Hi All!
I'm newbie here. Please, don't beat me for my question :).
I've got Qtek 9100, and now want to play with ROM. BUT! I read a lot of here, and haven't found the Full ROM Backup programm. Is it possible? Or, the only way to backup my original ROM partly, using aWizard?

The aWizard tools do Backup all of the rom except bootloader.
BUT: The ExtROM is backuped in single files which is a problem when you want to insert the ExtROM back into the Wizard: because with the newer ROMs (1.6.x) the ExtROM can only be made visible (and stays read-only).

... i can't upload my ROM to SD Card, after entering r2sd all i got:
Cmd>r2sd all

You didn't get the proper security level to download a specific image
Sorry, it was a bug in my command file, so CID-unlocking was failed.
Now everything works fine. Please, re-download the tool (click my signature).

I tried using your backup for my ROM, because I was going to upgrade. I'm definitely a newbie at ROM upgrading and backing up...

After running the backup utility, my Qtek won't see my mini-sd card anymore. Do you know how I can make it see my card again? Did the process reformat my card or is there another problem?

the data backup in your mini-sd-card is not FAT compliant. but it's OK for restoring using Qtek's rom-flash procedure.
in another way, you can use tools like WinHex to view,edit or save your mini-SD to a PC as a raw binary file.

If you have already saved your ROM image to PC (myrom.bin file), you can format SD card, and use it as always.

Um, I have a noobie question as well...

Will a full ROM backup take a backup up of everything installed after being shipped from the manufacturer, i.e. programs, reg settings etc., or will it only backup the basic ROM and extended ROM, i.e. what you're left with when you hard reset your device?

Does your program backup the whole ROM (ie OS + Extended) or just the OS??

Is there a way to backup the OS only so that I can backup the latest Qtek OS part only. Reload my T-mobile extended ROM then restore the Qtek OS only ROM, giving me the latest OS with my T-mobile customisation??

It backups Full ROM = OS+ExR+Radio+SPL/IPL+Splash..
Use aWizard to backup your ROM partly.

I needed Button's program before I updated to 2.8.7. I have a cingular 8125 I upgraded to 2.8.7 it overwrote my extended ROM, when I flashed everything back from awizard I relaized my extended ROM was not restored, so I flashed to 1.5.4 so I could access the extended ROM, but it downgraded my IPL and SPL to 1.?? from 2.??. So once I restored my extended ROM in 1.5.4 I upgraded just the OS to 1.8.11 from my original backup, and now when I do a hardreset it locks up during extended ROM installation. Unless I can find a way to edit the extended ROM on 2.8.7 I wont be able to restore my unit to original specs. Unless someone uses Buttons program on a Cingular 8125 and uploads it somewhere for me. I am gonna return this unit to frys and purchase it at the cingular store for a bit cheaper price. So I was hoping to restore it to orignal specs so the next helpless frys customer dosent get stuck wth a funky unit. Thanks all!

would this method allow me to replace my 8125 to its original state including the bootloader flash screen ? i am needing to put my 8125 to its original state prior to returning.

I have a new 8125 that i could take a backup of and want to load it onto the one that i am returning. would this work ? thank you

It can backup only 'clear' ROM, without programms that you have installed manually.

I was able to FULLY RESTORE my Cingular 8125 to its OEM Spec including the first boot splash screen !!!!!!!!!

I spoke too soon.

Here's what happens...

After 8125 has been booted up, on the screen it says, "Data Crashes. Please contact your service Provider". And if you see on the top left corner, it says SIM LOCK. It will not let me reload the image again from the SD card from the bootloader. When I press the Voice Dial, it says, No Update Allow!.

I've tried to run the aWizard and Lokitz tool to unlock again but to no avail.

Have you seen thsi before ?

First, try to flash an old rom (from bootloader mode), - run any ruu. Then, unlock SIM and CID, if it is need. And then use SD card to restore your original rom.

When I try to run any RUU from the Bootloader, I get a Invalid Vendor ID.

DO you know if this would void any warranty from Cingular ?

It seems, you didn't unlock CID in the very beginning..
You should run original RUU now.

Hi Button,

I used your App to copy the Rom from my Wizard and looks fine.

When I try to reinstall the orginal ROM using your app, it started the progress, installed SPL 1.1, rebooted my Wizard but my Wizard is no longer recognized by Activesync to complete the process!

As I have the "myrom.bin" file, how could i restore this from my SD card? Can i use your program or do I need soemthign else?

I have another problem now. I Hard Reset my phone hoping that it will put everything back to normal, but I still have

IPL 1.01
SPL 1.01

The Phone component doesnt work, the battery indicator tells me theres no more left, ActiveSync will no longer recognize the phone and and I cant power off the phone.

Since ActiveSync isnt recognizing the phone, I cant reinstall any Roms. I do have the backup "myrom.bin" file and an SD card. I've tried several times rebooting holding the Camera button. All i get is a 3 color screen that says
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.01

But there is no message or option to restore from SD Card.

Can anyone help me out?

EDIT-Update:

I was finally able to reinstall the QTEK ROM from RUU while in Bootlader. UNfrotuantely, i dont understand what went wrong as I cant reinstall "myrom.bin" if the process disconnects teh Wizard from Activesync.

It all went wrong when I chose YES to installing IPL 1.01. Will it work if I leave the current 2+ version?

You shouldn't downgrade ipl/spl 2.08-2.17 to 1.01.
2.08-2.17 work fine with SD cards.

nothing seems to work for me.

Whent he SIM card is in the phone, i get "Data Crash" message with SIM LOCK indicator on the top left.

But if I remove the SIM card, then no error messages.

I hope Cingular wont tell me that the warranty has been voicded. Would they know ?

Button, thanks for the utility. Others have suggested a terminal connection to the device over USB but I can't find anything after hours of searching.

I have two questions.

When restoring the original ROM Your directions say I "...should install first the BootLoader IPL/SPL 1.01. Do not refuse, when the program will suggest to make it." Does this mean your program has a default bootloader image that it will install automatically?

Also, since I have already done a CID Unlock via aWizard and have a lock_back.bin file, if I needed to restore my original T-Mobile USA Rom would I install your 1.01 bootloader, then use my own lock_back.bin along with the rom backup your program makes?

Ran your utility and now have two files: lock_backup.bin and myrom.bin copied to my hard drive.

Excellent work. I was able to flash to the 2.17 T-Mobile US ROM with extra piece of mind.

mr_skot You should not downgrade IPL/SPL to 1.01 if you have 2.08 - 2.17 (and newer) ROM.
To restore your CID, you should use 'the first' lock_backup.bin (from awizard).

How do I know if the T-Mobile stock ROM backup is done?

I'd like to be 100% sure I've backed up the ROM before I go flashing with the latest, greatest builds (e.g. xelencin's).

The completion bar at the bottom of the MDA screen next to "USB" has completely filled (I guess implying its done copying the image?), and the last line TeraTerm displays is "WriteDataToSDCard() - pusSourceAdd"

There's been no activity for at least 5 minutes on the MDA or the PC. And nothing shows up that says "backup complete" or anything like that.

Can I safely disconnect the USB cable at this time -- is the ROM backed up to the MiniSD now?

I redid the T-Mobile stock ROM backup since I haven't gotten a firm response to my query about what completion of the backup looks like (actually, redid it twice). Both times the results was as below.

You don't actually get any kind of formalized "process is complete" prompt.

Instead, the completion bar next the the "USB" at the bottom of the MDA is full, and on TeraTerm, this is what is looks like:

If I have the Qtek 2.8.x.x Test ROM on my 838 and flash it with the 2.16.x.x ROM will I be able to flash it back to 2.8 or lower with just the RUU? Or is it necessary to flash from SD to go back to an older ROM version?

Does that mean, I dont need to do a backup of my original TMobile (1.3.2.5) ROM when I have the file: RUU_Prodigy_1060201_107_11210_TMO_DE_Ship.exe?

With that file I could always restore it to a provider version of the ROM (I unlocked with Lokiwiz already) after I tried out e.g. the 2.18 QTEK?

I do have the program just don't know how to make the backup file of my minisd card from a card reader. Just want to make sure I do this correctly, because this isn't something I want to screw up.
