Nor TaoJava [Midlet Manager from BA 2003] , nor CrE-ME, nor any other product doesn't work for me.
If you need, try this one:
IBM WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment 5.72, known as J9
It's a part of a whole environment.
It's trial.
You should pay $5 for WEME after trying it [search Handango or IBM site]
It looks, that there are no "trial version imitations" nor "expiration date".
Full "WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment" contains PC developement environment and locale files [de, es, fr, it, ja, ko, nl1, etc...] - 87 megabytes.
I've found only one problem - after starting midlet manager, you will see white screen and a gray bar. Touch this bar or use navigation keys - you will see list of yours midlets.
The rest look OK. Including network communication, graphics etc.
