Hi,
I have done that a number of times in setting my own devices and my friend's ones.
Use the step-by-step here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=28386&highlight=complete+tomtom
I can't remember the exact cause, but I go back to this thread and work it from there on.
HiH,

Did you do the reg edit and the GPS control panel part?
And are all the same files on the miniSD card? My initial thought is that it's something to do with this. Like the whole damn lot, even though you can see half of them are not really needed, like the palm ones and licences, text files etc.?
Joe
I'm kicking myself as I only had this two weeks ago on a universal....

Yep everthing on the SD card is the same.
I had the old rom and TT5 worked a treat without the GPS reg hack
I hard resetted my phone updated the rom
Paired the GPS reciever the same as i did before ran the TT 5.21 same as before and nothing Ahhhhhh !!!!
E mailed tomtom support and got the reply
" If you are using the 5.21 upgrade for WM5 then tomtom should install and work this may be a hardware issue"
No sh!t sherlock !!!!

Now the plot thickens
Here's what's been done so far
1 hard reset
2 mini sd card cleared TT 5 map re installed this has been tried in a wizard with the old rom and it works so it's not a card or map issue.
3 no apps installed in the phone
4 TT 5 installed on the phone
5 GPS reciever paired with phone
Start TT5 which starts up
Select which country (English UK) ok
Select left or right handed ok
Select miles or kilometers ok
Select clock format. Slight hang but ok
Select which voice that's it the program just hangs and goes no further
Joe it really bugging the shit of me as well

Ok, I had this bit on the Wizard Friday evening!!
What it was I think, was I had copied over the map files (the big cline etc.) and checked the currentmap.dat file's path in
\My Documents\tomtom
The bugger still didn't run. So, I went back to my original SD card, copied it all over (all the dross in the map folder I thought I didn't need) and this time it ran. It was something in the map folder on the card.

PS Sent u a PM

im sure it'll be the same problem, i figured out that for some reason since i have file syncronization on my Activesync, my computer likes to delete the currentmap.dat, just turn the file sync off and voila currentmap remains and tomtom works

then i recommend only copying the voices you use ot the phone and save on memory.
joe
thanks guys you helped me fix the lockup problem as well :-) one question, where do you put the voice files by default? I dont have cab files for voices, only the raw data files...
FOZZER
29-01-2006, 06:10 PM
if you have got the TT5 disk you can copy the voice cab files directly from there to your phone/sd card and then install them If not i can post or PM you the cab files

you should put the data##.vif and .chk in the following directory:
"my mobile device\tomtom\tomtom\data##.***" just make sure you got the right data ;)
Then I've got a question for my own:
I have done everything as posted before and my current map works just fine. BUT I have also installed other maps on my storage card. Problem is my TT only detects Benelux map and not major roads etc. Anyone any idea what I've done wrong?

Does anyone have an answer on how the phone can be off and bluetooth can be on for TomTom. My only way is to turn flightmode off and then on again without typing in my pin for the simcard.
Thansk FOZZER and Dennis,
I put the voice data files in a folder called voices in the root of main memory and they worked :-)

van_mierlo, thanks for your question!!
That's right, thanks for a question, not an answer. Because TomTom kept giving a "no gps device found" until i put a sim card in my phone.
Tried **everything** with cracks, hacks, un-simlock, un-romlock, etc. But all it was was a missing sim card and a misleading error message from tomtom....
(i'm sorry i can't answer your question though..)
