View Full Version : WM 2003?

Hey all. I currently have a BlueAngel (O2 XDA IIs), and though I am very happy with what it does, I'm not keen on its horrible instability. Therefore, I was thinking of upgrading to the Universal.

However, if I did so I would ideally wish to use WM 2003 SE for program compaitibility, and to avoid the notorious memory leak. Will this pose a huge great problem? I'm thinking that the memory management is different so WM2003 might not know how to deal with the Universal's ROM/RAM combination.

Also I suppose, I would need a WM2003 ROM for the Universal, which doesnt exist I guess?

Final thing, how sturdy is the hinge between the two parts of the Universal? I've heard (and to a small extent seen for myself) that the sliding mechanism of the BA is a bit fragile...

Just a collection of my thoughts really. If anyone has anything to add about the merits or lack of in the Universal, please feel free to let me know.

I've not long had my Universal after 2 happy years with an XDA2

Initially I was disappointed, it was slow, clunky and really annoying.
After following a couple of the threads in this forum it's now stable and really usable. I haven't had to reset in the last week.
Unfortunately I have to take it back tomorrow as the network I'm on (T-Mobile) is so awful I can hardly use the phone :( so I have to go through it all over again when I get it on another network!

WM2005 is a major improvement (in my eyes) on 2003SE, I don't have many software compatibility problems but I suppose it depends what you need to do.

As for the hinge, I suppose we have to wait and see. It seems good so far, again your mileage may vary.

Thanks... can any older users comment on the hinge?

I've had mine since 6th October 2005 and no problems what so ever here.

I don't know if I am older than chockymonster ;) but I have had my M5000 since November and its great - I have tinkered somewhat with different roms and am now using the newest O2 rom which is very stable (and tinkering is all part of the fun!). I have tried many different apps, some of which not specifically compatible with WM2005 without any problems.

Yeah I use plenty of apps that werent designed for my CE version, but a few that I use specifically tate their incompatibility with WM2005:-(

In any case, its an unlikely upgrade, at least in the short term.

Just a pipe dream...

The first MDA Pro that I had (now sent back and got a new one) had a problem with the hinge after a month of using it. It made cracking sound everytime I tried to move the screen and even close the screen.

It might have been in the first batch of production. The quality might have improved by now (I can see that my new MDA Pro has better hinge longevity -- so far so good :) ).
