I have an O2 XDAIIi with the latest (non-berry) rom. It might sound strange but I want to be able to use my Motorola V3 as an external phone linked via bluetooth.

I have installed TomTom 5 on the xda IIi which runs great and can receive traffic reports via GPRS if my sim is installed. However, I often drive with the sim card still in my V3.

Is there a way for the xdaIIi to use an external bluetooth phone for GPRS as I assume the normal xda can do? Via BT manager on the xda, I can access the V3 for file transfer etc, but I can't find a way of setting up a GPRS link to the phone.

Thanks

if you have the widcomm stack this is relatively easy....just needs a registry edit. if you're still interested i will post it

Hi

Ok, You must have the Widcomm stack on your device, otherwise this does nothing for you.

After you add the resgistry entries (using a decent reg editor), do some other stuff on your device (so the reg edits are permanent and not in cache - dont use bluetooth in this time) for a few minutes and then do a soft reset.

Then go in to the Bluetooth Manager and press on new. You should have a new entry there that sets up an internet connection through your bluetooth phone

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Widcomm\Connection Wizard\AddIns\Partner with a Cellphone]
"Description"="btrez.dll,29030"
"Dll"="btwizardprofiles.dll,3"
"Icon"="btrez.dll,29087"
"Order"=dword:00000009
"Title"="btrez.dll,29029"

I have tried this with Widcomm stack version 1.0.0.3900 and 1.6.6.00, and it has worked fine. Please install the included CAB file before doing this as it will install teh BT A2DP and Keyboard profiles with v1.6.6.00 files that may be required for the 'Connect to Internet through BT Phone' profile.

(If it does not, then two files on your device need updating which are included on the zip (they go into the \Windows directory) but I do not take any responsibility for any damage caused to your device (probably at worst a hard reset) as a result of using these files as I have not tested them before.)

Once the pairing process and connection has been set up, you then have to go and set up the connection in the connection settings:

General Settings:
Name: Operator Name
Modem: Bluetooth Dialup Modem
Number: *99#
Username:
Password:

Advanced Settings:
Baudrate: 19200
Wait for Dial Tone: Yes
Extra Dial-String Modem Commands: +CGDCONT=1,"IP","Internet"
Cancel if not connected: 60 Seconds

Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow COntrol: Hardware

*99# means it will dial your default GPRS connection on your phone and "Internet" is the name of your GPRS Access point (Currently for vodafone - change as appropriate)

Hopefully you guys will find this useful

The files are here: ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com under the 'Uploads' section in the 'Connect to Internet through BT Phone' folder

I have got an old XDAIIi and was looking so hard to get it to work with my mobile phone but I lacked the bluetooth profile. Your instructions save the day and I jus thought to write and thank you for them.
