Since 3 days I am a proud owner of a Dopod 838. But the fun started right after the first trials. In the mean time I ahve the 3rd device (the first two pda's whare running terrible and the dealer in Thailand replaces them). Now with the last one at least I can work a little. Still remaining the following strange issues:
1. Reboot it's self at least 20 times a day
2. Pick up phone calls by it's self (settings checked!)
3. Installation of some software (even WM5 ready sw) blocks the device at welcome screen. Onnly hard reset can help. In the mean time i have hard reset my device maybe 30 times It's great fun. Anyone have any idea or may an new rom version? I was a user of a XdA IIs and wish back this well working device

I have purchased Dopod 838 English Version for 2 weeks. It works perfect without any hard reset or self reboot problem. It was a very good PDA phone commented in Hong Kong. There was a low return rate as heard in HK.

What is the ROM version using now?

I do not see Dopod will release updated ROM soon. Pls bring back the machine to dealer for repair or checking.

Friend of mine is playing with Dopod 838 eng version and said it took over 5 minutes to startup on first boot!! Did you have this problem too?

Where did you get yours?

hi guy, my dopod 838 got one problem like this. And this is very irritating me.

When every time i keep my dopod in my ori case by dopod and take out, the screen of the handphone rotate from portait to landscape. And it is like happen 4 out of 5 times when every time i take in and out from my case. I find out it is the magnet at the case that trigger the action. Is u guy face the problem also? Or only mine have this problem?

Can email me?

Other that this problem, i find no other problem, but only great to have this phone!!

I am using Dopod 838 with latest i-Mate ROM (2.16.x.x) with no problem. It is wrong assumption to say you need to use Dopod's GSM. None of any Wizard OEM have any difference in terms of hardware except casing. You can use any of these firmwares provided that you did upgrade properly.

Throw away Dopod original firmware, its a great tool to send your unit to junk bin. After you have used the latest i-mate/qtek firmware, you will notice how terrible it was with the original dopod.

I used to have the same problem -
The problem is the magnet on the F*@%en case that comes with the Dopod - just use a nother case

The original ROM came with my Dopod 838 (English version) was crappy in every way. My Dopod 838 became much better in every application and every way after the ROM upgrade. I think it's more than a high recommendation. It is literally a must. Just my 2 cents.
