Hello Everyone,

I just joined this forum as i was able to buy a QTEk with the following details:

Version de ROM : 1.13.74 ESN
Version de Movil : 1.04.02
Version Protocolo : 42.37.P8
Version de ExtROM : 1.13.169 ESN

As I am more fluent in English than Spanish, I wanted to upgrade my ROM to English, but also I would need to Backup the ROM of the spanish version so if there are problems with the phone, I can flash it back to the original manufacturer installed ROM.

What program do I need to Backup the ROM (and restore in the future) before I start fiddling?

Also, I heard that I can erase Extended ROM. As of now, what can I use the space that I will gain from erasing the contents of the Extended ROM?

Also one thing i noticed is that some of the keys have rub marks coming from the upper part of the universal (the screen) I think they touch eachother when it is colsed. Is this a factory defect?

Finally, I don't know where to register and get support for my QTEK. Where do you download/search for patches? Where do I register this device? Should I have gotten an i-mate instead?

Thanks in advance for all your comments, guys.

Jorge

Hello Anybody out there?

I have posted this message 2 weeks ago, a few views but no answers so I'll go ahead and update you on what's happened:

Thanks to BUZZ_LIGHTYEAR I was able to RAW DUMP my Spanish ROM to a File which I exchanged for a decoded nk.nbf file from an unpacked English ROM Update (the QTEK WWE) then I encoded the RAW file so now I have a new nk.nbf file which i pressume is the Spanish verion.

I'm not sure if it'll make a difference that the rest of the files are in English but will this update any UNIVERSAL to the Spanish verion? Anybody needs Spanish ROM and is willing to test this out? I can send you the Files needed? If it doesn't work you just have to flash back to the English. I haven't tested it yet because my device is originally Spanish so I have no fallback ROM if it doesn't work. But I followed BUZZ's instructions and I don't think it's gonna cause a problem.

Hmm,

seems this topic is very boring to everybody here, oh well....

Anybody has similar case of rubbed-out keys on the keyboard?

Just to show that there are persons available reading and having an opinion ;)
Left and right of my keyboard, a little lower then the keys itself there are two outstanding rubber ? pads ? protecting the display from touching the keyboard, be it in portrait or landscape mode. So no, I do not have this problem.

Mine have the rubber stuff too, Maybe i have them a little low... Could I possibly get a replacement? I don't think this can be considered wear-and-tear as i only had my phone for 1 month..... And the "damage" was caused by open/closing of the phone. Not using of the keyboard.

I would say certainly worth a try.

Good luck.

I bought my qtek 9000 from O2 (UK) by ebay, it works great, but i need spanish software, i'd like to probe MoviStar, vodafone (if available) and free Spanish versions. I also need instructions or manual, i flashed a xda2 once, but i can't remember how i did, i think i put it in a special test mode. Thanks.

I have posted the QTEK Spanish ROM in the uploads section. Please look for it. Both OS and Extended ROM are there.

Just download the OS, and run the "noID" file to upgrade your QTEK to Spanish. Just remember that also the keyboard will be configured to Spanish (which has the "Ñ" character) so you have to re-map it back to whatever keyboard you have. You can search how to do this in the forums.

Just download the 2 said files, then you can upgrade your ROM. These ROM's are dated OCTOBER 2005

Jorgee

Im not sure. I backed-up to my PC. I think you can search here for grab_it program that dumps to SD card but i'm not sure it will work for WM5 or Universal

Well, how did you backup system to your pc?

and thanks again.

Actually, what i backed up was my OS nad ExtendedROM. No personal customizations.

You can see in my second post that i was able to do it thru steps i saw at BUZZDEV.NET thanks to buzz-lightyear.

It's under "how to d2s dump" you can follow my story there on how to backup ROM. Esentially it copies your operating system to a file on your PC which you can then install on another device after encoding/decoding.

I have posted my Spanish QTEK ROM on the FTP site so you can change your QTEK to spanish if you want.

What's your QTEK ROM version? all details please:
ROM Version
ROM Date
Protocol Version
Radio Version
Extended ROM Version

Hello guys,

He bought his Universal in English and wants Spanish. I bought mine in Spanish and want English. Go figure.... Hehehe :D We should have just swapped devices. So much easier... But at least now we know a lot more about our devices than before.

Thanks, I worked for an american company for the first 2 years so I guess my integration into the Spanish population just started 2003.

I've been trying to get an IT job here in Madrid but it seems the people i've had interviews with would rather go for a less qualified native english speaker than a more qualified "foreigner". Just out of luck I guess. The more I try, the nearer I get to that Job.
