does not get fixed.

I too have the same problem with MSVC when the device is closed. The most annoying thing i have found on all but the built-in voice dial software (which is Cyberon voice dial) is that the BT audio link does not close after MSVC is finished.

This is great in the fact that you are then able to listen to your mp3's etc through BT but it's still a bug that could cause your headset to fast run out of charge if left on.

it also appears that MSVC is still using the mic on the headset to pick our voices, not the mic on the headset.

However, having tested both MSVC and Fonix voice central i still think msvc is the best, lets just hope it is updated soon.

There is an update on the MS site, but it says it is to upgrade from 1 to 1.5 but I'm not sure if it is a later point number then if you get 1.5 from Handango.

Does anyone have the problem that if you soft reset then you have to go back into setting and enable VC again, and if they do how do you fix it, it is a pain in the bum

Morituri

Yes, as am I, but there have been later point releases mentioned elsewhere on these forums, my version is 1.50.4333.21 but I did read that someone is using 1.51, if someone has installed the update from the MS website and let us know what the update is

Thanks

it's 1.50 im afraid :x

I've read that MSVC is not 100% wm5 compatable so have switched to fonix voice central, this seems a bit better how ever i cannot got this to read my inbox items, justs stays are main level, works fine for contacts and calendar etc.

Hi,

Have anyone experienced their SIP (keyboard/letter recog/block recog/transcriber) slow to change after installing VC1.5?

Try this: tap the little triangle next to the SIP in the middle of the bar and change it to something else. Say u're using keyboard, click the triangle and change to transcriber. How long does it take to **EDIT** list the SIP menu? Mine takes about 3 seconds! (by counting 1001, 1002...).

VC1.5 is definitely the culprit, as I just removed VC1.5 & it's fast again. Did a hard reset, and installed VC1.5 as my 2nd application, and sure enough, it's slow again. My 1st application was just a softreset app.

Strangely, the 1st time I upgraded to WM5.0 1.60C (I'm using Xda2, btw), the SIP change was slow. Then after several months, I hard reset and the SIP change was fast. 2 days ago, I hard reset again, and now it's slow again.

Anyone have any ideas?

I am using version 1.1 Cyberon and have no problems at all. I am using it with my Ericsson Bluetooth carkit. This version was included in the Jasjar rom.

I have installed the Jasjar rom on my MDA Pro.

Does this come as standard, or do one need to by this? Also will it clash with the voice dial that is on the unit by default?

What I'm after is to be able to use the stand "tagged" voice dial function from my BT headset, for contacts that I have recorded a voice tag against (i.e to ensure good recognition each time), and to be able to press a voice command button to access the rest of my contacts that I haven't recorded a tag for.

Will this work?

I thought I was going mad when I tried using voice command in the car today, so I'm glad to read it's not just me.

Not sure why it doesn't work when the unit is closed, but it's damned annoying!

Hopefully, there will be an update to fix it soon.

I'm also pissed off about the pick up/hang up buttons not being illuminated when the Exec is closed. I'm not sure there is much you can do about it, as they use the screen backlight to illuminate them. If the screen is off, then so are they.

I can't get my new Bluetake iphono mini headphones to activate any voice dialling software... When I press the phone/power button then they beep (their own beep not the voice activation one) and nothing else happens... I tried this with a SE headset and it worked fine. So it would seem this is the fault of the headset.

Has anyone else come across this or a similar problem?

BTW their is a fix for the dialling buttons... But it is a little wierd!

If you install Mastersoft Sudoku v1.12 then within this there is an option to keep backlight illuminated. When you close the univsersal the back light appears to go off but the two buttons stay illuminated!?! Not sure what effect it has on battery life as I have never left it running for any length of time.

If this doesn't have a huge effect on Battery life I am sure someone could write a short peice of code to do the same!
