Unfortunately Saman stated earlier in the thread that he didnt see a reason to do this. Its a shame too because I hear time and time ago in various conversations the need for a quick contact button as well as a quick launch button. And this program works flawlessly for both, and with such a small footprint. Saman please reconsider!!! Freakin' great app otherwise.

Just a simple "new appointment" in the parameters and it worked.I was trying all sorts of things based around what Developer One sent me.Thanks again.

The 750v is great I'm really enjoying it a lot. I actually don't miss wifi all that much. I'm loving the fact that it has always accessible front facing QWERTY keys and no moving parts. AFAIK it's available in Australia already not sure which carrier though. I got a parallel imported unit from the UK.

hopefully someone can help, i have a treo 700wx and when i setup this program i was able to rename the left button but when i clicked on it from the today screen it listed new on first line and messaging on second line, so to use it i had to hihglight new and click on it (stylist didnt work) and then it opens the new menu. not very useful that way and i also do not get any option for settings on the new menu so the only way i know to set it up is during install.

You can place it on any hardware key that you want, are you using a softkey remap app? if so, select new menu in there also, if you're having problems.
And i think you need to soft reset after remapping the soft key. At least that's how it works on my wizard.

I think this is what the others mean [see image] I think this occurs because palm customized the softkeys. anyway it's a minor thing IMO since new menu still works it just has an extra step to it. Also a work around is mapping Newmenu to the start menu or any other hardware button that can be remapped.

I can use new menu just fine [stylus or dpad] to the others be sure you do a soft reset as the app advices after setting it for the 1st time.

I have upgraded to PI 2007 Rev 2 build 731, before upgrade, PI item in WM5 newmenu works fine(using PI_WM5newmenu), but now it doesn't work... there is no respond on PI item (incl. appointment/ task/ contact)

Then, I try to use back the normal appointment/task/contact items in WM5newmenu, it works again, which means can directly pop up the new PI appointment/task/contact input screen.....however, after input was done, it still stay in PI agenda view. Before upgrade PI, using PI_WM5newmenu can goto Today screen after created new appointment.

Can anyone help to solve this problem, thanks:)

Sometimes while i am trying to add some shortcuts (to be more specific, i was trying to add a folder shortcut), the tool crashes - all the entries (item, submenu, everything) are gone, simply gone. Right now i am using the settings backup option which proved out to be extremely helpful. But everytime the tool crashes, i have to reinstall it to make it work.

I also understand that currently the tool only supports exe's & lnk's. Could you also add option for creating shortcuts of folders so that we can simply open folders like "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" using this command line tool?

It actually support any file type, I linked to some txt file and pwi files, all works fine. Never try folder before, by the way, why do you want to link to folder? Won't the total commander/ resco explore / file explorer goes to /my documents directly once you launch them?

I read that some people are looking for the control panel shortcuts. These can be used with Saman's tool as well as any other similar tools & explorers. Saman also provided a tool (CPLExplorer) but that can be used for WM5NewMenu only. I hope you guys find the attachment useful. All the shortcuts work fine with my iPAQ rw6828.

Hi, can you describe what exactly, step by step, did you do?
(e.g. tap 'New', select 'Item', write blabla to the File field, tap 'Ok'). But, crushing with the lost of configuration is very wierd..

To select any file type just change the filter on File browsing dialog..

WM5newmenu has to be on top 3 list of killer apps for WM.

I have been tinkering around with it for a couple days and cannot imagine using my WM device w/o it!!! It is like a speed dial for anything you want.

This with alarmPal and my device is almost perfect. Now if I could just afford a TyTn. My wizard is a little slow.

well, just look into hexes, to make 10000000 instances...

Yes, you can have several instance if you hack binary code to change main registry key and the window class name..
As i still see no reason for implementing multiple configurations, this is the only way. I cannot prohibit that, but i will give no support..

Just one post to put another good feedback on your tool...

With my Prophet (S200, XDA mini, SPV m600), i have learned to use other thing than only digitalizer and stylus...

But i was missing a multi-launcher app not to get out the stylus only to launch a RSS reader or Media player...

I'm VERY pleased with WM5newMenu... because i can launch these apps with only one button, but i can also dial favorite contacts...

This tools is VERY handy, and can be set to fit your needs... This is a must-have !!!

The only "problem" i've seen is that i use SBSH's Ilauncher to remap softkeys... and they don't operate well together... So i've set not to change softkey with your app, and point to WM5NewMenu.exe in Ilauncher... And now, it's perfect !

ok, here's what i have done to have 2 instances, just changed two hexes... it is rather dirty method but heck ,it works...
remember you MUSTN'T go further in code(as making longer names etc)... configurator works for both, as long as you remember which one you are configuring(button assingement).
of course, you need to change name of second(next) instance.

as you can see whole thing is to make more than 1 configurations possible...

i noticed, that these are different versions, but as you can see, whole idea is exactly same.(v left is 2.0.2 named wm5newmenu, and right is 2.0.0 named wm5newmeno)....

i think i didn't forget anything...

Just wanted to know is it possible to link it to directories which could expand by itself. Just like XP style?

Wanted to link it to Start\Programs so that all programs can be accessed without really opening it.

Saman--your app is fantastic, thanks for making it. I have a feature request if you are still working on this project. In the list of items, you already have a separator to add a line between items, can you add an option for "space" that gives a little extra space between each item? I try to use your menu with my finger, and was having a hard time when they were close together, so I added a separator between each item (screenshot attached), but a little extra space might look better.

Even better would be a single option to increase the "height" of all items with text centered vertically--this would doubly benefit as the taller entry would be responsive to my (fat) fingers. Thanks!

jorge_culv: I had written this app to use it with dpad. Now I've rewritten this app for smartphones and it has numbered menu items to provide quick access. So, sorry, i don't consider this worth to do it.

LordDeath: Icons will make it very slow and too much work to implement. Now the slow response is caused by storing configuration in registry. If i will sometime make a new version i will change storage to file, it a several times faster, as you can see from backup/restore.

Great program! One question. With the new versions of HTC ROMS they seem to be using a newer/different SMS/MMS app. whereas when I setup a new SMS to... in WM5NewMenu it opens up a page to choose an account. Anyway to bypass that and go straight to the message like before?

For some reason it won't let me create a new email.

This is what I have:

under File:
\Windows\tmail.exe

Under Parameters:
-transport "gmail" -to "email@test.com"

gmail.com is the name of the account I gave it.

But for some reason it won't open up a new email message.

Now, if I replcae "gmail" with "ActiveSync" everything works like I should, problem is I don't use that email account.

A few posts back it said somewhere the account names are stored in the registry somewhere, does anyone know where that is?

BTW I'm running WM6 on my HTC Apache (PPC 6700)

Unfortunately the information about storing messaging accounts in the registry was wrong. They are not there.
You wrote that you gave the name to the account gmail.com. So, have you tried this name, instead of gmail only?

No, this will not change the messaging application.
It will allow you a "New menu" from the today screen and there you can add a "New sms" item.
So you can say "New" like in WM 2003! :)

Hello,

I installed the software this afternoon. Unfortunately I'm not able to get it to function properly. I created a menu called "TXT/Email" that has two functions in it, "TXT" and "Email". For some reason, the left soft key still says "Messaging" and within that it has "Messaging" and then "TXT/Email". I don't know how to get it to override the left soft button so I don't have to go through several menu steps.

I've tried downloading the softkey software, and even edit the registry, but I'm having no lucky. Sometimes there isn't even a 112 & 113 in the registry. If I delete them (if I can), it adds them back.

Please help. Much appreciated.
