I'm not sure if NetFront 3.2 ever worked on WM5.0, but here's a thread about 3.3 which people have been using http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32924&highlight=netfront. I used NetFront (3.2) with my previous device with WM2003SE but haven't given it a try on the JasJar yet.
Beyond that, have you tried connecting using IE first and then opening up NetFront after IE has established the GPRS connection? I think I recall people mentioning that they had to do something like that (but I don't remember where, sorry!)

If I may suggest, Bitstream is testing a beta version of their Thunderhawk browser for the JasJar. I would guess you could email them and they will send you the cab file to install. I still think that Thunderhawk is the best browser out there.
