whats the benifits of new roms and stuff

right guys brand new xda2i 2 weeks old just looked inside the phone at my device information and it sayes

rom version 1.11.00wwe
rom date 01.27.05
radio version 1.00.00
protocol version 1337.39
extrom version 1.11.162 wwe

i see some of u guys talking about roms and that u guys upgrade them . whats the benifit of doing this upgrade . do u see better changes in your phone . also whats the latest roms for the xda2i and how to install them and get hold of them . i am a bit unsure about this roms and why u guys always upgrade them . can someone please explane what they do and what the upgrades do also thanks

ok mate downloaded the file . and backed up everything now what do i do just run the file . do i have to do anything to get the new rom to work
