I guess the title pretty much sums up my question :) but just to let you know what I've done so far I'll explain fully.
I've been dropping my audio files into the 'Rings' directory for my ringtones without problem. I can then assign these with Start-->Settings-->Phone.
However my dilemma arises when I wish to use a personal audio file as my incoming SMS tone. I've tried copying these to both 'Rings' and also to 'My Music' (although anywhere would be ok I'm sure?). When I try to select an audio file from Start-->Sounds & Notifications-->Notifications I can't see any of my audio files in the 'Event' list to choose for 'Messagin: New Text Message'.
Can you help? Thx in advance.

Try reading the instruction manual..
Start\Sounds & Notifications\Notifications Tab\
User drop down menu to get to Messaging: New Next Message.. Make sure the 'Tick Box' is filled in and use drop down menu to change sound.
If you desire a custom sound, put custom .wma sound into "Windows" on PPC.
Hope this helps..?
Cheers!

After searching for the present notification samples (namely Alarm1, Alarm2 etc...) and finding these within the windows directory of the handset I simply decided I'd store my audio files in the 'Windows' directory to see if they appeared in the 'Event' list.
Tada! I now have funky audio files for my incoming SMS tone. Hope this helps anyone else having difficulty with this problem.

Try reading the instruction manual..
Try reading my post :P j/k
As I mentioned I can change the Event sound for Windows actions but I want a personal audio file to be used instead. I since worked it out but you managed to get your reply in before I posted mine :D
I haven't got a manual btw it was an eBay PDA2K purchase and came with no manual :( a little annoying being a PPC noob but easy enough to use anyway. Just need to find some regedit tools now and see what's really under the bonnet!
Thx for your reply btw ;)

The online manual is VERY HANDY, thanks for that link *bookmarked*
I'll probably d/l the pages and reference images to use offline incase T-Mobile suddenly decide to remove the pages one day (knowing my luck this week).
I'm actually unable to register fully with http://www.clubimate.com as the PDA2K is pre-owned and consequently I need to pay $59.99 to get access to updates and downloads. Which unfortunately for me includes manuals and ROM upgrades. So again I can't thank you enough for the MDAIII link ;)
You are a star!

I wouldn't worry about the clubimate registration as, if required, an i-mate ROM update would proabably be posted in here..
Regarding the Manual, it's probably best to made it usable off-line as I'm not too sure how long the On-line manual will be available.. They've recently stopped selling the MDA3, you know!
Enjoy the BA!
Cheers!
