I'm new here (been lurking for a while) and in the process of haggling with my local O2 shop to match my previously bargained Orange tariff to a XDA mini and O2 tariff. Anyway...

Last night whilst browing i noticed that if you Select a XDA mini S on the O2 shop website, instead of being charged £79.99 on all plans, it comes up as £49.99 on all plans.

Hope this is of some use to somebody :)

Cheers

I thought you had to trade in an old phone to get them for fifty quid, but not if they're making mistakes (again)! Given the number of mistakes that O2 have made recently, I'm surprised they're still in business!

Good find.

Just be careful they dont say it was a clear error and charge you £79. Bonus if you get it for £49 but maybe be prepared to pay £79.

Tell you what though £49 for a mini S is one hell of a bargain. Its a fantastic piece of kit. God I paid £50 for my nokia 3650. Also a very good phone in its day and still a good phone to be honest.

There is no mistake now as the price is shown as £49.99

In just a couple of weeks the price has dropped from £99.99 to £79.99 and now £49.99. At this rate it will be FREE in the next 4 weeks on contract.

Me being a student, I ordered it at a price of 54.99 on Friday and just had it delivered yesterday afternoon :?

Now the student price is less than 30 :x . Is there anything I can do about it? Also why is the price being halfed so rapidly?

Yeah gutted as I just paid £99 for mine just before christmas. You should get a refund if they drop it within a certain time of you buying it. £50 ive just wasted. Not buying a phone just before christmas again. Still got them back with the exec deal

I got mine instore for £79.99 with £30 back as trade in for an old broken nokia and charger on Data5 tarrif (5Mb data per month only - no calls or sms) at £9.something per month. So basically £50.

The guy in the shop never questioned my choice of data only tarrif. He also trusted me to come back with a mains charger as I took a car one with me.

It also seems they are not concerned about people re-flashing firmware and removing the O2 extended ROM (which makes the phone MUCH faster - I did it today). They will help you get your gprs and wap settings back after the flash :)

I bought one today - arriving tomorrow. One helluva deal! 49 quid for any tarriff - I went for the 12 month contract on the OnLine tariff £19 a month with 50 cross network minutes, 200 texts and 1Mb of downloads bundled in.

I also bought a 2Gb high speed mini SD from moby memory (http://www.mobymemory.com/proddetail.asp?prod=miniSD%5F2048mb%5FMOBY%5F001) for £87!

Bring 'em on!!!

... I did give the O2 shop a chance to match this deal. The best they could offer was a free phone on a £70 a month tarriff locked in for 6 months... and they were out of stock.

Any chance the original poster can confirm what time they saw the offer??

Has anyone had their phone delivered within the last few days like me? I had mine delivered on 9/1/05. I ordered it on 6/1/05 though. I am hesitating a return as I do need it right now and have not yet emailed them. How exactly should I word it?

Price match? Re-imbursement? Refund? Don't want to sound like an @$$.

EDIT: actually I am going to email them...here goes nothing :o

Personally I am going to phone and speak to a person. Email isnt direct enough IMO. I will simply be stating :

That the price was dropped several hours after ordering and if they do not give it to me for the new price I will use it for 13 days and return it on the 14th. There is a 14 day cool off period. I will then inform them that after I have returned it to them they will have to then sell it on as 2nd hand/refurb and that I will place my order again for one at the lower price.

Under these conditions it would be far easier and more beneficial to them to alter my invoice accordingly and save wasting my time and their time/money. And if that fails, I will simply return it and go to another network operator that looks after the customers they already have rather than a company who just likes to get you as a customer then forget all about you.

If anyone does phone them be sure to make a note of the date/time of the conversation and get the operators name in case you need it for future reference. I have been caught out before simply because I could not provide these details...

I should really get some sleep but I want to get some dialler skins and also been trying to get skype to work. It works but the audio tends to chop up quite a bit (but WiFi speed is a constant 4Mbps :D). I just realized I haven't done the cache tweak...any ideas? PM me

Any chance the original poster can confirm what time they saw the offer??

I rang them 2 nights ago(about half eight) to see if they had any progress on matching my tariff, and whilst on the phone the girl mentioned the phone was currently £49.99 if I ordered through her. I thought it a bit odd at the time, but didn't question it as I wasn't ordering then and presumed she had made a mistake. I then went onto the website to look at the data tariffs and whilst I was there I checked the phones price out of curiosity.

At the time the shop homepage (http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/) was showing it at £79.99, but the XDA mini order page (http://shop.o2.co.uk/shop/o2uk/jsp/handset/ViewHandset.do?menu=y&prodID=consumer:O2:XDAMini:GROUP&ref=jansale_mini_link) was showing it at £49.99.

By the looks of things it still is too, so i'm glad I could help! :)

Hopefully now O2 will get their fingers out their asses and match my tariff! :D

Phoned them up. Operator said there was nothing she could do only a manager could help. I asked to speak to said manager and after a few minutes she came back having spoken to the manager herself and offered £10 off my line rental for 3 months. Unfortunately the system wouldnt let her do that so she went off again, came back and applied a £30 credit to my account.

Result.

Thanks to the OP for saving me £30!

Cheers sizer.... Mine should be delivered today. LUCKILY, my first order was cancelled (i had two orders on one card, so they cancelled them both - a pyg phone for someone else).

So managed to reorder at £49.99

If it goes to nil in the next 14 days, reckon we can get more off?

Ive just noticed that within the last 30 minutes, the O2 website has been updated to remove any reference to the £79.99 price. So £49.99 is now the 'official price' on any tariff!

Interested to hear how you go on with the mini SD card. It's "high speed" not sure how this affects compatability.
Fab price though!

Hi all,

I bought the O2 XDA MINI S on 4th January for £55 from o2's student online shop. Got it and was well chuffed (thats my first PDA ever!)

Anyway, when I saw it went down in price 5 days later i was well p**sed off! I phoned them up and got put speaking to some idiot who could speak English!! Anyway, I asked if I could get a refund for the extra £30, she didn't seem to have a clue and was giving me loadsa rubbish and said "the only thing you can do is cancel your contract".

So i did!

I've now sent it back (begrudgingly!) and I'll buy anther one when I get my refund (at the rate its been dropping it'll be free by then :D ). I've also sent O2's customer services manager a nice letter about the quality of their staff suggesting that people cancel contracts (a bizarre piece of advice for them to offer IMO).

Hi

I posted it back on the 10th January so still early days, its a pain in the arse cause they'll take about 2 weeks probably to refund me.

I had phoned customer services (cause i just wanted to question the price change rather than terminate contract!)

Anyway, if you're after the phone numbers, online customer services is 0870 600 3009.

If you want to cancel your contract the number they give for that is different, it's 0870 600 7102.

Hope that helps,
Phil

xdaer.

The 2Gb SD mini card works well in the phone. File explorer and today plugins all report the correct size, and have no problems accessing it.

I've got a couple of movie AVI's on there and they play in BetaPlayer extremely smoothly - just the occasional lag, but no more than a frame or two - This was a bit of a shock - I'd read that the wizard was too slow to play full frame video, but it works a treat.

The only problem I've had is with the card reader that came with the card. It is very flaky - doesn't work at all with the 2GB SD mini. It did recognize a 1 GB SD card, but then lost the connection midway through a file transfer (and corrupted the file on the SD card) - I'm having to transfer files via the phone USB cable, from Windows Explorer which is a bit slow, but still not too bad - a 4Mb MP3 takes about 10-15 secs.

So sadly I don't know what the max performance of the SD mini card in a decent card reader would be. Hope this helps.

Just tried this - they advised me to take it back to the 02 shop where I bought it within the 14 days, and order a new one online - as the online billing system is different to the O2 UK billing system .... sounds weird, I know - they have different customer services departments too !

Oh well - will be ordering a new one online today, and going back to the shop with this one ! Seems ridiculous, but worth it to save £30 !

Yeah, already been in the shop - they wouldn't match the internet deal either ! To be fair, the tariff that I got from the shop was £3 less per month than the lowest internet tariff - so would be £36 more over the year at the £49.99 deal, so not worth doing an exchange really Just annoying that the price seems to be falling like a rock as soon as I buy one !

Ah well, can't complain, it was still a good deal anyway :)

is it possible to get the phone for £50 with the data 5 tarrif online? or is it £50 in store?

phillegg
14-01-2006, 02:36 AM
Hi Flanders64

Data5 is a tariff that you can only get through the high street, so unless you can convince your o2 store to knock the price from £79.99 to £50 (to match the net price) then you'd have to pay their standard shop price.

On the other hand you can go for the internet price of the £50 and pay £19 per month for their cheapest online tariff.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the numbers, I think I will give up reclaiming my 30 pounds; I would like to follow this up but it's such a damn hassle; I've got a lot of coursework and that's more important than 30 pounds (tough decisions) :?

By the way, I've got an SD card reader on my laptop and

is that an SD to Mini SD adapter that you're referring to?

I need a Mini SD card and a screen protector for this but I don't know what to get. Anyone want to clue me in?

£8.49 including postage

The card reader is made by DataFAB - it has a slot for SD cards, but comes with a SD Mini -> SD adapter. The card reader works intermittently with a normal 1GB SD card, and never with the 2GB SD Mini in the adapter.
