View Full Version : A hope of having WM5 on Imate Jam (charcoal) or HTC Charmer
Hello everyone
recently Everex has announced the release of WM5 for their E900 pocket pc to be distributed on cdz. the specs of of the E900 and the XDA II mini are exactly the same they only differ when it comes to the type of the processor.
I hopeit is just a matter of dumping the rom from the E900 and installing it on the XDA II mini.
cheers

Well theres your answer, the fact that the processors are different make it a whole lot harder for that rom to work on the magician. As for your thread title, the charmer already has wm5.
yeah but what i meant was a generic version of WM5 that works on the i-mate jam charcoal for example, i don't think i'll be happy with a ripped copy of the t-mobile version of WM5 on my PDA

You can't just have a generic version of an OS, it is all hardware dependant (which is why there are different OSs for Apple, x86 and x64 systems)
so what you're saying is that until someone takes the time to cook up a WM5 version for an imate jam (charcoal), WM5 will still be a dream for imate jam (charcoal) users?

It's not going to happen I'm afraid..even though the JAM Special Edition has 128MB RAM, all the RAM will only be catered for running programs as WM5.0
uses the Storage to store everything that used to be in the RAM.
HTC or O2 or I-Mate etc. cannot release the WM5.0 for the Magician because of the way they allocate the Storage space. Just look at O2 Atom and Dopod 818 Pro. Each of them advertised their storage space to be 128MB ROM but Atom only has 22MB free for user and Dopod 40MB free for user.
Look at the Magician, out of 64MB, only 7MB storage is available. So based on what has been released so far, there is no way to fit a WM5.0 into the Magician.

After I have established to the girlfriend on MPx200 WM2005 I shall believe in anything you like.

Hmmmmm...
I just saw that there is an upgrade to HP 21xx PDA-s. These have 64MB ROM only.... So??? I think that the problem is not the size of the ROM.
